Grimes Might Come Off Wish List

February 26th, 2012

Joe might have to remove one guy on his free-agent radar. That would be Brent Grimes, who was a killer for Atlanta against the Bucs in 2010, a Pro Bowl season for him.

While Grimes had knee surgery last year and missed time, including sitting out the Falcons-Giants playoff game, it seems Atlanta is convinced he’s fit and ready. ESPN NFC South blogger Pat Yasinskas explained:

Speaking to a group of reporters at the scouting combine, Dimitroff said serious talks had begun with Grimes’ agents and said the Falcons “aren’t wasting time with our discussions.’’

The Falcons likely will have to pay big money to keep Grimes and they already have a lot tied up in Dunta Robinson, who signed a six-year, $57 million deal in 2010. But Grimes has emerged from an unsung and undersized player to become one of the league’s most athletic cornerbacks.

Grimes is one of those overachiever small-cornerback yet physical types that came out of NFL Europe of all places. He turns 29 this summer.

Looking at the money Yasinskas wrote about above, Joe wonders how Aqib Talib might welcome a mega-paid cornerback from the outside. Joe’s been thinking a lot about Talib of late. It’s a contract year for him and, if he can avoid a Texas penitentiary, lots of guys in contract years have a funny way of turning into choir boys and top performers.

If we can get a starter from any team in our division to upgrade our team, be like Nike and just do it! It will strengthen our Bucs while weakening our opponents at the same time. Spend that salary cap money you have been hoarding for the last several years, Cheapsters. Go Bucs!

Joe is selling used cars today…W/O PlayerFax
after the Bucs draft Trent Richardson “Wasted draft pick #2”
    all else will improve

We have been hoarding $ so we can keep our kicker.

Critical when coming back from 42-0 in 2nd quarter

  4. Garv Says:

Talib is wait and see. Claiborne at five is a better answer than an injured 29 year old IMO. Especially for FA money.

Eric- laughed so hard, dropped the IPhone!
Yup, er got our championship punter last year, if we can scrape together enough nickels to franchise Barth, our dynasty can commence!

Joe- to answer your question about how Taliban will welcome a real CB to the team
    He will
    1) fight him, ala Corey Bryd in year one
    2) hit in the face with his helmet, splitting his face and requiring surgery- AL’s Torrie Cox, year two
    3) punch him in the head, while he’s driving- ala the cabbie, year three
    4) try to jump on top of him in the Tunnel- ala the Ref, season 4
    5) along with his mother, take turns shooting at him, as ge runs thru a suburban neighborhood- ala his brother in law, year 5

    What he won’t do
    1) he won’t tackle him- that’s for damn sure
    2) he won’t play for him. He’ll quit, and sorta just walk around the field
    3) he won’t stop him from catching long TD passes. But he will intercept one pass, for every 4 TDs he let’s him catch.

    That about answers that

NO THANKS to Grimes. Falcons fans don’t even like him, at least not as a starter. Just cause he made a couple plays against our WRs (who give away their routes) doesn’t mean he’s a quality corner.

  9. Snook Says:

Don’t see this guy deserving big time cash. Let the Falcons overpay him just like they did with Dunta. The Falcons’ window is closing anyways.

  10. MTM Says:

Sorry but the Bucs don’t need to acquire either the Grimes dwarf or the Finnigan dwarf. The D already gets smoked with average height receivers.

  11. ATLBuc Says:

I hope the Falcons signe him back for big money. That would allow the Bucs to steal Lofton and move Foster outside.

  12. Capt.Tim Says:

Yeah, dont aquire either of two Pro bowlers. Both of who are listed in the top 15 list of top corners by NFL experts and Anaylist.

Let’s keep ours- none of whom are listed in the top 60. Other than Barber- none of which have ever gotten a single ProBowl vote from any NFL player- including their own teammates!

Yeah, we’re good. After that great defense we unleashed last year- why improve?
