A-Train Talks Concussions

February 16th, 2011

Talking about life, the Bucs and pimping his charitable foundation on the Ron and Ian Show yesterday on WDAE-AM 620, Mike Alstott answered questions about his health.

The ferocious A-Train said he works out every morning to avoid feeling like the “Tin Man,” and he answered questions about concussions.

“I only recall like one, two [concussions] through all the hard hits and stuff like that. Don’t get me wrong. Gettin’ up, and you shake your head and you’re like, ‘Wow, that was a good collision there,'” Alstott said. “But I never had one of those like the Aaron Rodgers one where you seem him on the ground. …I never had to be helped off the field.”

Alstott said he has no regrets regarding his neck injuries and concussions and would do it all again.

“It’s a childhood dream … and I got to live until I was 34 years old,” Alstott said.

Joe loves that attitude.

Alstott went on to say he was pretty sure he and other NFL players with less than five years out of their playing days would lose their NFL medical benefits during a lockout.

I just hope A-Train continues to be in good health, allowing him to never have any regrets about his playing days.

Not sure how many players have true regrets? But, the way they are treated (or should say, NOT treated) after retiring!

I sure miss his play. That 02 team was really full of unique vet talent. Too bad we arent allowed to have errrrr pay for vet talent anymore.

  8. Fire Greg Olson! Says:

You mean Ricky Dudley. He wasn’t too bad of a 2nd TE. Gilmore has been pretty decent, also a Gruden guy…

I’ve met Alstott on 3 separate occasions: once when he was visiting my college, once when he was doing a business transaction with my brother’s business, and once at Raymond James, and ALL THREE TIMES he was very approachable, friendly, and sincerely happy to see another Buc fan.

Not much more needs to be said. He’s a timeless icon here, and deserves it. All the best to him and his family.
