Plaxico Burress Is Not Coming To Tampa Bay

April 2nd, 2011

Sometimes, there’s no substitute for common sense.

Take the case of some Bucs fans. Some read a name and all of a sudden start screaming at their docile black lab trying to nap that Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik should sign the flavor of the day.

Take the case of convicted felon and current jailbird Plaxico Burress. Some Bucs fan had the nerve to suggest to Disney blogger Pat Yasinskas, writing for Bristol Soviets, that Burress, once set free after his sentence ends in June and sprung loose from a New York prison after two years in the hole, should be a prime target of the Bucs when teams are allowed to sign free agents.

Corey (D.C.)
If Plaxico Burress is physically fit enough to handle a full NFL season and contribute, do you think the Bucs would consider him? He seems like he could help the younger guys, and generate sales and attention for the team (which is always good), and probably come fairly cheap. Thought?

Pat Yasinskas
In light of all the recent stuff about character with Tampa Bay, do you really think that’s a good idea?

Joe doesn’t know where to begin with this.

What exactly would he help the younger Bucs with? Would it be how to blow off practice? Or perhaps take off plays? Or would it be the art of carrying a loaded rod into a packed nightclub?

Oh, Joe gets it: Burress could teach the younger Bucs how to stick a pistol in your pocket in such a way so that when the gun discharges, you won’t lose your leg. There’s always a chance Burress could show younger Bucs how he perfected catching passes over midfield, get up without being touched by a defender, and spiking the ball (in the real world, that’s called a fumble).

And just what type of sales would Burress boost? Orange jump suits? Or maybe beer sales at Sweetbay because Bucs fans would have to run for multiple beers to swallow the concept Burress on the Bucs roster.

A guy in his mid-30s that hasn’t played in two years because he’s been sitting in a prison cell is supposed to help the Bucs? Really? In what way, to mow the grass at The CITS?

Say what you will about troubled Aqib Talib, but there’s never been a hint he has ever been a bad teammate (sans a swing of the helmet) or blown off practices or been late to meetings, et al. All sins that Burress has pulled without even factoring in his stunt with a loaded gun.

No, no Burress on the Bucs. It’s not happening.

are you kidding that talib (or t jax) arent bad teammates? talib attacks them, includes them in his drama (cabbie incident), lets them down by getting suspended (like t jax) and now is likely going to be imprisoned.

plaxico would not have the worst track record on this team of cheap players with characcter questions. The glazers and dom are trying to get good players cheaply which means they will have question marks: usually character issues. Which is why / how they got mike williams and blount, among others like talib.

plax is no different thah what this roster and team has become – why not add him? all he did was discharge a firearm accidentally, most of the sheep want to keep talib who discharged his intentionally (what a hero for trying to blame it all on his mom – what a saint).

I would rather have plax and stay consistent with what we have become, than not and try to falsely act like this team is something diffferent.

    Plax not coming to Tampa?

    Good.

  3. Fear The Glo Says:

Plaxico Burress would be invaluable to our young Bucs. He could teach our guys how to make a jailhouse grilled cheese using only bread, cheese, a paperclip and a toilet with toilet paper. Aqib would appreciate it.

  4. DCBUCSFAN Says:

If Plaxico can contribute to the Bucs winning football games, and he is there for the taking, why not bring him on?

Contrary to popular belief, the NFL is comprised of PEOPLE, and in this life we live, people make mistakes, some more serious than others, nevertheless they are mistakes. So, take a moment and look back over your past mistakes, and think about how you would have felt if you were not given another chance.

  5. Jerry Says:

Yet people on this site love Blount. What if he punches someone mid-season? He’s done it twice already.

This isnt a roster of choir boys. And no NFL roster will ever be.

  6. Capt.Tim Says:

Placing could help Aqib with his aim! At last Plaxico shot one loser! Aqib- in a roomfull, didn’t hit any!

  7. Capt.Tim Says:

Jerry- you are really dumb enough to compare sooting at someone, to punching another player who is talking smack in your ear after a game??? Obviously you aren’t police or military. There is a pretty big difference in busting someones lip, or trying to kill them. Probably gets blurred on those manly Xbox games, huh.

  8. Scott Says:

    Jerry:

When you say “twice” I take it you were talking about the infamous college incident and the punch he threw in practice at a fellow member of the Tenn. Titans.

Everyone understands the punch thrown in practice. It probably happens every day in training camp. I doubt there are many players in the NFL that have not taken a poke at a team mate in July or August.

That leaves the one incident in college. Yes he was wrong. That loss of temper has cost him millions of dollars and put a huge black mark on his resume. Since then he has not done anything wrong and has been a great player for the Bucs.

The verbiage ‘he just made one mistake’ is way overused to cover for guys like Vick or Burress. But in this case it is true. Blount had one lapse and is still paying for it. People should get off his back about it, he has earned the right for it to be forgotten.

    OMG

I was going to comment and ask Joe when anyone on this website has been stupid enough to suggest Plax comes here…but then I see the first post…by Thomas 2.2.

    And Jerry…and DCBUCSFAN…

    Really? Really?

I don’t like putting people, especially fellow fans down…but really????

  10. espo Says:

I say let’s sign him, and then trade him for Talib to get out of whatever prison he’s in.

  11. Weneeddefense Says:

    Plax is a thug.

Which means he is on Raheems wish list, at the top of it.

Now, to be quite honest, I dont think Plax is a bad guy. I mean he shot himself by accident in the leg. Poor guy went to jail over an accident. Of course he shouldnt have had the gun in the club (dumb move)… but it was an accident. What were his other issues?

With Talib… well, he is a violent maniac, and that is putting it nicely. Talib cannot control himself in the least bit. Thats the sad part. How does the corrections system iron out the uncontrollable angry psychos of society like Talib? Well, i suppose they end up in jail, and rightfully so. This world will be a better place with guys like Talib behind bars and second chances left for guys like Plax and Blount who have recognized their mistakes and are making amends to live a free life in the great United States of America.

  12. Gary Says:

And the scumbag of the day award goes to weneeddefense. Saying aqib should be thrown in jail and the key thrown away because he defended his sister and might end up being innocent of those charges shows your true colors. I’m sure your bitch ass has never done anything wrong much less defended a family member in danger. You would run away and cry right?

  13. WeNeedDefense Says:

“With Talib… well, he is a violent maniac, and that is putting it nicely.”

He absolutely fits the mold of a violent menace to society brotha.

    -Fight at rookie symposium… check
-Fight in practice to the extent of swinging a helmet at someone… check
-Fight with Torrie Cox injuring him… check
-Punching a Cab driver in the back of the head (who does that anyway?)… check
-Blowing up for an entire half plus halftime, against a ref’s call, then confrinting the ref after the game and having to be held back so he didn’t attack the ref… check
-Fighting and shooting at another thug, while his mommy fired shots as well (runs in the family)… check.

Seriously, how many more incidents does one need before claiming with FULL confidence that Talib is a violent menace to society?

Violent menace to society is Aqib Talib. Now go back to apologizing for the maniac.

  14. Pete Dutcher Says:

-Punching a Cab driver in the back of the head (who does that anyway?)… check

Slapped him in hte back of the head…and it was because the cabbie saw his three passengers were black, and insisted on charging them in advance.

Talib is not afraid to fight and he is impulsive. Personally, I think he needs medication.

    But I don’t think he’s a thug.

-Blowing up for an entire half plus halftime, against a ref’s call, then confrinting the ref after the game and having to be held back so he didn’t attack the ref… check

    Uncheck.
He wasn’t going to attack the ref, he was just yelling at him because the ref was an idiot. Newsflash. Football players yell at refs.

Fight in practice to the extent of swinging a helmet at someone… check

That sort of thing happens all the time in practice. If Talib had not previously had issues of voilence, we likely would have never heard about it.

  15. Pete Dutcher Says:

Seriously, how many more incidents does one need before claiming with FULL confidence that Talib is a violent menace to society?

Tell me, why are you not saying the same about Shannon Billings? He hit…HIT…his girlfriend and sexually assaulted another woman. Yet you call the man who had the balls to give him what he deserves a thug.

    That’s just warped.

  16. WeNeedDefense Says:

Again peter, Talib is a violent menace to society. Keep apologizing for the maniac.

You actually brought the other thug up as your arguement that Talib doesn’t have a history of assulting people?

  17. Capt.Tim Says:

Yeah Pete, let him in your house, after an earlier fight where neighbors called the cops, then end up trying to pistol whip him with your gun. Let him take it away. Then your convicted felon mother produces her illegal gun, and pops off a few rounds. Then Talib takes it, and pops off a few rounds.

All the while, in a house full of cell phones, noones calls 911?
Oh, yeah. Pretty heroic. Especially letting the guy back in the house, after he allegedly beat up his sister.

Guy should get man of the year!

    Zombies!!

  18. Capt.Tim Says:

Zombies defending Talib, and not one lol about my “at least Plaxico shot one loser, Talib didn’t shot any, in a house full”. Damn! Site is losing its sense of humor!!

  19. gitarlvr Says:

Capt. Tim- So obviously you were there right? You sure talk like you witnessed the whole thing. Let’s just execute Aqib Talib now. Who needs the constitution.

  20. gitarlvr Says:

  21. Theodore Says:

Burress not coming to the Bucs is a shame. Talib not only clocked someone with a gun, but also fired shots… all without a single bullet entering human flesh. Burress can use some of those gun safety tips.

  22. Mr. Lucky Says:

I say the Bucs SHOULD get Plexico on the team – then the Bucs would beat out the Cincy Bengals for most arrested players on the team.

  23. Oahubuc Says:

    Redskins are a perfect fit.

  24. Capt.Tim Says:

Pete- billings is FAMILY. Didn’t you read the other article posted here. He has dated Talib’s sister for awhile, and is frequently at that house. He didn’t attack another woman- he molested a 14 year old girl.

Still trying to paint Talib as the hero? Sad. I bet you are campaigning harder for that thug than Freeman or McCoy. Both good character, Christian guys who don’t want to see some rapper wannabe throw their hard work down the drain!!

    Wise up buddy!
