“Unemployed” Gerald McCoy Talks Rehab

May 24th, 2011

Like most NFL fans, Gerald McCoy is frustrated that NFL hatchetman Roger Goodell has overseen the longest labor stoppage in league history and seemingly has done little to bring his employers to their senses and stop this asinine lockout.

As a result, GMC calls himself “unemployed.” But if one is to listen closely to what GMC has to say in this video, GMC likely wouldn’t be ready to go for OTAs as he is still rehabbing his injured arm.

In fact, GMC discusses with “Oklahoma Now” how his rehab is going. Shockingly, he said the longer the lockout lasts, the better it will be for his recovery. Hhhmmm?

Though Joe is confident the Bucs got players lists of approved medical facilities to use during the lockout, Joe can’t help but wonder if GMC would be at full-strength if he was using Bucs medical personnel.

    @Joe

“Like most NFL fans, Gerald McCoy is frustrated that NFL hatchetman Roger Goodell has overseen the longest labor stoppage in league history and seemingly has done little to bring his employers to their senses and stop this asinine lockout.”

Not by any means calling Joe a liar, which we all know is the magic button launching pad. But even Joe has to admit the above statement is fabricated truth due to the fact that NO where in any of the linked video does GMC even mention Goodell or longest work stoppage ever. Once again Joe has entered his personal thoughts and feelings into somebody else’s so called beliefs.

Yes, GMC does mention that the lockout is giving his injury more time to heal. But where does the rest of this come from? It is a replication of Joe’s exact thoughts of Goodell when I posed the question to you yesterday. By using GMC today does Joe believe this lends more credence to his own thought? I would not be stretching too far to say that GMC’s response to Joe would be to not put words in his mouth.

    I love this guy!

  3. Atrain WD40 Says:

Gruss222: I love it man, Joes irrational hatred for a man doing what the owners order him to do is tired, very tired! I wish Joe would give us the news with a little less slant. P.S. Freeman’s team workouts and leadership are all over the Bspn nfl headlines why not here?

  4. Joe Says:

    gruss222:

Joe’s confident GMC sent flowers to Goodell because he is fronting a group trying to destroy the NFL.

  5. Matt Says:

JoeBucsFan is not the place to come to if you want unbiased coverage.

Which is fine. It’s part of what gives this place it’s charm.

  6. Joe Says:

    Atrain WD40:

Joe apologizes if he is upset if not angry that the very game he grew up loving and idolizing is being torn apart before his eyes.

  7. Atrain WD40 Says:

Not saying we/I want unbiased reporting just not repetitive mind numbing dribble. Goodell is the current target of Joes affection, We got it already.

This is what were talking about instead of Freemans been running drills with teammates since march! how did this get missed?

  8. BamBamBuc Says:

I hope GMC sent flowers to De Smith as well, and maybe a note saying “Hey, can we maybe submit a counter offer??? We’d like this lockout thing to end”.

Oh yeah, it’s not the players representative that’s forced this lockout with a decertification of the union and no significant negotiations. It’s the “Hatchetman”….. ooh, almost sounds scary, doesn’t it?

Matt: I understand the coverage here is biased, and have no problem with that, but when that biased coverage is challenged and the challenge is threatened with the “magic button” is when it goes from charming to redundant and uninteresting. Think it’s time to switch to BucsNation….

  9. Joe Says:

Not saying we/I want unbiased reporting just not repetitive mind numbing dribble. Goodell is the current target of Joes affection, We got it already.

Become accustomed to it. Joe’s not going to let up on Goodell. Joe doesn’t believe in being quiet when he sees a wrong. Sorry.

  10. Joe Says:

    BamBamBuc:

The “magic button” gets used when readers claim Joe is lying and twisting facts, which is exactly what Pete did twice yesterday.

Again, people can disagree with Joe all day long. Happens all the time. Joe welcomes it. But when people claim Joe’s lying or twisting facts, well, that’s a far different story.

(And for the Goodell acolytes, if it irritates you that Joe is PO’ed at Goodell, well, sorry. Joe’s not going to let up. Just so you know.)

  11. Atrain WD40 Says:

“Become accustomed to it. Joe’s not going to let up on Goodell. Joe doesn’t believe in being quiet when he sees a wrong. Sorry.”

If the league comes out of this with a 6-7 year CBA that Keeps the game going in the right direction that makes what the OWNERS and to a lesser extent Goodell did the right thing and makes, Gasp…. JOE WRONG!

Will you be ready to admit it, I wonder but I doubt it!

  12. Capt.Tim Says:

McCoy rocks! I think he’s right. The longer the lockout, the better Price,Benn,Grimm,Joseph, and McCoy will be. Also to the benefit of Bowers!!

I have heard that they are just going to push everything back- preseason thru SuperBowl, once it’s settled. Unless it goes on for a crazy length of time. Mist say by August. Will requiresome rescheduling, and may create some conflicts, but will all get worked out

  13. Atrain WD40 Says:

“Again, people can disagree with Joe all day long. Happens all the time. Joe welcomes it. But when people claim Joe’s lying or twisting facts, well, that’s a far different story.”

Sometines facts can interpreted differently by two seperate parties, Shouldnt it be the readers who decide whos right”

Great as if player behavior wasnt bad enough… Why doesnt the Players Union, I know they disbanded.. Wink, Wink, Run theyre own symposium?

How anyone in their right mind can stick up for Goodell/owners is beyound me.

    THEY CHEATED THE PLAYERS AHOLES!

  16. Atrain WD40 Says:

Good job Chris with the 5th grade namecalling!

I’m still waiting to hear from an intelligent source as to exactly how the players were cheated… A special master has already ruled and guess what it was a whopping 9million in damages.

I am totally sure that we are all smarter and more knowledgable about the situation than the special master!

What we as FANS can do:
    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/707743-nfl-lockout-6-ways-to-show-the-nfl-and-the-players-our-disapproval

Owners have been planning this ‘lockout’ or ‘work stoppage’ for the past 3 years or more. When they made the TV deals, without player consent, they essentially put all the chips in their pockets. If this was Monopoly or Poker you can never win and you get ‘bullied’ any time the owners want.

“Mind numbing dribble” …If JoeBucsFan isn’t the least mind numbing place for Bucs news/commentary, I don’t know what is. Keep it coming JOe

  20. Joe Says:

    Thanks Vic! Much appreciated man.

  21. Atrain WD40 Says:

Chris and didnt the 8th circuit appealette court not chastise Judge Susan nelson for her oppinion and Stay her order…. So using her ruling as a reference is a rather one sided affair!

  22. Atrain WD40 Says:

Brilliant stroke using “Dr” Jason Johnson’s oppinion piece as your fact back up. Since it’s his oppinion I guess we should all bow down to it….

  23. Capt.Tim Says:

It’s amazing how trouble some people here have calling a jerk a jerk. Godell and the owners orchestrated this work stoppage. They planned it for three years. The weighted the financial deck in their favor, and refused to negotiated in good faith. Then had set aside millions of dollars that is earmarked to sway public opinion, once games are being lost.

They went into this planning to force a long workstoppage, they want to starve the players, and frustrate the fans into goading the players into a bad deal.

It is Godell’s job to protect the integrity of the game- above the interest of both players and owners. He is supposed to be the unbiased party , with only the welfare of the game as his motive. Like rozelle

  24. Chris FWC :) Says:

This is he latest I have:

The league and players are next scheduled to appear in court on June 3 when the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals is set to hear the NFL’s appeal of Judge Susan Nelson’s ruling to place an injunction on the lockout. The two sides are set to resume mediation on June 7.

  25. Capt.Tim Says:

    Damn it!
    – yet he has instead CLEARLY sided with Management. He doesn’t even pretend impartiality!

That- friends- is a jerk, who has betrayed the intrest of the game. He is also trying to fundamentally change the game into a glorified version of Flag football. Again- betraying his fundamental charge.

Joe is right to call him out. We don’t live in HappyRainbow land. Some people choose to betray the things we trust them with, and deserve to be called out and reproached. The fan is selling out our national sport, like Judas in the garden- let him have it Joe. Both barrels!

  26. Chris FWC :) Says:

Atrain my point was he lists by date, FACT, of what has transpired. Yes, some of its opinion based on FACTS.

  27. Atrain WD40 Says:

Actually the owners believed the deal they had was the bad deal and took steps to correct it. Sounds like good business to me. And saying the owners werent willing to negotiate in good faith is innacurate to say the least, they just did not want to give the same deal that they felt was not workable for them.

Does anyone know how much it took to run a 9 billion dollar business and please remember that that figure is pre-tax and pre-expense. 9 billion is not the profit taken home by the owners.

Annd when your done dividing up the money ask yourselves this…. How much out of their own pockets did the players put back into the league to continue to grow the game? And i dont care anymore about their bodies!
the highest majority live productive balanced lives beyond football.

  28. Chris FWC :) Says:

Atrain, Wow! Now I know what I’m dealing with. I’ll leave you alone and let you sit in the corner with that funny hat on.

“And i dont care anymore about their bodies!
the highest majority live productive balanced lives beyond football.”

    jus…wow!

  29. Atrain WD40 Says:

Hey Chris heads right back into to the 5th grade again…. Awesome!

Fact is you cant handle any oppinion but your own.

  30. BucFan South Tampa Says:

Well, GMAC realizes that the players are the employees of the team/league and not “partners”. I fully respect all of the players, really I do, but they are paid a good salary to do a job, play football. DeMarcus Smith is debating the wrong point.

  31. Bucsnutt Says:

    Well written, Gruss.
I, too, feel that the TEAM owners are getting WAY too much blame for excersizing the opt out of an agreement that was negatively impacting their investments, basically using the tool that was put in place as a “Come on… let’s just do this; if we find it’s not working out, we can opt out of it after a bit and renegotiate it later” but then when the option is taken, they’re the bad guys for trying to take money out of the players pocket.
If the players want to accept financial liability for stadium costs, attendance shortfalls, travel expenses, etc… then maybe their position would hold more credence, but until the TEAM owners can come to the players and say “Guy’s, sorry, but 2012 was a bad year and our value as a team took a hit, we need to reduce all player salaries by x%”, then the position of the players will remain as employees rather than partners.
Players are not “the product”, as they have so egotistically stated. When any player(s) decides to not play football anymore, guess what…. another person will take that player’s place. The players using the “We’re not just the employee, but the product as well” are significantly overstating their individual importance to the NFL as a whole, or even the team they play for. A relatively small percentage of players stand out among their peers, and they are usually handsomely rewarded for their superior skills with large endorsement deals.
As much as I look forward to watching our young Bucs play, and I’m truly excited whenever Josh Freeman tosses a pass to one of our up and coming players like Benn, Williams, K2, or Briscoe, I would be just as excited to watch my BUCS if none of those players were on the team. How many football fans abandoned the NFL when Steve Young, Reggie White, Joe Montana, or Jerry Rice retired?
I, for one, am pulling my hair out waiting for the football season to resume, but I would rather miss a season (or more) of football that to see this type of “Negotiating” tactic displayed by the Union bear any type of fruit.

  32. Chris FWC :) Says:

BucFan, this is much more than jus “play football.” This is about money. Period. And if it’s not just ask the owners. The owners want it so they can always impose their will on the players and , in a nondirect way, the fans.

So saying they get paid good and jus play football is selling short what is actually happening. It’s bigger than that.

If you really thought about it, WE, as citizens, could make our own league and never need owners.

Theres Owners, Players and Fans. Owners are the odd man out of the equation.

  33. Atrain WD40 Says:

Bucsnutt Thank god for you man I was beginning to feel alone out here.

  34. Chris FWC :) Says:

Bucsnutt, “Players are not “the product”, as they have so egotistically stated. When any player(s) decides to not play football anymore, guess what…. another person will take that player’s place. The players using the “We’re not just the employee, but the product as well” are significantly overstating their individual importance to the NFL”

Then who is the product…the owners? TV commercials? Who cares if players get replaced. They are still the “product.” What are you paying for when you watch a Bucs game?

  35. Atrain WD40 Says:

Chris so now this is a conspiracy for the Owners to impose theyre will on the free world. Do you actually believe the crap your spewing. The owners are not even trying to impose their will on the players, they just want to increase longevity of the game and theyre profits at the same time…. Good God!

  36. Atrain WD40 Says:

And Chris for your information the product is the game itself…… No one I repeat no one is bigger than the game. I’m beginning to hope the owners go with replacement players!

  37. TrueBlue Says:

Joe’s endless Goodell bashing is reminiscent of his previous Freeman bashing. It may reflect a misguided opinion, but little more. Expressing an opinion is one thing, but beating it to death is just annoying. That being said, this is still my favorite Buc site, even though I occasionally have to hold my nose.

  38. Atrain WD40 Says:

    I agree TrueBlue!

If, I mean when i get irritated i still always return.

Even if a few of the bloggers IQ’s around here dip into the teens.

  39. McBuc Says:

Yu guys all have a couple of points…I will say that I remember the “replacement” players, and the game did suffer. If they would have moved forward without all the guys that were being replaced the game would have recovered with new talented players. It would hurt for at least one season and as many as three or four. Neither side will benefit from a lost season. But remember, all football is not created equal, otherwise we would all just turn on the Arena or the UFL. The one truth everyone is saying is that it is about money, not the game, player health, or anything else…it is about money on both sides. The owners hold the upper hand, because they are the owners of the teams that make up the league. Unions had a place during the industial rev, but we are a long way away from those days. I do not have enough info to really know who is right or wrong, which I am sure they both share in anyway. There is always three sides to the story, what you said, what I said, and what really happened. It is just bad timing for this stuff while people are struggling.

ATrain brings up some great points, but I still cannot stand the comish.

  40. Atrain WD40 Says:

    Well said McBuc

  41. OAR Says:

I used to dip in my teens, is that the same thing?

  43. OAR Says:

    McBuc
    Nicely said and agree!

  44. BucFan South Tampa Says:

Of course Football is the product and this entire issue is about money. But, if the players dont want to play, then let someone else play. The owners accept all of the financial risk. The players play a dangerous game, no argument. But when some players are irresponsible enough to take dope (suspended), get arrested (suspended), or get hurt off the field (IR), the team (and profit) suffers. The players have zero financial interest in the game of football. They do not have any skin in the game. When they do, and wish to protect their financial interest, then maybe the owners will treat them like partners. Until that time, they are employees collecting a paycheck.

  45. BigMacAttack Says:

When the coaches and GM’s start committing crimes, we’re really in trouble.

And sorry to the big man, GMC, but you rehab without this lockout/litigation mess as easy as you can with it. This situation isn’t helping anyone right now.
