Leftwich, Bucs Lauded; Del Rio Ripped

September 2nd, 2009

The subject of the Bucs quarterbacks came up late Wednesday morning on Sirius NFL Radio and naturally Joe was there to hear it.

Co-host of “The Blitz,” Adam Schein, said Raheem the Dream picking Leftwich was a no-brainer and a move Schein said he himself predicted months ago.

Schein’s co-host, former NFL quarterback Jim Miller, agreed it was the right choice and he came out firing at Leftwich’s former coach with the Jags.

“Every since Jack Del Rio took over [in Jacksonville] Leftwich’s career went south,” Miller said in a not-so-veiled hint that Del Rio derailed Leftwich’s career. The Bucs offense “fits his skills. They will focus on the running game and take shots downfield, taking advantage of Leftwich’s big arm.

“Luke McCown has more versatility but you can’t disagree with why Tampa went in this direction. I believe Byron is very motivated to make his mark on the NFL again as a starter.”

What? Didn’t Del Rio draft Leftwich? Maybe I’m wrong but I thought Leftwich was Del Rio’s first draft pick with the Jags? How could he derail his career when it had not even started?

    Oar:

Very good point. Not only didn’t Joe realize Jack Del Rio has been in Jacksonville that long, neither did Jim Miller (obviously). Del Rio did draft Leftwich in the first round in 2003, his first year as coach.

  4. Mr. Miller Says:

Hey oar, keep quiet over there – don’t confuse the issue with real facts. Don’t you know that if someone writes something and it gets repeated three times it becomes a fact – even if it isn’t?

Look at Byron being a starter. I wrote about it before and now it’s a fact so there!

Hey Miller if that’s the case…

Gruden was the best Bucs coach ever
Gruden was the best Bucs coach ever
Gruden was the best Bucs coach ever

There now its a fact..(cough, cough)

  6. Jorge Says:

    For good measure:

Gruden wasted a top tier defense for 6 YEARS scoring no points!

    Ahh…back to normal…

Mr Miller, its ok I understand what with the effect of concussions and all.
Chucky, say what you want, but he did bring us a ring!
    Jorge,…. well crap!

  8. Tye Says:

Excuses, excuses, excuses! It’s everyones fault for his poor QB Attributes!

  9. Tye Says:

Why just stop with Del Rio! Let’s blame the o-line for not giving him a few more minutes in the pocket to make a decision and get the ball out of his hands, The opposing defense fault for rushing him so much knowing he needs the extra time, The opposing d coordinator for calling for those rushes, His receivers not being a few feet taller or able to jump high enough to catch his throws, the people who make the footballs because they are not made for him to hold onto so well, the grass for his foot work, etc.

It is what it is! he is the way he is! They got what they got! They will do what they can with what they got!
