All-Pro Michael Clayton

August 10th, 2009

Yes, that was Joe nearly swerving into a bus shelter alongside Ulmerton Road on Sunday.

The cause? Joe’s shock while hearing Bucs beat writer Woody Cummings speaking on 1040 AM. The veteran Tampa Tribune scribe talked about how Michael Clayton was the Bucs star performer in camp and looked “like an All-Pro” before he went down with a hamstring injury last week.

Maybe Clayton chilling and training with Jerry Rice last month rubbed off? Bucs nation surely hopes so.

Joe’s just not sure how anyone — let alone the best blocking wide receiver in the NFL — can look like All-Pro material after a handful of practices.

Even if Clayton had a Pro Bowl type season in ’09, he wouldn’t be voted to the Pro Bowl. He’s had too many bad seasons on tape that won’t override one good one. I’d be happy if Clayton could catch 50 balls this year and 4 TDs. I’d be happy if he held on to more passes that he dropped.
