Time To Fire Up The Wayback Machine

October 9th, 2009

Boy, Joe’s got a treat for Bucs fans. Some 30 years ago, the Bucs were in their first playoff game, hosting Philthydelphia. Brent Musberger, Jayne Kennedy, Irv Cross and Jimmy the Greek were on hand.

Let’s just say any time someone drops the name of Gifford Nielson, it’s a quality reference. Please bear with Joe through the testy video quality. Normally, Joe wouldn’t post this as a result. But this is a jewel of a find.

Don’t you dig those old school real film slow-mo highlights set to late 70’s disco? I actually remember watching this game in our humble home in south St. Pete over the aerial on BIG 13. And the next day at Lakewood High there was a massive buzz of excitement flowing through the halls. In first period German class the stodgy old “Frau” was so excited all we talked about was the game for the hour. And it went like that the all day with every teacher in every class. It’s never as good as the first time. Just like the Rays last year. Even if they win the Series someday, it won’t be quite the same as that first time they turned it around.
