A Plea To Mark Dominik

April 23rd, 2010

There's no subtle way to put it: Golden Tate must be drafted by the Bucs tonight, among other receivers.

Mark Dominik
General Manager
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
One Buccaneer Place
Tampa, FL 33607

April 23, 2010

Mr. Dominik:

First, Joe wants to thank you and congratulate you and your staff for such tireless work over the past year that led you to select defensive tackle manbeast-in-training Gerald McCoy.

At this point, job well done.

Now, on to tonight.

Unless you haven’t noticed Mark, your team needs receivers. Many receivers. The Bucs have a dire need of receivers. Bucs staffers below you at One Buc Palace have spoken publicly about how the Bucs need to have weapons for your prized franchise quarterback Josh Freeman, a young man quite honestly you may have placed your future on with the Bucs.

Joe believes you can understand the importance of Freeman’s continued development. Joe believes you and your family enjoy living in the Tampa Bay area very much.

For your sake, for your family’s sake, for the hundreds of thousands of Bucs fans’ sake, please, please, please solely concentrate tonight on drafting wide receivers.

Joe isn’t certain why you passed on shipping a throwaway fifth round pick to a young, elite receiver like Santonio Holmes, but Joe is confident you have your reasons.

When the clock strikes midnight tonight, Joe trusts you will have two if not three new wide receivers for Freeman to throw to. Since you drafted McCoy, your team has no more glaring hole than at wide receiver. It’s not even close.

If Joe goes to bed tonight knowing you drafted three receivers, oh, say Golden Tate, Emmanuel Sanders, Arrelious Benn and/or Eric Decker (any combination of three of the four, preferably with Tate), Joe will rest easy.

If you can picture, Joe is kneeling, clasping his hands, begging.

Please draft wide receivers tonight. Please!

As always, Joe thanks you for your time.

Sincerely,

Joe

What if Buffalo offered #40 and Marshawn Lynch for our #35 pick? Do you drop back and have 2 picks in a row + a pro bowl RB?

  2. zech Says:

Amen Joe I will be doin the same thing! I will be on my knees hoping and prayn that the Bucs grab tate and shipley

  3. Eric Says:

Hahahahahah…………….you are one funny dude Joe. Spit my morning coffee out over that one!

As an alternative, Mr. Dom be advised i have a Jamaican voodoo expert, with pins at the ready should you fail to compy wth Mr. Joe’s request.

And even he says we need receivers!

  4. wade Says:

1 pick needs to be a cornerback

  5. zech Says:

I wouldn’t mind going 2a Golden Tate and 2b Cory Wooten the DEnd from Northwestern!

  6. acharlot5 Says:

i think the bucs will go d one of these 2nd round picks.. i think we are going to pick Mike Williams from syracuse with the 3rd round pick just to be sure we get them.. i was hoping we could get back in the first to get dez bryant that would have been great but ill settle for Mike Williams/ Golden Tate/ Andre Roberts/ Damian Williams shit we gotta get one of em

  7. bucfanjeff Says:

    Golden Tate – I agree 110%. With the 3rd pick tonight, it’s a must.
We need Golden Tate more than Joe wants Rachael Watson.

  8. aldo Says:

    2a: Golden Tate (Notredame)
2b: a CB (Cox, Ghee) or S (Nate Allen)—->NEVER IN MY MIND TAYLOR MAYS
    3: Carlton Mitchell (USF)

in other rounds i would love selvie (DE) owusu-ansah (CB) Brandon Graham (OG) Legarrette Bloun (RB) and the punter from michigan (i dont remember his name)

    thats my humble opinion

  9. Mr. KJ Says:

Golden Tate at 2a, Chris Cook at 2b, and Mike Williams at 3. Boom, boom, and boom. I would rest easy tonight if we did something like that, but we deffinitely need to draft at least TWO receivers tonight to help our abysmal pass catching staff and keep Josh Freeman from jumping off the Skyway next year.

  10. CreamsiclePasties Says:

On the notion that we need weapons I couldn’t agree more……just can’t agree that it should be Golden Tate…..the kids an absolute head case….an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty waiting to happen and future “diva.”

I’d rather see Carlton Mitchell & D McCluster……I know they’d be reaches at our current spots, but at this point that doesn’t really bother me

Taylor Mays is going to be tough to pass on, and so would Sergio Kindle. We’re going to see whether or not Dominik knows what he’s doing tonight (McCoy was a no brainer)

  11. zech Says:

Its a no brainer the bucs can’t pass on golden tate

  12. Louie Says:

WR’s yes, Tate no. Notre Dame WR’s (and QBs) have been dudes in recent years. We’ve already got one on the roster now!

  13. Tommy Boy Says:

It’s not a certainty that Tate makes it to us. Rams need WR help too. God I hope we get Tate plus Benn or Williams tonight.

  14. DH Says:

I agree that we need a WR, but CB is our biggest need. We have no one behind Talib and an aging Ronde….

  15. Eric E. In D.C. Says:

    Joe

I don’t see how the Rams Pass on Golden Tate. If they do Dom needs to grab him.

  16. Mr. KJ Says:

CB is our biggest need?! You’re outta your mind! At least we have a perennial pro-bowler starting alongside a potential hall of famer… Who do we have at WR right now?! Two duds and a seventh rounder!

  17. Gary Says:

Shouldn’t we use a WR pic on something a little bigger than Tate? If we pick Tate, we would have 2 short slot reciever types with him and stroughter. I would rather have someone with some size.

  18. Leighroy Says:

Obviously WR has to be addressed with one of the 2 second rounders, but CB or DE has to be made with the other. We can get a second WR in the 3rd or 4th or even later on, but we don’t have to shoot our wad too soon to get our fill on WR’s by taking them with both 2nd rounders.

  19. jeremy Says:

tate, gilyard, shippley, benn all should be in pewter by saturday night but thats me. we need DE’s & DB’s also i dont want to see e mack as much as i did last year

  20. tnew Says:

Not so fast on Tate IMO….seems like more value to be had on defense right now. Kindle doesn’t fit our system but Price, many on this board felt like we should move down and take in the first is an intriguing pick. Put him on the nose and let he and McCoy learn the interior defensive line like Sapp and Culpepper did. That could be fun for years to come. They could really play some games down the road with. That combo up front could make the defense good for 6-7 years. Rotate with Roy Miller and Hovan (for this season on Hovan). Let Stylez and Kyle Moore play and pick up an Defensive End in post draft FA.

I agree on the Mays assessment. Looks to be a Sabby 2.0 to me. Great straight line, blast you if he lines you up, but stiff and lacks the instincts that are needed. For the second pick look at the WR.

Wouldn’t cry a river if we could pick up an additional 3rd and move to later in the second. I’m looking for 2011 and on rather than this season. I would love to see us start winning on defense and allowing Freeman not have to throw more than 30 times a game to win. Throw the zone blocking scheme away and let the o line get back to using their strengths.

  21. tnew Says:

Oh I would tag Damian Williams for my third round pick and Jacoby Ford if he is around in the fourth. Jacoby is a better value Golden Tate. Similar size, much faster but had nobody throwing him the ball…similar to Benn.

  22. zech Says:

Look we need benn or tate and in the 4th round get riley cooper he’s has size and in the 2 nd round 2a tate, benn and 2b wooton, chad jones!

  23. Elijah Says:

You want to be a real site.. That I want to consistently read? Stop talking in fucking 3rd person like Bob Dole.

  24. Bob Fox Says:

In terms of Golden Tate, who I believe is the next best option at WR, the Bucs will nervously watched the Rams select at #33. WR is a big need for the Rams as well, and now that they have Sam Bradford, they need to supply him with weapons. Tate could be one of those weapons. If that happens, the Bucs should look to Arrelious Benn out of Illinois. But Joe is absolutely right, a WR has to be picked tonight.

  25. Bob Fox Says:

Elijah…speaking of Bob Dole, who needs viagra when one has Rachel Watson.

  26. JoeBucsSteveCampbell Says:

I like Tate and don’t like Benn…I fear people like him just because his size. His speed is average, and he’s a poor route runner.

  27. Bucked up Says:

So far so good for Dominik and crew. No reason to think they wont get at least one wr and defensive back to aid Ronde-If nothing else injury is a concern there-he and I aint getting any younger. Tate or Shipley will be just fine. May not be possible to get both unless they can trade up. Go get get em Mark.

  28. Pewter Warthog Says:

I am seeing mock drafts that have us going:
    2A – Everson Griffen
2B – Arrelious Benn (WTF? before Tate?)
    3 – Amari Spievey

    and

    2A – Golden Tate
    2B – Chris Cook

Griffen and Tate would be TREMENDOUS

  29. Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

I agree with Tnew, defense might be a better idea ? Terrence Cody is still there, and so is Price! One MORE Stud defensive lineman to go with McCoy and Miller ? There will be plenty of sleeper receivers in the later rounds, and Dez is gone anyway, why draft a receiver this high ? Tampa was always built around defense, it worked before, and it will work again. I would like to see a Mike Alstott type of power running back taken by us, and a tight end who can really BLOCK in this draft. Man, this draft is very deep, and barring gross incompetence, it is an exciting time to be a Tampa Fan. I can’t wait till the draft starts up again.

  30. JoeBucsSteveCampbell Says:

No way, now how, does Cody fit anywhere in this defense. He’s a 3-4 NT. Period.

  31. Jonny Says:

Tate’s ability to stretch the field is overrated, he builds speed slowly as he gets downfield.

  32. zech Says:

The bucs need a wide out first in the 2nd round because its our 2nd biggest need and tate would be awsome or damian williams and after that they address the D-End with someone like cory wooten the bucs don’t need another USC D-End we already have one so I would go with wooten and then address the cb and then mlb position and then draft a safety and then an o-guard

  33. Eric Says:

You can cut the euphoria with a knife!

  34. Eric S Says:

They have to get a WR in the 2nd. There is no way around that. Tate makes me a little nervous because many people say that he does not consistently get separation on his routes. It will be worse in the pros. There is no doubt that he was productive in college, but that concerns me. I would have made every attempt to get Bryant after he fell. Oh well. Now that would have been a difference maker.

Surprised Joe hasn’t had a post about Gruden saying the dumb ass coaches comment last night. That cracked me up. ESPN was a little off the whole night. They constantly had people talking over each other, commentators weren’t ready for the camera to be on them and they looked unorganized. Not a shining moment for ESPN. This was the 1st round where they should have been the sharpest.

  35. Pewter Warthog Says:

so you wouldn’t draft another DE from USC because we already have one?
that makes A LOT of sense

  36. BigMacAttack Says:

I just want to say that Sarah Palin is so hot. Can we get some Palin pics up here now??? LOL

  37. tampa2 Says:

After eating crow about thinking team Glazer would trade down, I still think they need more defense. Like Cortez Kennedy out of Florida. Then go for Joe’s receivers.

  38. Eric Says:

Man there is an outside shot we could beat Cleveland!

  39. Patrick Says:

We have to get a WR in the 2nd round! Period. Cornerback is NOT our biggest need?!?!?! Besides, all the good one’s were taken in the 1st round last night. Is it going to be disastrous having Barber play another season?!?! Good lord! He’s still got some game left in him people, plus he’s got one year left on his contract.

Who do we have at receiver right now? Huh?!?! Can anyone answer that?!?!

  40. Radio Mushmouth Says:

Tate at 2a and Dunlop at 2b and we are in business !!!

The DE from USC is too small , he’s a better fit for outside LB in a 3-4. Dunlop would be perfect for us because he’s also big enoguh to play some run.

  41. admin Says:

Surprised Joe hasn’t had a post about Gruden saying the dumb ass coaches comment last night.

Joe watches draft coverage on the NFL Network and has been so busy today, he hasn’t gotten around to it.
