Gameday Tampa Bay Preseason Game 1

August 15th, 2009

Bucs at Tennessee Titans
Preseason Game 1
Kickoff: 8 p.m.
TV: WFLA Ch. 8 (Replay Sunday, 1 p.m., NFL Network)
Radio: Buccaneers Radio Network (in Tampa WFUS-FM, 103.5 and WDAE-AM, 620); Sirius Channel 126.
Weather: Per AccuWeather.com, the game will be played in perfect Florida weather. Temperature at kickoff is forecast for 84 under partly cloudy skies with little wind and low humidity. After training at One Buc Palace the Bucs likely will think they are in heaven.
Odds: Per Bodog.com, Bucs -3.5.
Outlook: The new look Bucs make their debut. As preseason games go, this is slightly more interesting only for the curiosity factor:

*How will Luke McCown perform with reserve wide receivers? Same with Byron Leftwich.

* This will also be first round draft pick quarterback Josh Freeman’s debut. Will seeing different color NFL jerseys for the first time freak him out or will he show some moxie?

* How will the defensive tackles play under Jim Bates? How they adjust to completely different roles and assignments will be critical for the defense to be halfway decent.

* Can Jermaine Phillips, 30, play linebacker?

* How does the offensive line adjust, and how do the running backs take advantage of the new zone blocking scheme?

* Can a wide receiver — any wide receiver — make enough of an impact to be a solid No. 3 receiver or even push Michael Clayton for time at the No. 2 spot?

*After seven years of Chuckyball, what kind of play-caller is Jeff Jagodzinski?

These are just some of the reasons to watch, with an ample supply of Caybrew nearby, of course.

Is this game on tv or internet outside of Tampa, specifically in San Antonio, TX other than NFL network? By the way did I mention how much I hate Time Warner Cable for not having NFL network or a larger Fox sports package. It is truly gutwrenchingly painful being able to watch the Cowboys only! UUGGGGHHHH!

    Joe all great questions

I HOPE that coach Morris plays the O-Line and D-Line for the first half.

I’m curious to see how Zutah does filling in for Sears

I’m REALLY curious to see the play calling – how many down the field passes vs the short 3-4 yard Gruden crap

It’s preseason but the Bucs REALLY need a win for some confidence more than the Titans do so I’ll take the 3.5 points this time. Yeah as much as I bitch and moan I’m still a Bucs Optimist.

  3. Joe Says:

Sgt. Mike: I think only on NFL Network (Sunday) but I cannot confirm.

Sgt Mike, I feel for you man.
You’d think with the Hundreds of Billions these idiots are throwing away in the name of “Stimulus” that they could find a way for the American Soldier to get NFL Game ticket for free. I often work in other states, and we try to find sports bars that will televise the games for us on at least one TV. That may be your best bet if your off duty. Gina Carano fights Chris Cyborg on Showtime tonight if you get that.

  5. BigMacAttack Says:

Sgt Mike, if that doesn’t work you can get the simulcast radio broadcast on WDAE website, which is better than nothing.

  6. Joe Says:

NFL forbids teams from streaming games on radio station’s websites.
