A Coach On The Field

June 9th, 2010

One thing Joe’s going to miss when cornerback Ronde Barber leaves the Bucs, likely after this season, is his smarts on the field.

Many thought Barber couldn’t play in the heinous stunt that was the Jim Bates Experiment because he is supposed to be too old and a system player (ahem).

What really happened? Barber played solid, not like some guy who was in the waning days of his career.

Newly minted Twitter madman and former Bucs secondary coach Herm Edwards believes Barber is his clone. Asked on Twitter what player is his double, Edwards didn’t hesitate.

@e_man: What current player reminds them of you? If any?

@HermEdwardsESPN: Ronde Barber

Of course, Joe will always remember how Ronde Barber terrorized quarterbacks whether it’s with interceptions or sacks. Joe wonders if Donovan McNabb still has nightmares over Barber?

    Well I am glad that someone thinks that we have a coach on the field.

    Too bad we dont have one on the sideline.

    According to ProFootballFocus.com, Ronde did horribly(-9.8). To give some perspective at solid play Champ Bailey got a +8.9, while Darrelle Revis received a +28.5. Talib only got a +3.1. In fact, even Tanard didn’t do so well according to there metrics. The only two on D who did anything were Geno Hayes(+9.1) and Stylez White who was top 5 in his position last year according to them. Not sure how accurate these metrics are but they seem pretty good from the first look or two.

    @thomas: no kidding!

    @joe
    Surely you are talking about years past, and not last year when it comes to Barber? And Herm Edwards opinion counts, where? KC, or the Jets? He was the biggest Dungy prodigy Flop ever! I am glad Edwards is in the Media now. Because he certainly doesn’t need to be coaching. Then again, we have Raheem the Dream, so what am I saying…..

    SHOCKING — Thomas is the first to post, its a negative post, and its not even about the article, but instead an ad hom attack on Morris.

    Thomas you might want to seek professional help.

  6. JimBuc Says:

    Actually, even MORE SHOCKING. Three of the four posts — all negative — posted by the three amigos. Thomas blasts Morris (article is about Barber), Louie blast Morris (through Thomas) and Tampa2, who thinks the Glazers are Madoff co-conspirators, blasts both Edwards and Morris (article about Barber).

    Maybe you could get a group rate on therapy

    If I am ever having a tough day, I just think back to Mr. Barber running back that INT in Philly………………….bucs sideline going nuts………….

    sighhhhhhh………………..its also a little sad, given how far we have fallen.

  8. JimBuc Says:

    Eric, arguably the best play in Buc history. Chin up Eric, chin up.

    Jimbuc:

    I am shocked that you agree that the Barber pick was the greatest “play” in Buc history. I thought that you were going to say that it was Raheem’s hiring – since the future is so bright. Or maybe the day the very financially strong Glazers acquired Manu which hasnt hurt but in your opinion helped them financially and the non-existent spending on players is some brilliant plan to actually make the team better.

    Whenever you are feeling blue Jimbuc, just stare at your bedroom posters of Dom and Rah and imagine the 4 wins that they are going to lead this team to next year – we know you think that is real progress.

  10. JimBuc Says:

    Thomas — the best response to you in no response. Better to just let your drivel sit there for all to see. Put down the axe and go take your meds.

  11. Patrick Says:

    Here’s to another pro bowl season for Barber in 2010!! Come on Ronde you can do it dude!!!!!

  12. oar Says:

    JimBuc, Are you the blog-post monitor? Or the comment guardian or something? Why do you feel the need blast everyone and THIER opinions, when they are not the same as yours? I for one like a little humor, whether negative or positive in light of. Relax and don’t respond/comment about them everytime(you won’t change any minds unless you’re Obi One Kenobi), which btw is something you seem to add to your posts, but you still do.

  13. Gary Says:

    6-7 wins for sure, Rah and the team will be better this year, they have the potential. Then can we have posters on our bedroom walls of Morris/Dom Thomas?
