A couple of former Bucs receivers will get to extend their disappointing careers: Maurice Stovall and blocking icon Michael Clayton.
Stovall signed with the Lions, per the Detroit newspapers, and Clayton is back with the New York Giants, so says the NFL Network ticker.
Joe still can’t forgive Stovall for the worst special teams non-tackle in modern history that led to the Bucs stunning home collapse against Atlanta in December.
As for the blocking icon, Joe fully expects him to light up the preseason at the Meadowlands.

I saw Gilmore signed too. We are so weak at TE.

I wish both the best. Stovall is average and a good special teams player who had one MAJOR lapse. Clayton is a great guy who had a bad deal with Gruden and injuries. I truly beleive his career could have been better had he stayed healthy and had a different coach. That said, the drops started ading up and then became psychological, in my opinion.

They have K2 and Stocker… assuming he can get healthy. Then the 7th rounder is fighing for the 3rd spot with…. I forget who. I wouldn’t call it weak, just VERY lacking in depth.

So far Stocker, a rookie, has practiced with the team one day. Very very weak if he is your 2nd best TE on the team.

Patrick is right. Just like it was Kings fault when he lost the starting job. Both of them got lazy in the off season following their rookie season. Both paid the price.

detroit signing stovall just smells like “give us every bit of info you have on the bucs offense so we can have an advantage over them for opening day”…. then they’ll probably release him b4 that game is even played.

I wonder why everyone who gets cut by the Bucs ends up in Detroit. Brian Kelly, Dwight Smith, Philip Buchanon, and now Stovall.

I heard Stovall broke his arm getting off the plane in Detroit.
I wish Clayton all the best, especially after he helped Freeman organize his OTA’s. I think Clayton is still pretty tight with Buc players.

Clayton is a good guy and I wish him well but he has no one to blame but himself for his work ethic/partying issues. Stovall is an excellent special teamer and is still only 26. I think he’ll have a long career but our newer WR additions can play ST and actually have promise as offensive players, so it makes sense that we let him go.
I was in favor of bringing back Gilmore. Good things happened when he was on the field and he surprised as an effective pass catcher in his limited role. I’m a big Stocker fan but even if he’s healthy all year we don’t have a reliable guy behind him on the depth chart. Hardy is a 7th round rookie and Overbay and Purvis are just bodies.

Do you watch preseason games? It’s always annoyed me that you’ve run with this Clayton-puts-up-numbers-in-the-preseason meme for years. He never did. You are getting his training camp and offseason reports confused with actual numbers, of which, he never put up. Unless you count a career high 30 yards and no TD’s as his best preseason game since 2006 great numbers.

Same here, I wish we would’ve brought Gilmore. Somewhere I read, he was a very big leader on the team.

I believe the Bucs still have Demar Dotson, basketball player, and played a little TE before his injury. I think Gilmore is still around and can be re-signed if needed. I agree that Gilmore did a great job last season and contributed to a few of their wins with key catches at clutch times.
