Matt Bryant Apologizes

September 5th, 2009

Apparently coming to grips with the fact that he’s just minutes away from being cut and trying to salvage whatever prayer he has of staying with the Bucs, kicker Matt Bryant apologized for his outburst on something called FM radio earlier this week reports Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune.

Just days before, Bryant lashed out on WSUN-FM 97.1 (Joe’s a satellite radio/WDAE-AM 620 kinda guy), inferring that he was going to beat up fellow kicker Mike Nugent and all but calling Bucs general manager Mark Dominik and head coach Raheem the Dream liars.

Not exactly the best way to keep your job when you are already on thin ice. Bryant apparently realized this and tried to salvage his days as the Bucs kicker by apologizing.

“I talked with Nugent this morning [and] apologized for some of the comments and tried to relay [that they] came from an offseason of frustration,” Bryant told the Tampa Tribune in a text message.

Joe used to have tremendous respect for Bryant, especially after what he went through with the loss of his son. But what Bryant pulled on the local airwaves was beyond childish, incredibly stupid and killed whatever chances he had of staying with the Bucs.

It seems the only way Bryant remains on the roster is if Nugent get bitten by a dog or a snake or injures himself tumbling out of a high-class watering hole after consuming one too many Caybrews.

After all, only a high-class establishment would serve Caybrews.

UPDATE 3:50 p.m.: Though the Bucs have yet to release the list of players cut from the roster, in a text message to Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune, Matt Bryant confessed he has been cut.

Bryant has been there for the team…. it doesn’t seem that the team is there for him.

“it doesn’t seem that the team is there for him.” Jerry

He’s hurt and can’t kick…so you give a roster spot to him? WTF

This is an NFL team the last time I looked – you can’t play or can’t win a job you get cut. They keep only the best players

    UNLESS: Your name is

Raheem Morris (head coach 4 cheap)

Luke McCown (wanna B QB who gets signing bonus but can’t win the job)

Tannard Jackson (can’t stop toking – gets suspended 4 games and STILL gets playing time – just to get burned big time; can you say game tape 4 trade?)

  3. Jerry Says:

    And now he’s been cut.

I really thought they would have put Matt on the PUP list or IR. If he can rest, get healthy and come back next year, he could be an asset. The Bucs should have drafted Graham Gano in the 7’th round.

  5. J Lynch says Says:

Right they should have put him on the PUP list but raheem must have something personal against him like the the OC never had a screen pass in the playbook?? Probably never had one in Green Bay either???Did Farve ever throw a screen?? Morris is a PUKE. Giving the guy an ultimatum play hurt or be cut.. Joey Galloway come to mind. Gruden was apuke, but Morris has capital P_

Nobody has a better screen than Favre, and now with Harvin and Petersen, Farve will be like a teenage boy in the Playboy Mansion. The Vikes look good and have to be one of the NFC favorites to start. Funny thisg is the Bucs could have drafted Petersen, Harvin and signed Favre. Nah, who needs those scrubs. We have Leftwich and Clayton. Bucs 16-0 this year. Hahahaha. Not.
