Peter King Wants Bucs To Trade Down

April 23rd, 2010

Yup. A second Peter King post in a day. Joe thinks this may be a record.

King, the vaunted SI.com columnist, wrote a breakdown on what/how he felt every NFL team did thus far in the draft and what they should do tonight and tomorrow in the remaining rounds.

For the Bucs, King believes Mark Dominik should peddle his picks and trade down, stocking up on more picks in the third round and beyond.

I think Tampa Bay, with the third pick today, would be smart to auction it. Gerald McCoy was an easy pick at three. Now the Bucs, with 35 and 42 this evening early in round two, would be smart to add an extra three if they can. This team needs help across the board, not just with two more contributing players early tonight.

Joe thinks the opposite, but understands King’s rationale and agrees the team has many holes to plug.

Remember that Dominik said the draft is so deep, that there are fortysome players that would be only first round picks in most other years. If Dominik has accurate, that means the Bucs can land two more first round-caliber players tonight.

If anything, Joe hopes the Bucs could edge up to secure Notre Dame wide receiver Golden Tate.

If we keep adding picks, we’re going to have a 25% turnover, potentially, on the 53 man roster. That’s not good. I understand the logic, but we need to unload some of these picks too. We need to build on last year, not go younger – again.

If they can stay in the second round with the first pick and pick up an extra third,go for it.We can still get a quality receiver with the 42nd pick. That would give us 4 picks tonite in a rich draft.

I’m pretty sure we can stay where we are and get Tate …but then again you never know who made trade up and jump in front of us.

I say take the risk of staying put , and if you miss out on tate , then try and trade back. If you can’t trade back, take Aerrilous Benn.

I agree with Radio Mush to a T. I really hope we land Tate too Joe. I’m still on McCoy mode today though, I haven’t been this happy since Caddy was drafted. I’m a 90’s Buc fan but wasn’t into watching the draft untill the latter years. When we traded to get Keyshawn is when I became a fan. Anyhow, Tate or Benn would be dope! Is Taylor Mays still on the board?

    Brian Price?

They took another DT??? For god’s sake. I hate hate hate the pick. I wonder if they will pick a WR with their 2nd 2nd round pick.

The Bucs take another DT maybe trying to get Warren to coach a two for one effort. Still have a few needs definitly need secondary help plus a few wideouts. This were free agency can fill your gaps. Look at this way they are trying to shore the run D!!!!!
