“I’m Sorry. But He’s A Bad Football Player”

October 5th, 2009

Fans comforted by Gaines Adams making impact plays Sunday and looking more like a real football player had their warm feelings stomped on by former Bucs offensive lineman Ian Beckles this morning, co-host of The Ron and Ian Show on 620 WDAE-AM.

Beckles, a critic of Adams since he played his first game in a Bucs uniform, was explaining that the former fourth overall pick showing up on the stat sheet with a sack and a fumble recovery and a batted down pass is practically meaningless because he looks terrible through the majority of the game.

“He has to do it for 60 minutes. … He plays part-time and he made two plays. … He’s a bad football player. I’m sorry. But he’s a bad football player,” Beckles said. “He looks so lost sometimes. He’s a very awkward football player.”

Joe can’t disagree completely with Beckles. However, if Adams plays every Sunday like he did against Washington, Joe imagines nearly every team in the NFL would be happy to have him.

Remember, they passed on Adrian Peterson to get this guy. He reminds me of Ron Holmes and even has his old number.

Joe’s been over this before many times: There’s no way the Bucs were going to draft Adrian Peterson. Nor should they have.

Joe i can’t recall the draft order that year.. please remaind me if Adrian Peterson was still on the board by the time we picked 4th…?

did you see thta Gaines was actually bull rushing the skins yesterday. this lead to the first sack and the fumble. He reverted back to the “end around” later, but I could not believe he was going straight at them and bowling them over… where has that been?!

  6. Joe Says:

Joe could not believe that Gaines Adams got through blocks and got a solo tackle on Clinton Portis behind the line of scrimmage.

exactly! but what happened the rest of the game… I vaguely (had to lubricate often for this one…) gaines being out for long stretches of the second half. He was seemingly relegated to a 3rd down rusher. If he was playing so well, why not leave him out there?

If yesterday early is a taste of what Adams can truly do, then babysteps… babysteps.

If yesterday was not a fluke (jury is still out), then Joe can see progress being made.

Well, if a true great Hall-of-Famer like Me-an Beckles said it I would take it as gospel. He’s probably the greatest ex-Buc……no let me make that ex-NFL player— of all time. I would consider his opinion on anything to be superior to that of Albert Einstein-because Me-an is so much smarter, just you ask him.

He’s had it tougher than any other man that ever lived on this planet, has lived through pain that no other single human can endure (just ask him) and in spite of this has a well listened to radio show that somehow garnered huge numbers-all because of Me-an (he’ll be glad to tell you so)—not like the guy who used to be in that time slot ever had a following.

Gino: That was good, Me-an LoLz…

He and Brad Culpepper are legends in their own minds…
