Mike Smith Doesn’t Monitor The Bucs… Yet

It appears Mike Smith doesn’t know much about the Bucs.

Yet.

The Falcons coach made his weekly appearance this morning on Sirius NFL Radio and Peter King, who was co-hosting “The Opening Drive” along with Bob Papa, asked Smith what he thought of the Bucs.

Smith didn’t think much of the Bucs only because he has seen only scant snippets of Bucs games.

Peter King: I’d like to know something: I have been really fascinated by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They are feisty on defense. They have a really good leader in Josh Freeman at quarterback, even though he is only 22. How much time to you spend — if you spend any time at all — looking at other teams during the week that you don’t play them?

Mike Smith: Peter, I don’t spend any time looking at a team until the week that we play them. But we spent time in the offseason looking at the Bucs because our last game last year was against Tampa. You can see the groundwork they were building to have a very good football team.

Freeman has the skill set to be a very good quarterback. I think Raheem has those guys playing extremely hard and they are extremely opportunistic, taking advantage of a lot mistakes by other teams. From my vantage point just watching on TV, they are the up-and-coming team we thought they would be and they are a team that should be reckoned with.

Is it too soon for me to point out that I never was a Raheem doubter? I have had the occassion to speak with him the week before the Steelers game at the Glazer opening for the Children’s Museum. While I don’t know much about X’s and O’s, I can judge character. I can see why these guys play for him.

We have seen a coach win the locker room then lose it. Example: Gruden. But he seems to have a knack for connecting with these guys. Maybe we do have a young version of Tomlin on our hands.

Would you expect Mike Smith to say something different?

Waaaaaay too late to proclaim Raheem support. Had to do so before the season!! Now, yer just jumping on the Bandwagon, lol

  5. Capt.Tim Says:

I believe ya , Jon! But at 3-1, even Lighningbuc, Patrick, and Tampa 2 are claiming they’ve supported Raheem all along! And we all know they were talking trash all summer about him and the Bucs. I actually wrote on several post this Summer that the Bucs Management had come to believe this team could be a winner, and fight for a play off spot this year!!! Now THAT was support, and got me attacked by a number of idiots! Ya gotta post something like that in July to get to stand up in the bandwagon and shout!!! Saying it now, when we are 3-1, nah, sit back down!

I really have to give Peter King some love here. I’ve always liked the guy and the professionalism he displays with his job. I saw he ran that mini-marathon and looks like he he has been working hard to lose weight. He has done quite the flip flop on the Bucs and can’t stop talking about them. This is cool to have at least one MSM guy pulling for you, provided they can keep winning. But I think we have a Bandwagoneer in King. Go Bucs!

  7. Jon Says:

Too bad I cannot go back and pull my comments of support, unless Joe Buck Fan wants to do it for me. 🙂

  8. OAR Says:

Jon, “Joe Buck Fan”? This isn’t a hunting blog! LOL!

  9. Capt.Tim Says:

I think we let Jon go back in time. I’m ok with it!

Where are all the negative posters? I haven’t seen thomas, eric, tampa2 yet this week. I know they were poking their heads in here from time to time to get a jab in earlier this year. I would figure eric would at least keep posting, although usually negative, he never seemed to wish the team to lose, unlike some of the others.

  11. Capt.Tim Says:

Yeah, I knee the rest of those idiots would disappear, but I liked Eric! He said some ridiculously horrible crap at times, but I always got the impression that he wanted to believe.. I’m glad the rest of those Lil fags are gone. No site needs that many whinny Lil gay hater!!! I have noticed “mr. Sucky, ‘er, “Lucky”, is now now trying to be the Hater! Though he’s not smart enuff, lol
