Bucs 38, Green Bay 28

November 8th, 2009

The Savior

Damn, if feels awesome to win. Joe’s got the Caybrew flowing!

Amazing that so much of this win falls on the shoulders of 21-year-old Josh Freeman.

Unbelievable!

The Bucs came up big in all facets of the game, yet there’s so much room for improvement. Now that’s encouraging!

Joe’s got his usual powerhouse postgame coverage all day, night and into tomorrow. Check back early and often.

    FREEMAN!

  3. Raheem Says:

I WAS AS SKEPTICAL AS JOE. WHAT A DAY!!!

  4. Louie Says:

Of all the things Morris and Dominik got wrong, it looks like they got it right with Freeman. It’s still early, but the kid just might be the franchise QB we’ve been looking for. I was against them drafting Freeman, but he went a long ways in proving me wrong today.

It feels good to win — kind of like back in ’77! Hopefully they will build on it next week.

  5. Trox Says:

Good job Freeman, showed some real moxy. That 4th down throw to Stroughter was beautiful. Can’t wait to see what happens next week with Freeman.

  6. David Says:

Josh played a great game. The whole team played a great game. And we’re finally 1-7. I couldn’t be happier.

  7. Grundle Says:

  10. Jeff Says:

Joe, I asked you last week what your headliner was going to be if Freeman plays “ok” and pulls out a win. He played better than ok, way better. While it’s only one game, I think you have a lot of retracting to do. You owe us that much.

  11. George C. Costanza Says:

    Wahoo!

  12. PetetheHat Says:

Did you guys watch the same game I did? Freeman did not play a great game, he had great effort and resonable success but the whole team showed a will to win today and the Freeman Era started successfully. He did show a lot more poise than I expected and saw the field very well. I’m enthusiastic too that we may at least have something to loook forward to.

  13. justin Says:

And I won 2000 dollars cause I knew we would not lose by 10

  14. RastaMon Says:

“Did you guys watch the same game I did? Freeman did not play a great game”……of course we did.
    True he didn’t “play a great game”…..
with the exception that for his first start
HE PLAYED a GREAT GAME !
Joe unmercifaly bashed Freeman from the moment his name was called in the draft

  15. admin Says:

    Joe here –

Let’s not rewrite history here, RastaMon, Joe didn’t unmercifully bash Freeman ….Joe bashed THE PICK made by Dominik and Raheem without mercy. Big difference. …Still don’t think it was the right pick. But Joe’s a fan first, and all that doesn’t matter much right now. Would love to be wrong. Been wrong plenty of times before in life.

  16. PetetheHat Says:

Maybe it’s your command of the English language that needs some help RastaMon. “he played a great game but he didn’t play a great game but for his first start he played a great game” Now I’m sure we ALL understand

  17. Raheem Says:

Statistically, Freeman played WELL for his first NFL start, not amazing, WELL. Intangibles, he looked like a leader out there, and exuded confidence beyond his 21 years. For the first time this year i got what i wanted, HOPE and a clear indication of UPWARD progress. The win was just the sweetener, the fantastic sweetener.

He DEFINITELY lofted up a couple of pick 6 balls, that went our way. But he will only get better.

    WHAT A DAY!!!

  18. PetetheHat Says:

    Cheers Raheem! well said

  19. MTM Says:

Don’t get to high on one game. But it definitely looked like a team effort today.

  20. Greg Says:

Eric S., you called it earlier this week that the Packers D wasn’t that good and that the Bucs could do well against them, so I stand corrected–my apologizes!

    Joe relentlessly called Freeman a
    “Bust in Waiting”

  22. Justin Says:

WHAT DID I TELL YOU JOE?????

WE ARE NOT THE DETROIT LIONS. GO BUCCO BRUCE!!!

  23. admin Says:

    Joe here,

    1) Bust in waiting was not a slap at Freeman but a wack at those who picked him….Repeatedly explained why I thought it was the wrong pick, which set up Freeman to be a bust-in-waiting. After all, the “bust” status is based more on where you’re picked rather than how you perform. …

    2) Never compared the Bucs to the Lions in that story, Justin. Just wondered whether Bucs fans would react like Lions fans.

  24. bucsfanlostiniowa Says:

how many members of the freeman bandwagon will jump off after his first bad game?

  25. Buccin Cain Says:

    bucsfanlostiniowa I totally agree

Don’t even try to twist it like that….
    estrogen argument

  27. Pete Says:

Let Freeman sit, Freeman needs to learn, Freeman does not need to see the field this year. Joe’s view for some 160 articles on the subject of Freeman.

The first QB in franchise history I believe to win his first start wearing bucco bruce and the orange.

The throwbacks should return for the saints!

  28. admin Says:

    Joe here,

RastaMon – Not twisting anything. Made it loud and clear back then Freeman was a foolish pick at that spot in the first round. And then the Bucs traded up for him, which made it worse. …Still feel that way. Hope I’m wrong, but still think it was the wrong move at the time.

If the Bucs had traded down for two picks and taken Freeman in the second round, I would have felt al lot more positive about the pick at the time. Wrote that back then.

Freeman will still be viewed as a bust unless he takes the franchise to the playoffs and plays consistently. Based on the odds, he’s still bust-in-waiting.

But it all feels good about now.

  29. Sgt Mike Says:

Freeman played well for a first start. Shaun King did it in 1999 on monday night. They played well for a rookie first start. Let’s see after a few games. I will concede there is hope. Upward progress possibly. He is not the second coming of Joe Montana. Good job Freeman. Go Creamsicles!!

  30. BigMacAttack Says:

It felt good to win. A lot of Packer Fans at the Stadium as usual. They all left unhappy. Today was our turn to leave on a high note. Good crowd. Loud crowd. Much fan support today. Freeman was better than expected and made few mistakes overall. Jim Bates still sucks and this was one of the 3 worst teams we’ve faced thus far. Hopes aren’t too high but a W is W.

  31. Justin Says:

    Joe,

Not trying to give you a hard time–just excited we got the win, and in the Florida Orange jerseys!!!

  32. Matthew Says:

    Joe,

How is the kid a “bust” because we didn’t take him in the second round? The draft is about getting ” your guy” and that’s what the buc’s did. Took the guy they wanted. Also you don’t know if any other team would have taken him before us if we moved down. And for his first start he look good. Made a lot of plays to help us win. Let’s not forget that he playing on a bad football team. That’s roster will be different in the coming years. Give the kid his due and let’s see how he can grow as a Qb. But everything you’ve put up on Josh was wrong. He looked “ready” to me…

  33. admin Says:

    Joe here,

Never wrote that, Matthew. Just making the point that any player is judged as a bust, or not a bust, based on where they are selected. Maurice Stovall would be a huge bust right now if he were taken in the first round. But since he was a late third-rounder, he’s not in that category.

The draft is about making the right picks, which is determined years later.

Freeman looked “ready” to everyone I’m sure. Plenty of good and plenty of rookie mistakes. About what you’d expect from a guy who is, in fact, ready. There’s half a season left, though. Long way to go. Hopefully, he’ll prove to be tough mentally.
