Lack of Spending “Worst Offseason Move”

June 7th, 2009

On his days when he’s not playing lawyer and not providing content for the premier NFL blog on the web, Mike Florio, the creator, curator and overall guru of ProFootballTalk.com from time to time writes a column for Sporting News.

Recently, he published the NFL’s “Top Ten Worst Offseason Moves” and the Bucs made the list, specifically at No. 6.

Why? For the Glazer Boys not spending cash.

And when the Bucs did spend money, they handed over a big pile of guaranteed cash to a guy with a chronic knee problem — tight end Kellen Winslow.

In the end, the Bucs probably will identify their key young players and use much of that cap room to sign them to new deals. But that won’t do anything to make the team any better in 2009.

Simply put, it’s hard to spend cash when you don’t have it. And that is the issue that appears obvious with the Bucs: They don’t have the cash to spend.

Remember that when you are thinking about purchasing a four-game season ticket package at FanFest.
