“Prepare Thyself For The Dini’s Return”

May 29th, 2012

Remember, Gerald McCoy stated a goal of winning NFL Comeback Player of the Year in 2012.

And now after a second offseason of rehabilitation and power workouts with renowned trainer Todd Durkin, plus weeks of pumping iron at One Buc Palace,  it seems McCoy already feels himself reaching new heights and feats of strength.

“The Dini,” as McCoy calls himself, (and who is Joe to scoff at a guy who speaks in third-person nicknames) Twittered a prideful message to his trainer late last week.

@Geraldini93 @ToddDurkin I hit a personal best on bench the other day. My weight is down, my strength is up. Prepare thyself for the Dini’s return!!

That was uplifting for a nation of Bucs fans yearning for McCoy’s confidence to turn into on-field results and health in 2012. Joe has fantasies of the Bucs one day stopping the run consistently, and for any of those to be fulfilled this season, McCoy is going to have to live up to his draft-day billing.

Joe’s pulling for McCoy. But he best deliver, or he should prepare thyself for the enduring wrath of angry fans.

If McCoy can’t stay healthy this year, it will be time to cut ties or at least restructure his contract to reflect his level of production.

  2. Blind Melon Says:

It says a lot when his bench is up after having two torn biceps. It’s an encouraging tweet at worst.

  3. lj Says:

I agree, however it is very obvious that are our team plays better with Gerald in the line up. If he can remain healthy for a whole season I think our defense will be much improved.

  4. BigMacAttack Says:

“I can’t believe it Coach, I bench pressed 110 lbs, six times!!!”

    “I am ready.”

  5. ClayBURN94 Says:

I dont necessarily beleive mccoys weight being down is a good thing. He needs some girth when going up against 300+ pound offensive lineman. Its good that hes committed to getting better but he has to do it the right way.

  6. Architek Says:

Don’t the Bucs have a public relations rep? This guy needs to be quiet and just play when the season starts.

  7. ClayBURN94 Says:

    Lmao @ BigMacAttack!

  8. BigBear Says:

@Architek The man can have a twitter and say encouraging words like these all day. Whats the difference if he has a little to say here and there?

I hope these injury troubles are behind him because we really need this line to perform at a high level this year. I’m not asking for double digit sacks, but playing for 16 games, 6-8 sacks, 12-18 TFL and solid gap integrity would be a major step in the right direction. If he doesn’t step it up this year it’ll be time to start thinking if McCoy is really part of this teams future.

  9. Buc Neckid Says:

Here is to hoping that “The Dini”
can increase his strength so that he
Benches more than our running backs

  10. dan Says:

strength was not the cause of his injuries. no matter how strong you are you try to clothesline a nfl running hitting back hitting the whole you will injure your fully extended bicep i dont care how strong you are no one’s muscles can take that. it was effectively an arm bar.

  11. Jessup Says:

Meh. Our defense is much better when McCoy is in the game, but this kid has pocketed $23M in his first two years and hasn’t done anything. He’ll get another $12M this year. I hope he stays healthy and earns it this year. If he gets hurt yet again, I don’t think we’ll be keeping him and the remaining $27M he is due to make in his last two years of his rookie deal. Unless he restructures for MUCH less, another trip to IR will be the end of McCoy in Tampa and we’ll be drafting a DT in the 1st round again. Fingers crossed.

  12. Oahubuc Says:

I still believe in the kid, but man, good riddance to those insane rookie contracts.

  13. raphael Says:

hope it was more than 200 lbs…

  14. js1506 Says:

I believe in Gerald Mccoy but all the other shenanigans must go…

    and at 4:30…

  17. Adam L Says:

He’ll never win Comeback Player of the Year – even if he racks up double-digit sacks. He has no chance.

If Peyton Manning suits up and throws one pass, he’ll win it going away. I’ll put money on it.

  18. patrickbucs Says:

@ Adam good point, I couldn’t remember if they had an offensive and defensive comeback player of the year but I do believe it’s only 1.

I have said it a few times; I’m giving everyone on this team a clean slate including McCoy (tough to say Biggers though:). Let’s see what they do individually, and collectively as a team this year then judge. What’s in the past should be just that good or bad; I don’t think that’s a tough thing for true Bucs fans to embrace.. an open positive outlook.

Hey Goofey, put down your twiter, facebook outlet and hit the gym and classroom……..take the less is more approach….show us by actions not you wearing Rickey Fowler gear at Mickey’s play grounds…….Gerald..shhhhhhhhhhh………you have A LOT to prove my floppy eared friend…….actions speaks louder than twiter tweets…….

  20. Miguel Grande Says:

If Gerald wins any awards for anything, I’m changing my name to Grandini in deference to him.

  21. Thomas2.2 Says:

    Need I say more

  22. Dini's Biceps Says:

He talks too much for someone who hasn’t done JACK SQUAT <———–

  23. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    ^No

  24. mainebuc Says:

McCoy needs to stop running his mouth. I have already grown tired of his antics. Show something of significance before you start referring to yourself as “the Dini.” Grow up, put up shut up. I wish Dominik would have traded the glass man while he still has some value.

  25. Hawaiian Buc Says:

There is something seriously wrong with some of you who think people can’t talk or tweet or whatever until they have reached the Hall of Fame. You sound like a idiot, and you really need to stop. It’s f-ing twitter people!!!!! Stop taking everything so damn serious and get your head out of your arse and understand that. How some of you make it through life with any resemblance of happiness is beyond me. In my best Allen Iverson voice: “We talking about Twitter!”

  26. Hawaiian Buc Says:

He should immediately cease to speak a word, or tweet, or facebook, or do any public appearances until he has a ring and has been inducted into the Hall. He shall not smile, laugh, cry, or do anything not approved by the tight arses of the world. He should move into a cave and not be seen from until these geniuses approve.

  27. bucswin Says:

Love the confidence with GM. Keep it up. Fans don’t like it? Too effing bad.
