Final Week For Initial Coaching Interviews

January 17th, 2012

When Bucs team co-chairman Joel Glazer spoke at the announcement that he had jettisoned Raheem Morris, he strongly suggested he would cast a wide net in his quest to fill the opening.

Now in the third week of a coaching search, NFL.com’s Jason La Canfora reports this will be the final week of first-time interviews for Team Glazer and Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik, so La Canfora Twittered.

@JasonLaCanfora: Bucs plan to end 1st round of interviews by weekend, then conduct 2nd interviews w/ finalists next week.

If La Canfora’s timetable is accurate, that means that it wouldn’t be a shock for the Bucs have a new head coach by the Super Bowl, quite likely during Super Bowl week.

UPDATE: This afternoon on the NFL Network, La Canfora stated the Bucs braintrust will meet over the weekend to “pare down” the list of candidates to a list of finalists and begin scheduling follow-up interviews.

I would love them to interview Billick as well, but he’s a guy who can also come in as an OC instead of HC.

I really think Spags or Del Rio are the top two DC’s available and hope we can land one of them.

This could have been made into a reality show.

one word for you …….. Marty

  5. Meh Says:

Marty, Chud, Zimmer, or Gray please. The others are not very appealing to me. Please not Chilly under any circumstances.

[Thomas, you are better than this. Have you lost your fastball since Raheem was jettisoned? — Joe]

  7. knucknbuc Says:

Lol @Freemanbomb same thing I was thinking.

2nd interview candidates (In no particular order): Marty, Zimmer, Chud, Gray, Philbin.

Don’t let the door hit you in the a** candidates: Sherman, Childress,

  8. kh Says:

I thought La Canfora was saying that Sherman was the next HC…. /rollseyes

  9. MTM Says:

Just goes to show how bad this HC job is viewed. Nobody seems that interested locally or nationally in the media as well. And Joe you have some of the best pictures of the Glazers. The always look like tools or idiots. When is Billick going to get a 1st interview?

  10. Big Picture Guy Says:

So I guess this means no Perry Fewell????

  11. chargedcbh Says:

Since I live up here in the DC area, from what I’ve heard locally. Billick comes off as a”know it all” He tends to talk down to people if your not on the same level as him when it comes to football IQ. Again, this is what has been said in the media here, so take it for what it’s worth. I don’t think he has interviewed for any of the current openings in the league.

  12. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Colts are now looking for a new Head Coach.

  13. BucFan20 Says:

In an interview on local tv. Brooks who is looking at players for the Storm at the East West Shrine Game said if the Glazers ,knowing how the Glazers operate, the names we hear are not the coach they want or the one that will be hired. So if that is true, there may have been interviews we don’t even know about.

  14. A REAL Bucs Fan Says:

The were waiting for Clements or Philbin. Our next Head Coach will be one of those guys.

Think about it…when they said they were wanting to build through the draft, which team did they most compare themselves to?

    The Green Bay Packers.

Philbin is kind of a Dungy Type…Clements is a QB developer…I’ll take either one.

  15. eric Says:

If that guy is right it will be the first time so far.

Ive already had to back myself off the skyway twice for his previous “inside” information which he really pulls out of his rear end.

    Fool me once……

  16. BucBuckeye Says:

I’m with BigPictureGuy – shame if this report is true – would love to have seen Perry Fewell get an interview. I just see the guy’s units perform, no matter where he goes!

The only time LaCantinformya is right is when he tweets info out 5 minutes after Adam Scheffter.

Come on Joe, a little light humor on a Tuesday. whoever selected that Glazer picture was begging for some humor.

If you can offend common-sense by incessantly calling Dom a rockstar – certainly we can have a little fun at his expense. My comment was just a little edgier than Eric’s watering the Glazer’s lawn comment.

Also, you stick to this nonsensical line about a “void” left by Raheem – the only void he left is the one that causes a “professional” football team to be down 42-0 in a quarter and a half. Yes, that was the head coach you asked for and defended.

To takes this position that Dom only gets 15% of the blame for this (when many former players blast Dom for being incompetent or worse) is what causes us to question your motives.

    Joe here,

@Thomas 2.2 — Get real. This is JOe’s site. That’s the difference. If Joe doesn’t want his comment section spiraling into sex jokes, then surely you can get that concept.

  20. Big Marlon B Says:

Joe doesn’t want the comment section spiraling into (hilarious) sex jokes, yet the main page can contain a joke about STDs spreading through frat houses?

to quote u Joe “come on, you’re better than that” 😉

  21. Big Marlon B Says:

just breaking balls btw. i respect the hard work u put into the site, i’m just trying to have some light hearted fun here. it’s not very often i actually appreciate a post by Thomas lol

  22. CC Says:

Hey Thomas did you mean Dom the c**kstar was cropped out of that pic?
