Vacation Man Bullish On Bucs

A healthy Cadillace Williams gives the Bucs a deep running attack. Comparisons to the Falcons should stop there.

Joe thinks it’s beyond dangerous to compare the Bucs to last year’s Falcons, yet Joe hears it all the time.

Sure the Bucs should have a great running game. But the comparison with last year’s Dixie Chicks begins and ends with the quarterback. Matt Ryan is a stud, pure and simple. A quarterback like him who shines as a rookie happens maybe once or twice a decade.

To compare, say, Josh Freeman to Ryan is laughable. So let’s stop with the comparisons.

But Vacation Man of BSPN.com is one of the chorus of people suggesting that the Bucs will be this year’s Falcons.

Freeman in Pittsburgh, Pa., writes:Tampa Bay is flying under the radar. The defense may have a new scheme and we may have purged a little (lol), but with the young talent that we already had along with the acquired talent, we will surprise a lot of teams. Along with the added weapons to the offense, I can see the Bucs going well into the playoffs. What do you think?

Vacation Man: Living in Tampa, I hear from a lot of people that they fear the Bucs are going to be really bad. I don’t buy into that at all. When I hear that stuff, I usually point to the Atlanta Falcons of last year. There were a lot of people who had them No. 32 in the league or said they’d win only a few games at this exact time last year. I was one of those people. But the Falcons came out, won 11 games and made the playoffs. In some areas, the Bucs are better off than the Falcons of a year ago. I’m not saying the Bucs will make the playoffs, but I will say it’s possible.

Look, Joe wants the Bucs to win as much as the next guy. But Joe thinks it’s reckless to think just because the Dixie Chicks won last year means the Bucs will win this year. Sure they may, but the Bucs are a different team with different players with a nasty 2009 schedule.

Vacation man – you better start to “buy into that stuff.” Walk me through all the games the Bucs will win…..I’m waiting. Games are not won in the NFL with Hope and Change regardless of the last Presidential election. The key to ANY NFL franchise is the QB – do the Bucs have ONE that you believe can win games? I don’t.

I am not trying to be negative, but realistic. Sometimes the truth is painful. Sometimes change is not for the better and I have thought that since all the changes were made. One thing is for certain – we will know soon enough – about another month and it’s for real.

Wait one second here. I’ve read and re-read the “Vacation man” post and no where is Pat comparing the Bucs to the Falcons at the QB position.

Go back 1 year to where Atlanta had an unsure QB position, porous D and questionable running game (Turner hadn’t played yet).

Atlanta came out of the blocks fast, Matt Ryan did an admirable job as QB and Turner lit up the running game.

Fast forward to today and the Bucs simalities are astonishing:

The Bucs have an unsure QB position (McCown/Leftwhich), new D scheme and lots of new D players, however our running game and O-Line (minus Sears) should be constant from 2008 and hopefully upgraded with Ward.

Am I picking the Bucs to go to the playoffs? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

However if you look at statistics since the NFL South was formed the last place team wins the division the following season – strange but true.
