Derrick Ward’s Not Talking

August 15th, 2010

After last night’s Bucs loss in Miami, Joe gave Derrick Ward a grade of F- and detailed his horrid, angry night of crappy production and moaning to teammates.

Tom Balog, of the Sarasota Herald Tribune, in his ugly review of Ward’s effort, says Ward didn’t talk to the media.

No surprise there.

And that’s an ominous thought in the National Football League, where as everyone knows, if you can’t run the ball, you can’t win.

And nobody with the Buccaneers wants to find out what that could mean.

Because if it’s going to be another long year for Ward, the Buccaneers are going to be down to one effective back, with no one to pull them out of the bottom of the league’s rushing statistics.

In his postgame news conference, Raheem The Dream said there are no excuses for anyone on the field Saturday — not rain, mud or Fabiola nearby.

Raheem The Dream noted that Kareem Huggins had success running behind the same second-team offensive line as Ward.

Yea, lets go spend more money on useless free agents !! Just saying……

  2. TJ Says:

I mean I use to oppose this but if he continues this poor play cut him and get a RB of free agency to help with huggings and grahm and caddy like that morris siad no excuses kareem ran behind the same oline

Another great FA signing by Mark Dumbinick. Ward, Clayton… How mny misses does this guy get before the media citisizes him like they did Bruce?

  4. Capt.Tim Says:

I think the big payday has sent Ward into the Tank! We try him again next week, but start looking. The good thing is , that soon teams will be cutting some decent backs. If Ward continues to mail it in, we cut him and sign someone else. A least with RB, there will be some talent to choose from. WestTampa- ?? Did you see Freeman play a Perfect Quarter last night. And all the other Rookies looking good! Dominick has basically rebuilt the entire team in two years. He’s gotten draft picks for other peoples mistakes(Adams/Bryant/ McCown), he’s had two EXCELLENT drafts in a row, and he may have found a FRANCHISE Quarterback in the middle of the first round! And a Franchise QB is the only thing that really matters in the NFL! Mark Dominick has attracted so much attention, he could pick his team/job in the NFL. The only two mistakes I’ve seen is Clayton and meybe Ward. But those are really easy to fix- snip snip

He has definitetrly gone in the tank. This is not the same guy that used to run for the Giants like a beast.

Cut his ass…any bum off the street can run as hard as he is….

@ Capt. Tim, I agree 100 % ! My comment was aimed at the guys groaning about the lack of free agent signings this year . GO BUCS !!

Huggins has established he can play well in the second half of a pre-season game.

Why not give him a shot with the first team this week? Caddy doesn’t need the work and Mr. Ward seems a bit indifferent.

Maybe that would light a fire under Derrick.

  8. Blackmagic00 Says:

Erics right on. Why do we need another freeagent right now. Huggins looked sharp, Ward can be the third back and I think we are all pretty sick of other teams garbage. Caddy looked real good and Huggins looked evey bit of the hype.

  9. Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I say cut him, before his roster spot winds up costing us Clifton Smith, etc.
Behind the exact same offensive line, Huggins made yardage.

  10. jester03 Says:

Please trade or cut Ward he should have been a Beast he had alot to prove and he looks like he is tanking it on purpose missing plays missing blocks and fumbling, his running was the least of the Bucs problems he does not want to be a Buc!!! so move Graham back to RB keep Purvis for FB use Roy Miller in short yardage. On a positive note K.Huggins could be great this year, his jump cut looks good preseason or not.

  11. JK Says:

Getting off the running back situation, the BIG stat that jumped out at me at the end was us holding the phins rushing attack to 50 yards. That’s what impresses me the most. When was the last time we held any team preseason or not to 50 yards rushing? Maybe there is hope for this season. I fill like we won. Lots better than I thought we would be.

  12. Ledge Says:

Picture Huggie Bear running behind the first string O Line…on dry turf 😉

  13. FloridaGirl Says:

Sell him to San Fran for a draft pick!!!!!! Coffee just retired after two seasons and there’s no mud to run through.

  14. Radio Mushmouth Says:

no one is going to trade for him right now…RB’s come a dime a dozen in this league.

  15. Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

No one wants to trade us for either Clayton OR Derrick Ward. Who wants their huge salaries ?
