Your Newest Buccaneer: Brian Price

April 23rd, 2010

Raheem The Dream and Mark Dominik are determined to resurrect the Bucs’ defense from the D-line back.

Wow!

With the third pick in the second round tonight the Bucs have taken another manbeast: Brian Price, defensive tackle, out of UCLA. He’s a space-eating gorilla cetainly pegged to fight it out with Roy Miller for the starting nose tackle spot.

It was nice knowing you, Mr. Hovan.

Here’s the scouting report from NFL Draft guru Justin Pawlowski.

Brian Price

6’1’’ – 303 lbs – 5.15
1st – 2nd Round

Why I’m taking him: The first thing I think of when I think of Brian Price is his active hands.  Hand use is huge for the battle between offensive and defensive linemen.  Price has good explosion and strength, while playing with a nastiness about him.  He’s a tough player with excellent awareness.

Why I’m staying away: It’s a little troublesome after Price seemed sluggish and out of shape for his pro day. Price is excellent with his hands but has a limited array of pass rush moves and is not an elite pass rusher.  He also struggles with balance as he tends to lunge on tape.

Impact on the Bucs: For me, Price’s stock seems to be slipping a tad.  He could be a fit for the Bucs at under tackle, but I view him more of a Booger McFarland than a Warren Sapp.  If the Bucs pass on a defensive tackle in the 1st round, Price will be on their radar early in Round 2.

NFL Comparison:   Sedrick Ellis – New Orleans Saints

Joe can’t complain, but did the Bucs really need this guy? Is this a slight on Roy Miller?

If the Bucs don’t draft a receiver with their next pick, Joe will be absolutely stunned.

i dont think this has anything to do with miller i think they are just adressing the d line this year mccoy pirce and miller set up a nice rotation at the dt positions for us. team will not run on us as easy as they did the last couple of years

  2. jake Says:

Wouldnt be surprised if they trade down on the next pick to pick up an additional third.

  3. Eric S Says:

I don’t like the pick at all. They already have McCoy and Miller. They have pressing needs at WR, S and DE and they pick this guy? I don’t get it.

  4. Eric Says:

Makes sense to shore up the D-line, but i would have thought a DE pass rusher would have been more needed.

  5. buccin cane Says:

i like the pick personally. we had a gaping hole of a dline last year now we have an upfield disrupter in in mccoy and a space eater in price and a in between in miller d line should be instantly better. I still think Dom has a trick up his sleeve to get a RFA reciever idk who but i jus think so

  6. Eric Says:

Trade! Here comes Mr. Tate for sure.

  7. Finerdetailz Says:

here come Benn.. woohoo.. go bucs

  8. Jonny Says:

Nice, we got our Booger McFarland (NT) then.

  9. Lakeland Bob Says:

That defensive line is now loaded with beasts. These tackles will make White and Crowder that much better.Mister White has to love these picks.
Keep up the good work bucs.

  10. buccin cane Says:

Jus drafted benn and traded a 5th to oakland to move up 3 spots to do it

  11. Troxell8t8 Says:

I agree, the Bucs must believe with a good inside push the DEs already on the roster are good enough.

  12. Eric Says:

Wow, that means this guy is Brandon Marshall AND Holmes.

  13. Finerdetailz Says:

update already.. I want to read about Benn

  14. Jonny Says:

What the fudge, 5th rounder to move up by 3 spots in 2nd? Didn’t Bucs give up a 5th or 6th to move up by 2 spots in the 1st round last year.

  15. Finerdetailz Says:

a little surprised we traded a 5th being Dominik has put a premium on this years draft.

  16. Finerdetailz Says:

I don’t get the move either. I think Benn would have been there regardless.

  17. Troxell8t8 Says:

uh oh, the vaunted 5th round selection was used for Benn. Back to Price, considering the last year and half the Bucs have been trucked up the middle by the likes of Carolina, reinforcements at the DT are not a bad thing.

  18. Eric S Says:

Trading the pick makes no sense at all. Mark D overthinking once again. Miami wasn’t going to pick a WR and Buff didn’t either. The guy wouldn’t trade a pick no matter what and now he trades one for no reason. Perfect.

  19. justin F Says:

i love the pick but giving up a 5th for 3 spots is dumb give up some of the 7th rounder

  20. Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

I like the pick, but not giving up a pick to get it. I am glad to see Mark trying to rebuild our D Line, instead of giving in to pressure to draft a receiver.
This guy is a good pick, but would rather have seen us take Terrence Cody instead.

  21. Foghorn Leghorn Says:

I sure say they thinking, I say, I say they thinking ‘dem boys from that Kitty Kat team in the south ain’t runnin’ like fools again. Ya hearin’ what I’m preachin’to ya son?!

  22. RED MAN Says:

Clausen to panthers…can’t wait for McCoy & Price to rip him in half….GO BUCS

  23. Jonny Says:

Now I like the fact that we picked Price too. We need one good DE or a CB soon.

  24. Lakeland Bob Says:

Wow-what in the hell were you thinking Mark?

You were doing so well until the brain fart.

You just gave away your 5th round pick.

  25. RahDomDaBest Says:

    I love the second DT… That’s what I wanted.

But My God, why trade a mother f—–n 5th round pick to move up when you cold have waited for Golden Tate worse case??????? My God that was stupid.

The scouting report on this 4.56 WR is he will be a decent second WR.

Whatever, I’m happy with the defensive picks… But I think we need to start drafting DB and LB help…

  26. Radio Mushmouth Says:

what do you mean goodbye Hovan?? Both of these players are Undertackles…If you try and put one of them at the nose and you can kiss OUR asses goodbye.

My god , I can’t believe all the good players that were on the board , and all the holes we have to fill, and we screwed it up again. Now we have a 2nd rounder who is going to be sitting on his ass behind McCoy FOREVER.

    What a waste !!!!!!

    God damn morons!!

  27. RahDomDaBest Says:

They drafted the second DT to play alongside McCoy regardless… But I was thinking of using the 2nd second on Mt Cody and put him in the middle at NT…. Although, Cody might have weight problems his whole career… So to be honest, I’m happy… Raheem and co drafted this guy to rotate in and he will play with McCoy, not be a backup.

But you don’t trade a 5th to move 3 spots in the 2nd to draft a WR that would have been there at 42… Else get a safety or Golden Tate…

    Dumb, dumb, dumb.

  28. Patrick Says:

We spend our first second rounder on a guy that’s going to be rotating!!! Hovan is a decent backup behind Miller!! Worry about our starters before you worry about depth Raheem.

  29. Radio Mushmouth Says:

Agreed patrick….we can’t afford to be drafting a rotation player with the 35 overall pick in the draft. That’s basically another 1st round choice you are spending on a back-up . What a waste!

We have too many holes !!

My god DUmbinik is a f*cking idiot !!!

  30. Eric Says:

How many Hall of Famers have we selected? Ive lost count.

  31. gotbbucs Says:

Wow, bitch much people? Our D-Line was absolutely horrible so we drafted the two highest guys on our boards to fix it and all anybody can do is bitch about it. Unbelievable.
