“They Think They Can Win”

October 11th, 2010

Former Bucs guard Ian Beckles (1990-1996), co-host of the Ron and Ian Show on WDAE-AM 620, says it’s time Bucs fans tip their caps to Raheem Morris.

Stunned by the Bucs 3-1 record, Beckles said the Bucs are not a physical team and are ripe to be exposed more in future games yet are thriving off their mentality.

“It doesn’t matter. They think they can win. And that’s half the battle sometimes,” Beckles said.

“It’s not so crazy,” Beckles said of Raheem’s Race-to-10 catch phrase for 2010.

Beckles went on to say that his eyes were keyed in during the game on Gerald McCoy. “It wasn’t pretty, Beckles said. “He is not physical at all. He was getting ragdolled a lot.”

Uh oh…looks like local media is finally realizing that. Young Team + Confidence = Opportunity. Only thing new here is that it is coming from 620 IMO.

  2. big007hed Says:

I agree Oldschool…. First the local media will come around then maybe the national media

  3. Bucnjim Says:

If the Bucs go 5-1 watch how full the bandwagon gets! I was very optimistic saying 7-9 was possible maybe 8-8 if we got some bounces. Now with another win or 2 coming up and that will be more than just a possibility.

  4. Ash Says:

Big Dog (620) has been pro Raheem / Dom and the young bucs. Silly Hoe and others were doubters

  5. FIRE GREG OLSON! Says:

This post has to be completely inaccurate. How could McCoy be getting pushed around on the Bucs D-Line when Ian Beckles GUARANTEED that the Bucs would trade out of the third spot to avoid paying a salary that would come with the third overall pick?

I am entertained by Ron and Ian….until they start talking sports.

Getting sports info from that show is like getting fantasy advice from Barbara Walters…

  6. bucfanjeff Says:

Saints, Rams, @Cardinals, @Falcons, Panthers – our next 5 opponents in order. Besides the Falcons, is any of those teams playing well? No. Our record could be surprisingly positive soon.

  7. Leighroy Says:

Hey they claim to be for the “everyday ham and egger,” so don’t expect a world class egg’s benedict when you walk into a Denny’s.

  8. CreamsiclePasties Says:

McCoy has not looked great….I spent a lot of time watching him yesterday and he was slow off the ball and got pushed around…..

Sapp looked awful his first yr…..but McCoy still has a long way to go

  9. jaytek74 Says:

I like Gerald McCoy as a man since he seems to be good hearted and personable. That being said, I think as a football player he was a mistake for us. I do not see him standing out any more than Brian Price who we picked up in the 2nd round. We could have traded down a couple of spots and still grabbed someone who could help this team. I hope McCoy will grow up and become a good NFL lineman in the not so distant future but it seems like the Bucs should avoid high 1st round defensive line picks since we have a bad track record in that area. So far our offensive picks seem to be far outperforming their defensive counterparts. I thinks a little patience is in order for these rookie defensive linemen, but I am a little nervous that they are not going to pan out for us.

  10. BigMacAttack Says:

I predicted the Bucs would start off the Season 4-0, but I missed the mark. I totally underestimated the Pissburgh Squeelers, and thought without Big Ben Rapier that they would suck. I was totally wrong about them. The Giants are currently the best NFC team by far as they are coming alive. After that I think the NFC is wide open for the taking. ATL is good and I can’t wait to play them. New Orleans looks very beatable. We will probably lose to the Ravens but so what, they need to learn from it and if the Ravens have injuries, that could change. The AFC is the real deal. Pats, Jets, Ravens, Steelers, and now Titans. The Chiefs, Texans and Colts I see as second tier teams. The good thing is that they will all continue to beat the hell out of each other with their bruising defenses. 10-6 for the Bucs doesn’t look out of reach anymore, but it’s still early and losing Faine sucks.

  11. Pete 422 Says:

Defensive linemen take time to develop, so we need to give Gerald McCoy some time, along with the others.

WRs usually take time also, so Mike Williams is a freak. I also see them bring Benn into the game plan a bit. I’d rather see our offense develop quicker, the D will be fine.

  12. McBuc Says:

Jaytek…It took Sapp two years to dominate, give Mcoy some time. Besides, there is no point wondering what or who we could have drafted, we have these guys and they are 3 – 1.

  13. chargedcbh Says:

Ian also said the he didn’t think the Bucs even touched Palmer. Ian do watch the game over again before you speak? You really should, yes there were no sacks. There was a pass rush, even on the Bengals first drive. Price mad a great move to get in Palmers face and then Rhonde cam on a blitz and just missed a sack. Ian your an idiot, just like the rest of Tampa media. There going to trade the pick. So sad…..

  14. lightningbuc Says:

Ron and Ian Show should be called the Food and Liquor show – it’s all they talk about.

  15. Mr. Lucky Says:

What concens me most about McCoy is this – moving him around the D-line all the time. I HOPE someone at One Buc Place is working with Gerald to help him IMPROVE.

This is the NFL, not BCS. I don’t expect him to dominate but I expect to see improvement.

Coaching makes a BIG DIFFERENCE. Don’t believe me than explain why the Redskins are leading the NFC East? Is Donavan THAT good or MAYBE it’s their experienced HC????

  16. New Era Bucs Says:

Oh that did’nt take long for someone to call out coach Morris after a win. Lol some people just can not let it go. Time to hop on the band wagon or move on

  17. Capt.Tim Says:

Poor Ian obviously played in the days before Concussions were of any concern! He’s apparently had his head kicked around like a soccer ball! I don’t really care what the local media has to say. They are absolutely the worst I have ever seen in any of the Many NfL Cities I’ve lived in. If you wonder why we get no respect Nationally? It’s because the form their opinions based on local Media they surf on the Web!! If ya read or listen to that Crap, along with some of our stupid “hater” fans, you wouldn’t think this team could run outta the Tunnel without hurting themselves!! Just keep doing what I do, call and remind these losers all the garbage they’ve said about the team!! Make them accountable- especially on the Air. Hopefully it will help replace the bad ones with actual sports journalist, which we need around here! By the way, while McCoy and Price may look like they are struggiling, they have improved or DL play enough to get us to 3-1. DT play last year was much, much worse than this year! And these guys will get Better!
    B

  18. Capt.Tim Says:

Mr. Lucky- lol! NO NO NO! It’s all Donovan McNabb!! Every little bit they’ve improved is ALL Mcnabb! The NFL is a QB driven league . We could end up at 10-6 with a crappy OL, ineffective running game, and Unable to stop the run!! Why?? JOSH FREEMAN!! Now we fix the broken pieces this off season, and try to win a superbowl for the Next 8 years!! That’s why Detroit is the stupidest team in the league!! They don’t have a LT, yet they drafted Suh!! Who gives a Sh*^ what he’s doing, Stafford is standing there hurt on the side lines! They aren’t Winning Squat!!! Just plain STUPID!! Getting Mcnabb us the only intelligent thing the Skins have done in ages!! But it just may put them in the Playoffs!

  19. Pete Dutcher Says:

Beckles is a former Bucs player, but he is constantly negative about the team. He is one of those persons that predicted 3-4 wins for the season.

I suppose it’s alright to change his opinion, but in my book he’s not a true Bucs fan…though he would argue the point. Total Bandwagoner. Too bad he gets tickets for free…

  20. chargedcbh Says:

I know the fools at ESPN never watched the games but this was too funny. On Primetime, who the hell is Dilfer to say anything about being a QB. Anyway Hodge said that the Bengals had no pass rush and the Bucs ran all over them.

  21. goodfellajay Says:

looks like ppl hating on the show…its funny joe not in here,,,,

  22. will the beast Says:

I did see the wall come down on Mccoy a few times in that game yesterday. He got pancaked a few times. I think they need to get Big 99 at 1Buc To give these kids a few instructions Sapp, Steve White, Glibert Brown, Leroy Selmon someone please show these kids how 2 get at the Qb

  23. TheAngryDJ Says:

Ian is a lil right. He does get pushed around. And he’s right about Ruud too, he seems a little soft like he’s avoiding contact. But I don’t know if Ian gave him some props for taking on a lot of double teams. They are giving McCoy a little respect but I think with time and a little more muscle he can become dominant. The guys around him aren’t getting the job done so he’s scrutinized even more because the lack of sack production by the other D-Linemen they rotate out. Especially Greg White who looks like he’s always out of position. He will earn the right for me to call him “Stylez” when he’s cool and starts getting real pressure and stop missing sacks and taking massive angles that put him 10 yards behind the QB or RB.

  24. Bucnjim Says:

I think McCoy will be fine; he is still a young rookie playing a Man’s position. He is far from reaching his prime or his potential. Needs to learn the veteran O lineman tricks before he’s successful. The Bucs D leans heavily 4 guys to take on 6 or even 7.
