Your Newest Buccaneer: Gerald McCoy

April 22nd, 2010

Meet your newest Bucs player Bucs fans, defensive tackle Gerald McCoy.

Now can the kid live up to the expectations?

The Bucs needed a defensive tackle terribly. What’s next?

Should the Bucs trade up from the second round into tonight’s first round to grab a wide receiver?

If McCoy can do three-quarters for the franchise that Warren Sapp did, it will be a fine draft pick indeed.

  2. Pruritis Ani Says:

    Finally some good news. I think he’s the type of player that can come in and make an immediate impact.

  3. thomas Says:

    Great! we added a player w/ a whopping 32 tackles against big 12 o-lineman. how many will he have against nfl lineman?

  4. Cannon Says:

    No suprises here.

  5. Jared Says:

    @thomas

    it doesn’t matter how many tackles he has. If he disrupts the plays and forces them to someone else, all the better. Film don’t lie.

    welcome home gerald!!!

  7. Jonny Says:

    Very excited to see what this dude can offer for the next decade.

    Mr.WHITE, I am sure you are happy Raheem got the right guy among the two.

  8. Tom Says:

    I like Gerald. He comes across as a great kid. I’m not as high on him as Mayock and others, but the Bucs HAD to take him. You don’t pass on the potential he brings at his position.

    Good luck Gerald!

  9. zech Says:

    I hope gerald mccoy will be disruptive I doubt it and I don’t see the bucs movin up for a widereciever just don’t see it happenin!

    This guy is the real deal! Great pick. From everything I have read about him he seems down to earth, humble, and ready to play.

    @jared:
    Suh was disruptive as hel- and had 82 tackles (3 times more) twice the sacks and 3 times the hurries in the same conference. And disruption on passing playes is a recorded stat – it is called hurries – suh ad 35 hurries and mccoy had 12.

    How’s is that for being disruptive compared to Suh? (about 1/3 as disruptive)

  12. Patrick Says:

    Great pick! Good character guy, good player. I wish the best for Gerald McCoy.

    Unless we trade up, we currently have the 2nd round pick at #35. Our pick needs be a WR. This is the position we HAVE to address immediately. I like WR Demaryious Thomas from Georgia Tech.

  13. thomas Says:

    as an example against common opponents / same o-line:

    kansas state: suh – 9 tackles 1 sack; mccoy 1 tackle 0 sacks.
    texas: suh 12 tackles 4 sacks; mccoy 3 tackles and 1 sack.
    kansas: suh 9 tackle 1 sack; mccoy 4 tackles 0 sacks;
    baylor: suh 5 tackles 1 sack; mccoy 2 and 1.

    I realize suh was gone and trading down was likely not an option but this kid was not productive except for about 10-12 splash plays during the entire season. I wish that they would have avoided this guy – I hope I am wrong but unfortunately he is very weak upper boddy also which will slow his adjustment.

    GREAT NEWS!

  15. Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

    We did the best we could, with the pick we had.

  16. Radio Mushmouth Says:

    Once again we’re forced to settle for 2nd best.

    This sucks ….Let’s just pray he can manage half of his measley 6 sacks from college, and get us 3. (doubtful)

    Here is what Herm Edwards has to say about the pick

  18. Southside Johhny Says:

    Give the Bucs credit. Some predicted that they would trade down so as not to spend third pick money. But they did what was needed to strengthen the team. Fingers crossed for more good news over the remaining rounds. I’d like to see a receiver next.
