Signing Wide Receiver Preston Parker Interesting
April 24th, 2010The signing of former Florida State wide receiver Preston Parker is interesting. He was widely thought to be one of the better players on an otherwise sorry Seminoles offense that slowly came out of hibernation under offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher and quarterback Christian Ponder.
A year ago, Parker, thought to be a star as a senior, who dabbled with weed, was dismissed from the team after his third arrest. In 2007 he was voted Florida State’s offensive MVP.
Last year, he toiled at Division II North Alabama.
Parker is a fleet-footed multipurpose player who can run the ball, catch the ball and return kicks. In other words, he’s a poor man’s Dexter McCluster.
For whatever reasons, his numbers declined in his last year at Florida State. Playing at a Division-II school is pretty much a wash as far as numbers go.
This is a nice little gamble by Bucs general manager Mark Dominik. It’s a virtual no-risk/high reward move.

I’ll take Parker over Clayton right now, no questions asked.

I love it, keep adding potential weapons.

I’m not sure you should take Parker over Clayton Louie, the guy fumbles the ball as often as Clayton drops it.
Parker was certainly a talented kid in the FSU program, trouble is he wasn’t really ascending as a player during his time which speaks to his lack of work ethic.
If you could put Cody Grimm’s intangibles with Preston Parkers natural ability you’d have a top 15 pick. Instead you have a street free agent from a DII school.

Is it just me or is anyone else worried about putting Preston Parker around Tanar jackson?
Just to be sure – if TJ test positive again what’s the next penalty period?

I know nothing about this kid, but I hope he works out for Tampa. Freeman needs receivers who can get open, and hang on to the ball.

Wow…this is a good pickup !!

The 2nd ranked offense in the ACC and 23rd overall was “sorry” huh?
Sorry Joe, but as sorry as the Seminoles were last year, it wasn’t their offense that was losing games.

Ben:
Please reread the post. This was when Preston Parker was with FSU. Parker wasn’t in Tallahassee last year.
And yes, the Seminoles’ defense was beyond horrible last year.
