Beefed Up D-Line Will Cushion Talib Void

April 29th, 2011

One of the greatest truisms in football is that a good defensive line can make a mediocre secondary look good.

Now Joe’s not about to suggest the Bucs secondary is mediocre. Until this evening, it was the strongest unit on the team, sans Josh Freeman. Now Joe is convinced that the Falcons going out and getting Julio Jones will make no difference in Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik’s decision on whether to jettison troubled cornerback Aqib Talib.

Joe is of the opinion there won’t be much of a drop off if any at all if Talib is an ex-Bucs player in the coming weeks. Some suggested that the Dixie Chicks acquiring Jones sealed Talib’s job security with the Bucs.

With the selection of Adrian Clayborn and Da’Quan Bowers, defensive ends each, along with current tackles Gerald McCoy and Brian Price, potentially the Bucs have the strongest, youngest defensive front in football.

The way these guy should torment opposing quarterbacks, Joe expects the secondary to explode, with or without Talib.

for christ’s sake, give it a rest already.

Explode. No sorry joe. Right now with no T-jack either no Real balhawkers who look for the ball to turn around a game. hopefully im wrong but i think we will be good but i wouldnt expect a lot of INTS.

There is no bigger story in Bucsdom than what will happen with Aqib Talib. To “give it a rest” would be utterly unethical.

Not even close to the strongest. As much as I hate to admit it, and as shocked, the Lions Dline is going to be the top in the NFL.

But…we have the better offense when all is said and done. So far.

  5. Gavster Says:

Lions do not have the youngest and their ends are still iffy unless u think vaden bosch will still be good.

which ever “Joe” typed this is flat out wrong. Yes the dline will make the secondary better but Talib is still a pro bowl level talent and that cant be overlooked so easily. Come on Joe

When I get into a fight, I want a knife, a gun, and a couple of number 2 Augusta bricks. You can never have enough weapons. No matter what happens, we will still need Talib!

  8. Matthew levanduski Says:

Yeah this d line will help, but look at it like Talib with a scrub like – 6 picks in what 11 games and db of the year voted by the players… Talib with a beast line probably becomes 8-10 picks, plus the amount of coverage sacks that a cover corner like Talib can contribute to… Bucs still need Talib even though I absolutely love the draft

  9. Capt.Tim Says:

You guys crying for Talib are starting to sound ridiculous! That Lil idiot isn’t a pro bowl CB, except in your minds. What he is, is a loose cannon, who gets suspended every year, and can’t be counted on. He will be cut. We will sign a much better free agent, and the defense will be better

    @Capt.Tim

“That Lil idiot isn’t a pro bowl CB”

Talib has been playing at a pro bowl level for the last 3 years. He’s deserved to go to the pro bowl at least once. The reason he hasn’t is because he plays for the Bucs, it’s pretty obvious. We get no attention. If he played for the Cowboys or the Patriots he probably would’ve been to 2 of them already. Plus, look at the lousy D line and the lack of talent he’s had to play around for his first 3 years. He could easily have a 10-12 pick season.

And who knows for sure the D line is going to be good next year? It’s gonna take some time for Clayborn and Bowers to get in a groove. And McCoy and Price haven’t really proven anything yet so what makes you so convinced? Regardless of whether our D line is good or not, having Talib in the secondary is MUCH better than having Biggers back there. You have the best player possible for each position. I don’t think Biggers is terrible, I just think he’s a backup and average at best. He played decent at times last year but he wasn’t effective and never got any turnovers/big plays like Talib did.

Capt. Tim, aren’t you somewhat scared at all that we could likely lose our best defensive player?? You seem like you’re all for it, yet we have no acceptable replacement for Talib on the roster right now. And c’mon man, I know you probably want Asoumougha like I do, but do you really think Rah and Dom will sign him? Have they signed any star free agents?

Talib is a damn good player and I hope we can keep him. There’s no proof that he did anything wrong. We need to wait and see how this thing plays out. No need to cut him right now. None of us know anything. He may have just been trying to defend his family. Or maybe he is scum and shot at a guy for no reason. Or maybe he didn’t touch a gun at all. We don’t know. If he’s guilty and goes to prison, fine release him. If he’s not, then can keep him and have an awesome defense for years to come!

Honestly, I have a feeling he’s gonna be found innocent. His lawyer has stated that all 17 of the witnesses said that Talib never had a gun.

  11. espo Says:

Joe, why do you think its okay to release Talib if the result is only a little dropoff? Let’s keep him and combine him with our new pass rush so there is no droppoff. We’re trying to get better here I thought.

  12. Capt.Tim Says:

Patrick- are you nuts? Really? Talib has frequently been burned for touchdowns because he gambles- again stupid and selflish. You guys are building this loser into something he’s not. We will replace him, and the team will be better

Bucs should have drafted Mike Jenkins
