Seems Like Winslow’s Healthy Enough To Show

June 11th, 2010

Joe’s glad to hear Kellen Winslow is feeling good after his routine maintenance knee surgery this offseason.

But on the other hand, it doesn’t sit well with Joe to know Winslow is chilling somewhere in California when his teammates are sweating their butts off in Tampa.

Responding to a question from the media hounds yesterday, Raheem The Dream went out of his way to talk about how hard Winslow is working — on his own.

“He’s getting back. He’s going fast. He’s training. He’s doing a bunch of things,” Raheem The Dream said. “He sends me a bunch of notes. He’s in constant communication with Todd, our trainer. He’s in constant communication with his coach, Alfredo Roberts. And we hope to see him soon as well, too.”

Joe gets that Winslow is fragile and OTAs are voluntary. But it’s still weak that he’s 3,000 miles from his team.

Either you’re 100 percent committed or you’re not.

His contract was for 3 yrs, the 3rd year being a club option with the ability to just walk away – no money strings attached. He’s a talent, but if he doesn’t put up solid numbers again for whatever reason, I think the FO thinks long and hard about year 3.

Every year every tema goes through this: guys not showing up. Usually it is some vets. It bothers me too, but it happens ALL THE TIME and it does not seem to affect teams much so I am going to try to not care about it anymore.

When training camp rolls around and someone holds out of there for one reason or another, then that seems to be a bigger problem.

On another note: These guys make ALOT of money playing a game. Why can’t they make all these practices mandatory? I understand the CBA

Talk abouta writers bias…Ward has a toothache and doesn’t show up and Joe acts like it’s the end of the world. But Sgt. Winslow stays home in Califonia and it’s no big deal???? What gives?

    Maybe someone has a favorite?

K2 has a bum leg. He cant practice year round, for one reason he needs a knee surgery every offseason. It doesnt matter much that he isnt here now.

Who is going to coach him annyway? He is probably more qualified to coach this team than the present clowns.

the absolute last of this teams probs is k2 missing otas.

K2 has never been what you would call the consumate team player. Way to much of a diva. Mariah Carey anyone?

UMMM I was under the impression Kellen Winslow JR. signed a 6-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last off-season.

  7. Bucs1Fan Says:

Not worried about it. When he’s here he shows up to play. He was our ONLY bright spot last year. Get better K2, we need ya this season buddy!

  8. BigMacAttack Says:

It’s less reps with Freeman, but they had good chemistry before and this OTA time helps the other receivers get better, especially the rookies. I like K2, he has been a definite bright spot.

  9. Radio Mushmouth Says:

Winslow has NEVER come into camp out of shape , and anyone who has seen his off-season work-outs knows he works as hard as anyone on the team. He knows the offense , and training camp is plenty of time for him and Freeman to get thier timing .

Worry about something revelant ,Joe, like the “Twitterer in Waiting” getting injured before the pads even go on…

  10. Mr. Lucky Says:

Me thinks Joe has a crush on Lady Winslow vs. the Kardashian gal.

Sounds like a poll to me!

  11. Patrick Says:

Big deal!!! He’s missing OTA’s. Seems like when it happens to the Buccaneers, it’s such a bad thing! But with other teams, it’s not such a big deal. He’s the best and only proven player on our offense, so be happy he’s here.

  12. mookie Says:

I love K2 and I love the coaches and I love Freeman and McCoy and Stylez. I heart everyone. I’m so optimistic and happy and I didn’t even eat paint chips as a child.

  13. lightningbuc Says:

Haven’t you all heard? Winslow is a soldier fighting in that war in California.

  14. Eric Says:

I don’t think his missing OTA’s harms his play, but there is something to be said for practicing with the rookies and building a team bond. Having an experience and excellent player like K-2 around could only help them.

Remember Sapp strongly recommending to McCoy to move to Tampa and live here in the offseason?

He also has said that the 2003 bucs fell off because they no longer hung out together and lost the team unity.

  15. RustyRhino Says:

    Yeah Eric
team mates need to know where you are as you train not where you might be when your here.
Dave I like the thought of it being mandatory for OTA’s as well

One way of looking at it is that it gives our other TE more reps in practice, i like Mastrud he has played with Freeman before and is a big good speed, good hands TE who has some blocking in him. Able to catch and be able to block well lets give him plenty of practice reps.

  16. Radio Mushmouth Says:

Sapp would also come into camp fat and out of shape sometimes , and his numbers would be down the years that he did , so Sapp is not exactly in the strongest position to be preaching about offseason commitment….
