Mark Dominik Breathing Easy These Days

June 16th, 2010

Bucs general manager Mark Dominik can afford to relax with training camp roughly six weeks away.

Weeks after a draft that by all paper accounts looks to be successful, and is subsequently turning  him into a rock star, with various local and national media outlets offering him a forum to crow about his draft — deservedly so — Dominik has every right to kick back at a local beachside resort, recline in a beach chair and admire the (ahem) scenery while relishing a cold, adult beverage.

But it’s not just the draft that has Dominik resting comfortably. The way Washington Redskins defensive tackle/petulant child Facestomper Haynesworth has been acting, indirectly, is making Dominik smarter by the hour.

Remember last offseason Dominik came this close to signing Facestomper, who was a free agent. Instead, Facestomper went to Washington where he meandered through an injury-riddled season.

Now with Super Bowl-winning coach Mike Shanahan on board and the Redskins moving to a 34-defensive front, Facestomper is sulking and pouting and carrying on worse than Joe if DirecTV dropped the NFL Network.

Facestomper is so outraged, that little more than a year after he signed a guaranteed contract for $40 million, in a time when Americans are struggling to make mortgage payments much less being able to hold onto their job, any job, Facestomper is demanding to be traded unless the Redskins play a 43- front and will not report to any Redskins offseason activity.

So insulted is Mike Florio, the creator, curator and overall guru of ProFootballTalk.com, he has gone so far as to label Facestomper as “a turd,” which in the Florio-venacular, is as low as you go.

It seems even those NFL types associated with Facestomper are sick of him. Consider the text messages about Facestomper that BSPN NFL insider Adam Schefter documented last night on Twitter.

@Adam_Schefter:  Texts on Albert from NFL people “You can’t fix a bad guy”…”He is a total JERK!”…”Hope media go to town with this one and tear him up.”

The shame of this is, good guys looking for a warranted salary bump like Bucs left tackle Donald Penn, among others, get lumped into the same pile of dung as glorified bowel movements like Facestomper, which is terribly unfair.

No, it’s not fair. And if Joe were Penn, he’d really want to take a football cleat to Facestomper’s grill.

What would have happened if Dominik was successful in signing Facestomper last year? Now there’s no way of predicting that Facestomper would have demanded a trade from the Bucs already.

But Joe is guessing that Dominik is really glad to know he will never have to find out the answer to that riddle.

Keep on keeping , Mark! We are headed in the right direction.
Next year, we’ll be saying how glad we are, that we didn’t sign the Douche formerly known as Brandon Marshal. Someday the Bucs fans will realize, if a team is dying ta get rid of a player that has obvious football skills, there is a damn good reason!! It’s the LAST resort, because good players . .brrrtt. . Keep yer ass from getting fired! Unless they are turfs, then they getcha fired even quicker!

  2. Capt.Tim Says:

Damn my spellcheck for deleting “turd”

  3. Eric Says:

How is it that Dom looks smart because of Haynesworth?

Because he tried to sign the guy and failed?

    Illogical.

Lucky perhaps, but not smart, at least not in regards to Fat Albert. As to the draft, time will tell. Looks vey good on paper.

  4. BigMacAttack Says:

I don’t see where one thing (Fat Albert) has anything to do with the other thing (Fat Donald). Penn needed to lose a lot more than 35 lbs of fat, which he reported having done 2 or 3 months ago. What has he done since then? Same weight? I’d like to see a picture. Still a good LT is Penn.

  5. JimBuc Says:

Eric — you’re response is funny. What was the reason that Dom did not get Fat Albert? Guaranteed Money. It’s not like Dom was just outbid, he was unwilling to give Fat Albert the guaranteed money, presumably for this very reason.

The Redskins are idiots. The Fat Albert deal is only further proof. And yes, there are some here — lightningbug comes to mind — who want the Glazers to spend like Snyder to show their “committment to winning, even though Snyder has won NOTHING.

  6. JimBuc Says:

Ooop “your” — worlds worst typer

  7. BamBamBuc Says:

Haynesworth and Penn are two completely different situations. Fat Albert had the power of being and UNrestricted free agent and got the ludicrous deal that he did. Just like Julius Peppers this year, even though he’s on the downward side of his career.

Penn deserves to be paid, but he’s in the unfortunate position (due to the CBA) of being a restricted free agent. Amazing how two little letters “UN” can change the scope of things. If Penn were UNrestricted, he would have gotten his payday.

Get the CBA done and many players will be living higher on the hog than they are now.

    What a scumbag.

Complains about the role he thinks he’ll play in the new defense.
    Skips every OTA.
Shanahan expresses his displeasure and lets him seek a trade, he doesn’t.
Waits til his massive $21mil roster bonus kicks in, then all of the sudden wants a trade.

  9. Capt.Tim Says:

    Eric
Jeez, some of the B.S. I gotta clear up around here! How do you walk around without hurting yourselves??
How is the The Fat Albert signing different? It’s not, if you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about!!
The Bucs(Dominick) offered Fat Albert MORE money than Washington!!
So why did the tubby one sign with the ‘Skins?
Incentive Money!! The contract the Bucs(Dominick) offered was laden with incentive clauses. He recieved bonus money for playing 65% of the defensive snaps. More if he played 75%+. he recieved bonus money if he was in top three DL on tackles. Even more if he led the DL in tackles. Money for sacks, money for tackles for loss, money for attending off season team workouts, etc, etc.
THAT Is how you motivate notoriously lazy players to get off their Butts and work. You have them (gulp!) EARN their money. Tons of NFL players have incentive clauses in their contracts!! Same reason
The ‘Skins had virtually no incentive clauses in their contract for one hundred million. Fat Albert signed, then pretty much took the year off to celebrate!!! Now, he’s pretty much decided not to attend

  10. Capt.Tim Says:

    (continued)
-training camp, under the guise of protesting the teams switch to a 3/4. Really ,he has got the money.now he doesn’t wanna play.
    THAT’s the big difference

  11. RustyRhino Says:

Never wanted us to get Haynesworth and glad that the deal never got done. I recall everyone starting the Glazers are Broke Have NO commitment to the team, ect. ect. ect. But what if we had signed him and he was still not wanting to be happy to go to work to earn his pay? Joe’s and other blogs would be even more full that they are now.

Penn is a good LT one of the best we have had here in a long time.. But he needs to be here working out with the team, sign the tender make the pittance of only 3 Million this season go out and do his thing!
Myself being from Missouri the “Show Me” state, i want to see how much weight he has lost how much Stronger,Faster,Quicker he is in our Offense.

You know i still wonder what will it be like if Penn is like Haynesworth, NOT saying that he is, Just what will the grumblings be if he is a ME person!! Bad GM?? Bad Coach?? Or just BAD ATTITUDE?? Lets hope not, come aboard Penn. Lets get ready to Battle!!! together

  12. Eric Says:

DOm offered a huge contract to a guy who aint playing up to his previous level?

How does that equate to Dom being smart? Or, is he simply less stupid than the Skins?

If he had tried to trade up for Jamarcus Russel, but failed, would that also make him smart?

The whole premise of this post makes no sense at all.

  13. Capt.Tim Says:

    Dear Eric
I’m really sorry. It makes sense . .
Just not to you. It’s cause yer a Lil Slow. .
Sorry again, but sometimes it’s better to here it from a stranger.

  14. JimBuc Says:

Eric is not slow, he is angry

  15. Dave Says:

Think it’s just Joe being sarcastic here pointing out that Dominik really wanted this guy who turned out to be a raging loser.

  16. Capt.Tim Says:

And Dave, taking Eric by the hand, joins him in the slow lane.

  17. Sgt Mike Says:

Fat Albert is so toxic around here in D.C. that I think most of the Redskins fans have contracted some kind of “Whining/ Vomitting Disease”. Lavar Arrington goes off on a tangent at least once a day on how Fat Albert is a shitbag, rightfully so. I am so glad we did not get this idiot. He probably would have killed the whole organization he is so Toxic. Rah & Dom would have better chances surviving a shark attack than surviving this dude. Charge that one up to a good loss for the Bucs organization. Go Bucs!
