The “Q” Word Surfaces In Charlotte

December 25th, 2011

Last week, Deion Sanders and Marshall Faulk publicly shamed the Bucs with claims that the team quit on national television.

Now it’s longtime Charlotte Observer columnist Tom Sorensen’s turn to call the Bucs quitters, as he did in a medley of postgame nuggets.

Tampa Bay quit.

Not every player. But too many not to notice. Despite winning only two games, I did not think the Panthers quit on John Fox last season. They couldn’t score, true. Yet Fox retained respect until the end, especially from the defense.

Sadly, how can anyone argue against the Bucs effectively quitting on Raheem Morris and this season? Sure, there are Bucs going hard. Some, like Kregg Lumpkin, even played pretty well. But as a whole the team has mailed it in en route to four consecutive blowout losses.

Considering every sober fan is expecting a pasting by the Falcons next week — and a majority expected yesterday’s result — this is finally rock bottom for the Bucs.

    Merry Christmas

  2. FIRE RAH! Says:

    merry christmas everyone.

  3. Bucnjim Says:

You can’t get blown out week after week without quiting! What other team in the NFL right now even compare to the disaster that is taking place here in Tampa. Even the Colts haven’t quit!

  5. Macabee Says:

The “Q” word is an overused catchall when one can’t reasonably explain why a team that should be playing better is not. It’s Xmas time, stick a fork in it, this year is done!

  6. Captain Stagger Says:

The sad thing is that bucs message boards and blogs are such a source of entertainment, but there has been nothing new to write about for a month. Go 0-16 and show signs of life, keep it close and we can dream and have hope. I hand it to you Joe, there are only so many ways you can say “we suck in every aspect of an organization” and still keep people coming to the site. Although I do believe most of us stick around hoping to hear a story about the entire FO, coaching staff, and ownership being replaced.

The team quit caring, owners don’t seem to care, now I don’t think I care….

  7. SteveK Says:

New coach, ne GM, new players, and most importantly, new owners.

    That’s what the Yucks need.

  8. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Morris now has losing streaks of 5, 7 and 9 games to his credit in only 3 seasons. Plus half his players are quitters with no character or integrity whatsoever. That says everything I need to know.

Blow it up. That’s the only answer. And I’m of half a mind to add Dominik and his sorry ass free agency record to the list, too. Time to end this horrid experiment.

As Deion Sanders would say, this is a shebacle.

  9. Patrick Says:

Tell me now, why do ya’ll love Cowher to death? You realize if he comes here, we’ll have to change defensive schemes and scrap our entire defense?!?! It’ll take years for us to get it going?

  10. B.D Says:

Patrick, you think they could play worse??

  11. BucfaninMI Says:

@ jrock ATL will supply the tombstone.

  12. Ranman Says:

Patrick, scrap our defenseWhat have you seen the past three months that is worth keeping?

    Merry Christmas, all.

  13. BucfaninMI Says:

Why does everyone think it’ll take years. NO. ATL, and SF. Turned things around quickly! A FA on every level of the D, D-line LBs and DBs, the right HC DC and OC a vet WR a vet OL. Of course that would mean spending money. I’m not saying SB, but they can be competitive right away. I also believe that going 10-6 last year didn’t help these young players,I think they thought by showing up they would win, too cocky! Too young! Same w/ the coach!

  14. Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

Relax everyone, from what I am told, Raheem is gone after this season, and Mark Dominik will be “neutralized” until he can’t harm us anymore then he already has.
Atlanta does not have a Cam Newton, so the blow out will not be as bad, but we will surely lose, and improve our draft spot.
One HOPES we get a better director of player personnel as well.
HOW we missed out on Jason Pierre Paul who was right under our nose, and drafter a punter who could not kick is beyond belief.

LOL, Raheem is running tackling drills, basic stuff that NFL Level Players are supposed to already have.
It is pretty obvious by our record a poor job was done overall by our talent evaluators.

As far as quitting goes, we played very hard, for awhile. But our lack of overall Talent caused us to get dominated, and beat down into submission.

I saw this lack of talent in the New England Pre Season game right away, but was told “It’s only Pre Season” by some of those drunk on the Mark Dominik Kool Aid.

Tampa is beyond terrible, the only games we have won have been close, and we have been non competitive in the others.

  15. RastaMon Says:

” this is finally rock bottom for the Bucs”….
    stay tuned folks …
    the vomiting is not over……

  16. Mike Says:

The defense is about the worst I’ve ever seen, and at this point it’s certainly worth scrapping.

  17. eric Says:

if atlanta loses monday they could pull their starters for bucs.

  18. Thomas 2.2 Says:

Rock bottom isnt reached until the announcement the rahck tied around our throats is released.

Lets start tackling drills week 17. LMAO

  19. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Hey Joe…your “rock star” Mark Dominik is about to become a one-hit wonder. How ya like them apples, eh?

  20. Thomas 2.2 Says:

Must agree Joe. Rock star was the worst and least applicable nickname I have ever heard.

Kind of like calling Rah: “slow talking head coach” or “competent head coach” for that matter.

  21. Dan Says:

rockstar had to do with tv apearances not quality or skill if you remember from Joe’s explanations

  22. SteveK Says:

No doubt, bc the “Rockstar” is at Wayne cherebet, “flashlight” status.

  23. Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

This is true, Joe called Mark Dominik a Rockstar because of all the TV appearances, surely not because of his skill in building a competitive Football Team.
However, the Teflon Coated Mark Dominik has been anywhere BUT in the press, or TV either, for that matter.
The “Rockstar” has hid, and will let Raheem take all the blame for the losing team he assembled as he goes into survival mode.
He must be a pretty good brown noser though ? He has survived somehow in Tampa for a long time, despite the fact 3 different bosses failed to take him to other NFL Teams with them.

I feel sorry that the Glazers were conned by him, and his grandiose plans to rebuild ONLY through the draft, despite the fact he has no proven track record of building anything, except a Teflon Coating around his sorry arse.

Slowly but surely, as more and more people realize how Mark Dominik has failed us, the Teflon Coating is coming off.

  24. FLBoyInDallas Says:

The Teflon Dom. All he’s missing is some hair gel and a leather jacket.

  25. Niko (The Optimist) Says:

I can only speak for myself, but people I KNOW are Bucs fans for decades going back to the early 80s or ’79 like myself all agree, this is the worst its ever been. There is not even hope. There is no doubt we are now the worst team in football. The Bucs have quit, and thats a shame. I want massive change now.

When people like myself and Paul Stewart don’t even finish watching the game, that is BAD! Imagine how many other fans are tuning the Bucs out? Glazers take notice, don’t worry about season tickets, if no one is even watching the game, thats trouble. Spend some $$$ march 1st

  26. Bucnjim Says:

I continued watching only to see if the Panther’s would put up 50 plus or slam on the brakes. Remember the days when these two teams would knock the hell out of each other. There used to be a lot of hate and now the Panther’s love the Bucs. We made there holiday weekend!
