Gil Brandt, one of the NFL's most respected old school personnel guys, says the Bucs' new regime will take a conservative approach in the draft versus the more reckless nature of the Gruden-Allen era.

Former 30-year Dallas Cowboys player personnel guru Gil Brandt was cornered by the Sarasota Herald Tribune for his take on how the Gruden-Allen era performed in the NFL Draft and on what lies ahead with Mark Dominik and Raheem The Dream.

He offers interesting statistical perspective on how league executives grade a draft.

In short, he says the Bucs were subpar in nearly every draft grading category.

“All of their marks are high (bad),” said Brandt, a draft analyst who is host of an NFL show on Sirius Satellite Radio. …”It’s very hard to say what they’ve done wrong. The reason is, you have to be around (the team) every day. Is this somebody that Gruden wanted, that maybe they, the scouts didn’t want? What was Bruce Allen’s involvement in it? I always thought Bruce was pretty good as an evaluator.”

Joe was pleased to read Brandt believes the new regime will bring a more traditional approach to draft day.

“They’re not going to reach for guys, they’re not going to speculate,” Brandt said. ” I think they’re just going to go for solid players.”
