Leftwich Probably Visited The Weight Room

May 19th, 2010
This picture of Byron Leftwich from Steelers minicamp seems to blow a big hole in the insider wisdom shard by Bucs beat writer Rick Stroud.

Joe quickly cried foul when The Mad Twitterer took to the WDAE-AM 620 airwaves in February to announce that Byron Leftwich wouldn’t go hit the gym with Josh Freeman, therefore Leftwich wasn’t wanted as a Buccaneer.

It was especially curious to Joe since The Mad Twitterer, aka St. Pete Times Bucs beat writer Rick Stroud, didn’t write about this tidbit for his employer.

“The one thing I’ll say about Freeman, He’s willing to work,” Rick Stroud said. “And that’s the biggest thing in this league at that position. He’ll come in there at 6 o’clock in the morning. Now they’ve got to find him a veteran quarterback who will go with him. That’s why Leftwich probably won’t be back, because he’s not that guy. What’s funny is, the guy that would do it is [Luke] McCown and they traded him. He’s the kind of guy that will be in the weight room, be in the meeting rooms, take his role. …Bryon was great. He’d could talk to you like Dr. Phil, but you were never going to get him in the weight room.”

The above photo makes it seem pretty obvious that Leftwich has been in the weight room and on the treadmill since allegedly injuring his elbow last year.

Was the Mad Twitterer just hurling BS around? Were the Bucs coaches just unable to motivate Leftwich from Day 1?

Joe’s not sure. And Joe’s not sure it matters. Joe only brings this up to shine some light on the media, which should always be held accountable.

    Well said

A better question would be, is Bruce Arians’ nickname for Byron Leftwich “Sluggo” also? Or, just what nickname does he have in
    Steel Town?

I for one like when Joe does this kind of stuff. THose writers put everything out there as gospel and love to tour the TV and radio media to pump themselves up. Never change Joe

  4. Joe Says:

You are welcome Dave, thanks for the compliment.

    Who cares? Really.

    Joe here,

bucfanjeff – Joe can give you an exact number. Joe’s just hoping that of the 5,000 or 6,000 that come here today, at least a dozen or so will care. 🙂

Joe just finds it more than curious that hateful Bucs fans so wanted to throw Byron Leftwich to the wolves, that he wasn’t good enough to back up Josh Freeman, is seen by one of the NFL’s elite teams as good enough to start on a squad that has real and valid aspirations of a(nother) Super Bowl run.

Yet Leftwich isn’t good enough to sit on a bench at the CITS? Odd.

Lefty did not look like that the last few years.

My guess is being let go of a 3-13 team was a little bit of a wake call if he wants to keep playing in this league. the reason is because I have heard elsewhere that he was not the most disciplined guy in the gym or in film study.

anybody notice that that pic is almost identical to the fake Freeman on the cover of that Madden game….who says he didnt teach Freeman anything.

    Play for the Steelers.

    Play for the Bucs.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm wonder why the man wasn’t all fired up about being here? I just cannot imagine.

This is a silly subject. I think several team reps said that Leftwich was a great locker room guy but he was not a work around the clock guy. What’s the big deal?

  12. Radio Mushmouth Says:

Josh Johnson is better than Sluggo ….plus , our starting QB didn’t go out and rape someone this offseason.

That pretty much explains why we don’t need Sluggo and the Steelers do…

  13. Jorge Says:

Joe what is up bro? Not like i care about Stroud, but, did that dude piss in your caybrew? Did he spread lies about you to R. Watson?

Much of the local media are honks, but this guy really gets to you, LOL…

    Jorge:

Joe really has nothing against the Mad Twitterer, so long as he doesn’t spread agent-driven speculation about the Bucs going after Marvin Harrison (among other things), then wagging his fingers at others for believing him.

As always, Joe is just a messenger.
