“The Beast” Was No Match For Biggers

August 14th, 2010

No doubt this was Joe’s second favorite play of the Fins-Bucs game.

Cornerback E.J. Biggers was one-on-one with Miami’s superstar wideout Brandon Marshall. The pass was on target, and Biggers was in perfect position to hit Marshall and use his hands to strip him clean.

Joe could just hear the wind sucked out of the Sun Life stadium crowd, which expects Marshall to bring them a Super Bowl. Keep dreaming, fellas.

Biggers had a very strong night and got plenty of reps with the absence of Aqib Talib and the injured Myron Lewis, and Ronde Barber seeing little action.

With a good tackle in the backfield and a fumble recovery, Biggers probably all but locked up the starting nickel cornerback job.

At this point, there’s no reason to think he’ll be challenged.

And all of a sudden it looks like we have some depth at CB.

  2. Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Bigggers was brilliant, Marshall was a non factor.

  3. The D Says:

I think we’ll probably have him as either our nickel or dime CB. Last year Cox and Mack both had a lot of playing time, so its not outta the question to see Biggers and Lewis play a lot this year.

  4. Pete Dutcher Says:

This batch of young CBs might actually put Ronde’s job in jeapordy soon.

    Joe here,

    Pete, not going to happen.

  6. Patrick Says:

Will you all please calm down about the CB’s? They were OK tonight but they didn’t do anything spectacular that made me set off fireworks! Ronde is still a better option than Biggers or Lewis and now that we’re switching back to the Tampa 2 full time, I’m sure Ronde will have a better season. The Bates scheme messed him up last year, as it did with the rest of the defense.

Biggers was ok tonight and I’ll be rooting for him to get better, but I’m just saying. calm down.

It’s just nice to see another guy from last year’s draft (and a late round choice as well) doing good. Seems like we may be getting more production from more players than we thought. Kyle Moore looked pretty decent too. That would be Freeman, Miller, Moore, Biggers and Stroughter helping the team produce (as starter or backup) from last year’s draft. Not bad. Add in Williams, Price, McCoy and maybe Benn, Lewis and Bowden from this year and we’ve done a heck of a job drafting. Of course, only time will tell. Too early to say they’re tearing it up or anything. Just saying it looks very positive at this point.

    amen BamBam

  9. k_bassuka Says:

That was one play, Marshall burned Biggers on another one if it wasn’t because he dropped the ball he would’ve scored

    coulda woulda shoulda

Altough not drafted,we also picked up Bennett(waivers) and Huggins(free agent) last year.Michael Bennett looked good last nite.I know it was against a lot of the 2nd team, but was still pretty impressive.

  12. Radio Mushmouth Says:

Since when does the DB get credit for excellent coverage when the WR is wide open all night and simply drops all the passes ??

  13. BamBamBuc Says:

The slant route, Marshall was not wide open. Biggers was on his back with a hand inside stripping the catch. The other one was a drop, so our 3rd or 4th CB against one of the best WRs in the NFL was 50/50 on the passes they actually threw to Marshall when Biggers was covering him. Wonder why (if he was always wide open) they didn’t throw more than twice while Biggers was on him? Add that to the Ronde-type blitz where he jumps on the fumbled snap (he probably woulda got a sack even if the snap wasn’t fumbled) and Biggers had a pretty impressive night.

  15. McBuc Says:

Patick…NO WE WILL NOT CALM DOWN! Why not be excited about the team and a young guy that plaeyed a good game…

    Mush..GO AWAY!

  16. Radio Mushmouth Says:

    I’m not a hater , I’m a realist.

All I am saying is I saw Marshall wide open at least twice and he simply dropped the ball.

Strange not to see Eric posting here! I remember him saying something about BM embarrassing us in that Game . . Lol, you knew I wasn’t letting you slide on that one!

  18. Rican Says:

Lol good one Tim, I was wondering the exact same thing.
