Local Boy Made Good

It appears Jeremy Zuttah's days as a left guard may be over with the Bucs. Local product Ted Larsen has kept the starting job at left guard.

Ted Larsen grew up in Pinellas County. He played for that (not so much) football powerhouse Palm Harbor University High. Larsen was the school’s first Division-I recruit.

After passing through the Patriots organization he landed with the Bucs and, due to injuries found himself in the starting lineup. It appears he will be there for a few more games, per eye-RAH! Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune who Twittered the news on the TBO Bucs Twitter feed.

Rookie Ted Larsen may have won the starting job at left guard ahead of third-year pro Jeremy Zuttah. It’s something to watch Sunday.

Jeremy Zuttah has been somewhat of a disappointment as a left guard. But as a center (he filled in for injured Jeff Faine) and previously at right guard (when he played for an injured Davin Joseph as a rookie), Zuttah has done quite well.

It seems the Bucs have come to the same conclusion. Should Faine (with a hefty contract) be concerned?

Ah, YEAH, Faine should be concerned! ANYTIME in the NFL, if someone younger and cheaper is doing a good job at YOUR JOB, ya better be nervous! Now add the fact that he’s showing sign of being injury prone, plus not playing up to his previous standards, Plus we are in a youth movement, plus the line play has been VERY disappointing, and Yeah, the guy probably is walking around with a mop bucket, he’s sweating so hard! If he isn’t sweating, then it’s because he’s already accepted defeat, and has packed up the house. That’s life in the NFL( not for long) league! Play great, and don’t get hurt! Tough!

Proud of Larsen! Still think his future is at Center, though!

So let me get this straight, JoeBucsFan All-Pro and Perennial JBF Pro Bowler Jeremy Zuttah is getting benched in favor of a guy who was already cut this year by the Patriots…

    BUT HOW COULD THAT BE?!?!?!?

P.S. Lets not forget Joe, that Zuttah was drafted in Rd 3 out of Rutgers as a guard to play guard. The center experiment only came up recently…when I guess he played so well there they figured they should try him somewhere else…or something. That’s what they do to all the great players right?

Faines doesnt have to worry for the rest of this year as he’s already been announced by Raheem as the starting center. Its nice to have a guy like Zuttah who can backup multiple positions along the line.

Just another solid move by Mark D. I was a little nervous last year after the veteran purge, but big D keeps the young guns coming. There is some impressive stuff going on over 1 Buc these days. Can’t wait to see who steps up next. It seems like every other week someone else has been shown the bench because someone else is demanding more playing time. Sammie better watch out because I think Parker is about to become our new slot recievier.

I think Zuttah makes a great backup. Not sure he’s starting material anywhere on the line, but it’s really nice having a guy that can come in and play when there are injuries on the interior of the line and play well.

Probably not going to crow as loud about Zuttah anymore, hey Joe?

  8. JDouble Says:

Faine is overrated and over paid. I’d be happy to see him traded for a decent draft pick this offseason…if anyone even wants him.

  9. JimBuc Says:

Careful, you get banned from JBF if you mention Zuttah! 🙂

I am excited to see these things happening in our organization. This was something that was lacking in our past GM/ head coach regimes. Competition competition competition!

  11. thomas 2.1 Says:

Yeah Posey! Kyle Moore, Roy Miller and Styles really EARNED their jobs through open and fair compeetition!!

That is such b.s. Larsen and Zuttah and Lee are playing b/c of injury, well see who starts when all are healthy.

    thomas,

So, you were a judge on the competition committee in training camp? You know what basis each was given the starting role on? I don’t think any of us know, maybe you could enlighten us. Out of the 3 you mention, only Kyle Moore could possibly be considered “handed” the job. And who knows? It could have been more based on athletic ability and potential with Moore, so I can’t even say that. Only the coaching staff knows what any of these guys have done to earn their starting roles. And even with that, there is the possibility that they’ve made some mistakes. After all, nobodies perfect.

In reality, they’ve actually done a pretty good job evaluating talent on this team. They’ve added, what appears to be, solid depth through practice squad pick-ups and free agents. If they missed on Kyle Moore, it’s not like they missed by much. I’d say Bennett is the best LDE we have, but he’s not THAT much better than Moore, so maybe there’s something I’m missing that the coaches see, or maybe the made a minor error. Either way, it’s not like we (as fans) know what the coaches know.

If you think competitions were unfair, that’s your prerogative. But I would figure Miller got the spot in part due to Price’s hamstring injury in camp and Stylez got it because he’s still our best edge rusher (even though that’s not saying much). I think the battles for left guard between Zuttah/Vincent were fair, and between Zuttah/Larsen will be fair, just like I thought it was fair between Sabby/Jones.

Thomas, you’re the guy who posted this week that you wanted Raheem fired even if we finished 13-3- right? Just hate the guy, nothing to do with the job he does, right? The why is your dumb ass still posting here? Go find a team your gay likes! This is a post for The Tampa Bay Buccaneers! Their Coach is Raheem Morris, and he I’d doing a great job. He’ll be coaching here for years to come. He’s already been told he’s got 2 more years. What this isn’t, is a post for(at best) undying gruden love affairs, or at worst. Blind racism. Get lost Thomas- you suck!
