“To See Him Fly Around … Was Impressive”

In his news conference yesterday, the Bucs’ defensive mastermind/head coach made mention of rookie Cody Grimm flying around and delivering good hits from the safety position.
It made Joe realize he left positive feedback on Grimm in his notebook on Saturday night.
Watching Grimm, it’s obvious he has a PhD in angles. Whereas Sabby Piscitelli is operating like, say, an untrained farm animal in that aspect of the game. Grimm certainly evokes thoughts of John Lynch, but they’re just happy thoughts, of course.
Joe doubts Grimm has the raw physical talent to be a great safety in the NFL, and right now he may not even be more valuable to the Bucs than reserve safety/special teams ace Corey Lynch, but Grimm sure looks like a football player.

i dont care if hes a 7th rounder and still a projest (he was a LB at Virginia Tech) but im preety sure confident about him over the goat, actually, im guessing we can cut the goat!!!

I think it’s premature to rule out Grimm becoming a “great safety in the NFL” when he’s such a fresh face. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s also too soon to give him huge props as well.
I think it comes down to some talent (which he has), hard work, coaching, mentorship, and determination. He could turn out a bust (though as a 7th rounder, that would be hard), an average guy, or he could turn into a hall of famer by the time 10 years have passed.
We just won’t know if he’s truly got the potential for another year or so.
That said, what would we expect a future hall of famer to do, if placed in his situation? Isn’t he doing those things?

I love the Reaper’s raw talent! Like you said Joe, he fly’s around the field, deliver’s big hits, and takes great angles towards the ball. I have a feeling the guy could be quite valuable in the near future for the Bucs. Don’t count him out!

I can see the Buc’s trying to sneak Grimm unto the practice squad and that will be the Redskin’s cue to grab him. I hope I’m wrong.

I absolutely LOVED the NFL Network highlights of Cody Grimm…And in fact, commented in that thread here on JBF that he reminded me of Lynch. Not so much in size or power, but in his speed to the play.
