Jeff Garcia Still Looking For Work

July 21st, 2010

Seems as though former Bucs quarterback Jeff Garcia is still out of a job. Joe has a suggestion for Garcia: Call Mark Dominik.

Say what you will about the Bucs this year, whether you are Randy Cross and see a trainwreck, or if you are commenter JimBuc and see Raheem the Dream raising the Vince Lombardi Trophy amid a shower of confetti on an early February night in Dallas, the prospects of the Bucs doing anything offensively if quarterback Josh Freeman goes down is no less than frightening.

Career backup Josh Johnson proved to be true to the moniker bestowed upon him by Raheem the Dream in limited starts last year. Beyond that are two signal-callers who have yet to take an NFL snap.

If there’s a team out there crying for a reliable backup quarterback, it is the Bucs. Jeff Garcia can be that man.

Besides, with Rachel Watson now tormenting fathers in the general Land O’ Lakes area, who better to brighten the sidelines than Carmella?

Are you serious? No, really, are you serious??

Jeff Garcia has proven that he is NOT the ideal backup: he wants to play. He wants to play and he makes it KNOWN that he wants to play. That is not what we need here in Tampa.

Besides, since he is a vet that is unlikely to be signed, if anything happens to Freeman and JJ stinks it up terribly, we can just sign him them and have him play off the streets. Does anyone think his learning curve would be that high?

I usually mostly agree with you Joe, but this post is just crazy. (Unless, of course, you just want him here as an excuse to post his wife’s pics. Then, it’s understandable.)

  2. Joe Says:

    Matt:

First, of course, it was a chance to post a photo of Carmella! 🙂

Second, who do you trust to better move an offense downfield?

    Josh Johnson.

    Rudy Carpenter.

    Jevan Snead.

    Jeff Garcia.

  3. Not a Rocket Surgeon Says:

lol – JimBuc is now famous… (or is it infamous?)

  4. Mauha Deeb Says:

@Not a Rocket Surgeon: Oh NaRS, INfamous is when you’re more than famous. This man, Jimbuc, is not just famous he’s INfamous.

  5. thomas Says:

Great job, Joe! Capturing how POLAR EXTREME Jimbuc’s fanatacism really is.

We all know that even he doesnt really believe the ridiculous pro-Glazer rhetoric he shares daily!

  6. JimBuc Says:

Mauha Deeb — gotta love the Three Amigos reference. Always goog to be INfamous like El Guapo.

Joe — for the record, I don’t see Morris raising a trophy (at least not this year).

We would have better luck with Garcia’s wife. She has a stronger arm.

  7. MichiganBucsFan Says:

@Matt your completely right. Would Garcia even sign with a team that he knows isn’t going to give him a chance to start?

  8. Joe Says:

If Al Davis cut Garcia, can’t really imagine there’s any team out there that would give Garcia a chance to start. Maybe Seattle? Off the top of Joe’s head, he cannot think of any team that desperate at quarterback to offer Garcia a chance to start. Jacksonville perhaps? There are scant teams that need Garcia as a starter.

  9. oar Says:

“for the record, I don’t see Morris raising a trophy (at least not this year).” Why do you see a plethora of thorphies? You know like pinatas, filled with little surprises!

  10. oar Says:

I thought Garcia asked to be released from Oakland? I also read he saw to many non-committed players on that team. And didn’t he sign with the Eagles as McNabb’s back-up, before he signed with us?

  11. JimBuc Says:

More Three Amigos references! Wow! “Jefe, could it be that with your superior intellect . . . .”

  12. eric Says:

I view it as a “what have you got to lose” situation. If, and I said if, Garcia would totally committ to a backup situation and play nice, he would be a servicable backup and would be good for Mr. Freeman’s development.

Say what you want about Jeff, but I still remember him bleeding during that last Oakland game, and taking hit after hit for the two seasons he was here. Dude is tough as nails, and old school.

Like Joe, I shudder to think what would happen with an injury to Freeman.

Jimbuc, congrats on your new found fame!

  13. bucfanjeff Says:

Joe, this article is beyond bullsh!t. Garcia is washed up and has been. Let us not forget how he goes maverick on every play and has a noodle arm.

You are REACHING for news. Be ashamed.

  14. admin Says:

    Joe here,

bucfanjeff – A backup’s job is to win games and maintain leadership on offense. And he doesn’t have to be part of the Bucs “lasting contender” plan, if one wants to play along with that game. It’s not in the job description. …You need a game or two in 2010. You want Josh Johnson in there or Jeff Garcia?

  15. RustyRhino Says:

WE had how many years with Garcia as the ” QB ” here?
What again did he have, that we would want back again? Calling his own plays, running at the snap of the ball, wide open receivers deep and never able to hit them or any passes past 25 – 30 yards(being generous).. And he does want to be the Starter.

For me i say NO THANK YOU!!! We don’t need a weak runner with a noodle arm….. Photos of his wife now and then are great but him back in the pewter fold, NO!!!!

  16. Matt Says:

@Joe As part of the 2010-2012 Bucs, a backup’s job is to not question that Freeman is absolutely the #1 guy.

Jeff Garcia is ill-equipped to be that guy, end of story.

  17. bucfanlostiniowa Says:

I like jeff but I don’t see him returning to the Bucs anytime soon. Bulger was out there and would have been a good backup but we are in a youth movement I forgot just say no to free agency right.

  18. eric Says:

Is that the same Jeff Garcia that had 25 touchdown pases vs. 10 interceptions, over 60% completion percentage, and QB rating of 94.6 while playing two seasons for the bucs?

    That Jeff Garcia?

And the NFC South Title in 07, and selected as a pro bowler, and winning record while here? The one that hooked up with that crappy AB for over 1200 yards? And with Galloway for over 1000?

Geez, the way you guys re-write history is rediculous, just to make the current idiots look palatable.

  19. Not a Rocket Surgeon Says:

    An old(er) Jeff Garcia?

    No. thank. you.

    I’d rather go with youth…

  20. Louie the HATER! Says:

Is that the same Jeff Garcia who had 2 WINNING seasons?

I’m not advocating the Bucs sign him, I’m just pointing out that Jeff wasn’t all that bad to the “HATERS”.

  21. Louie the HATER! Says:

…plus he has a smoking hot wife!

  22. eric Says:

Since werre going 2-14, why not have the smokin hot wife around?

  23. RustyRhino Says:

Yeah 07’s 9-7 division was nice but his 187.5 yards per game average and overall average yards per game of his 2 years here of 206.5 not that impressive… 5152 yards in two years is okay… but then again he did not play in a few games as i recall something about a calf injury when he wanted more $…

    Hey Joe,
You wrote: “First, of course, it was a chance to post a photo of Carmella! ”
You got so excited about the idea of bringing Jeff back that you forgot to post the photo of Carmella! I think you’re slippin’ Joe.

  25. RustyRhino Says:

Was he selected to the Pro Bowl? or was he a alternate? No matter really, he was representing the Bucs at the Pro Bowl… true enough

You don’t see a picture of Carmella???

  28. bucfanjeff Says:

Joe, to answer your question, I’ll take Josh Johnson over Garcia.

  29. Patrick Says:

What is the big freaking deal about bringing Garcia here???!!! It’s for a damn “backup” role, so how does it kill Raheem’s “youth movement”?? Man, you people have been brainwashed by the idiots in charge of the organization.

Plus, you never know how Freeman is going to turn out. If he’s a bust or starts playing bad, we can put Garcia in.

  30. Not a Rocket Surgeon Says:

Jeff Garcia will be 41 in February.

“…There can only be one…” Favre.

    🙂

  31. DieHard Bob Says:

@ Joe: You don’t see a picture of Carmella???

Sorry Joe, the photo is not showing on my screen! I got an empty white box. Must be a bad link.

  32. Joe Says:

:0 Right click on the “white box” and select “Show picture.”

It’s grayed out. This happens from time to time. Sometimes the photo will show up at a later time.

  34. eric Says:

Make Carmella the head coach (no pun intended), and no blackouts would occurr.

  35. RahDomDaBest Says:

JimBuc is delusional. False hope Jimbo, false hope.

Eric — At the risk of being Capt. Obvious, the answer is “NO” This is 2010. Maybe in Eric-land people don’t age???

  37. JimBuc Says:

I think we should bring back Garcia and have him throw to Galloway and Hilliard and bring Leroy Selmon back (I mean how many tackles did that guy have?) and put Lynch back at Safety . . .

    Get a freakin grip . . .

  38. eric Says:

    JImbuc,

Nobody is advocating bringing Garcia in as a starter. I was merely responding to another commenter who was dissing Garcia for his play in 07, 08.

I thought it needed a little balance to point out evidence of some pretty good play while he was here, thats all.

IMO, he played pretty darn well.

Is he the same player now, nope. But he might be a good back-up and help Josh.

Remember Earl Morrlll? Vinny Testaverde? Blanda? Favre?

  39. bucfanjeff Says:

The only thing Garcia has going for him is a smokin’ hot wife, THAT – should be easy to agree upon.

  40. Pete Dutcher Says:

I would love to see Garcia here as a backup, but I think it’s unrealistic to think the Bucs will permit it, Joe. They did, afterall, make a statement by not renewing his contract when he left.

I realize they brought Griese back, but that experiement was a dismal failure. I doubt they will risk it again.

Besides, although I think Garcia would be willing to play backup at this point, I also do not think the Bucs want a backup that could possibly look better than Freeman.

  41. BigMacAttack Says:

    Little Carmelita is so Hot.

I thought that was the point of the article. It’s all about her and not the D-Bag she married. If I could just get a little tongue and groove action going with her now that would be alright. We need Jeff Garcia as an Asst Alternate Happy Feetish Quarter Back Consultant so we can get Carm back. I loved seeing her in the mornings on Fox before the away games. She was an awesome analyst. I would analyze her every which way I could.

  42. BigMacAttack Says:

JimBuc needs to have a weekly column here called the “Joe Spin Zone” because he is the Master of Spin.

Or call it “Sit on it and Spin, with JimBuc”

  43. RahDomDaBest Says:

“Sit on it and Spin, with JimBuc”

LMAO… that’s more like it, because he is actually pretty terrible at convincing anyone. More of a whiner.

And for you Garcia haters… which doesn’t make any sense… why would someone hate a player in the first place? Anyway, when will Freeman throw for 25 TDs? Dude is far from proven. Josh Campbell has proven himself more than Freeman… and that ain’t sayin much.

I really hope Freeman pans out though. But as far as Garcia, never forget his wins he brought us. Never forget Galloway stretching the field. Never forget Antonio Bryant and his accrobatic catches.

You guys need to stop hatin on the players. afterall, it’s the Glazers who are making all the poor decisions.

  44. eric Says:

The reason for the dissing on guys like Garcia, Galloway, AB, etc. is that the only way to justify the current plan, is to believe that the bucs sucked in 07, 08, to the point that they had to be totally stripped, and “rebuilt” exclusively through the draft.

Therefore, any player that played during that period automatically “sucked”, as did the team. Therefore, things will be so much better with the new “plan”. Plan supporters are very, very sensitive.

Thats why no credit is given for the Division titles in 05, 07, and the winning seasons in 05, 07, 08.

Its all a justification thing. Thats why they take shots at Buc players you would think everyone would like and respect. Jeff is a good example. Brooks is another.

  45. Bucnjim Says:

I don’t think anyone is hating on the players. All of these guys had great (or at least very good careers). I really liked Garcia because he was tough as hell and could manage a game from start to finish. Galloway was one of the fastest players I had ever seen minus Barry Sanders in the Big Sombrerro.Brooks speaks for himself; future HOF. The problem is or was that all these guys were at the end of their careers. It is never pretty when it is time to call it quits. We will all have to face these same situations; just further along in our lives. These players are fortunate enough to have time to start another career or retire and enjoy life.

  46. eric Says:

    Bucnjim,

Well if you look at the posts they tell a different story. Noodle arm, happy feet, wife had better arm, running at the snap, never hitting passes over 25-30 yards, blah blah, blah.

Similar remarks, made against current bucs or the coaching staff, would be quickly labled “hateful”. (except as to Clayton, everybody hates him).

  47. JimBuc Says:

Jeff Garcia played well, but he has never ha the reputation as a helpful clipboard holder. That is not Jeff Garcia.

Eric, I was not trashing any of those guys, I was trashing the notion that we would bring them back. Every person we are talking about is OUT OF THE LEAGUE. That’s why it was funny. It’s like you live in an alternate universe

  48. MichiganBucsFan Says:

eh, Barry Sanders wasn’t that “fast”. He was super lightning quick, but he didn’t have the fastest top end speed of all the guys on the field, he used to get caught on breakaways often…

  49. eric Says:

    Jimbuc,

You were trashing the guy, as were the others.

But thats ok, September is fast approaching, and the grand plan continues. Slowly building toward the dynasty.

  50. Edwardnewjersey Says:

Jeff Garcia is a winner. End of story.
