More Wet Balls = More Blount Fumbles

December 12th, 2011

Down 28-14 in the third quarter yesterday, LeGarrette Blount tried to put the Bucs on his back.

It was the opening snap of the Bucs’ second drive of the quarter and Blount rumbled 23 yards, mauling would-be tacklers and refusing to go down. But just like what plagued him on a cold wet day in Tennessee two weeks ago, Blount didn’t hit the turf early enough and got stripped leading to another Bucs turnover, though Joe really though the replay official would have overturned the call.

Joe loved seeing Blount try to will his team to victory, but it was a downer watching Blount fail to figure out again how to be cautious with a wet ball. He coughed up two yesterday and two against the Titans. Last year, rainy Washington D.C. cost him a fumble, as well.

Blount’s fumbles yesterday were a great example of a young player’s growing pains, but an even bigger example of the Bucs’ coaching staff not getting through. Whether it be penalties (12 yellow flags yesterday), blown gaps or whatever, the Bucs aren’t responding.

With the 5th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select…Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama.

Hmmm…Bucs selecting a running back from the GREAT state of Alabama within the top 5 picks have worked out SOOOO GREAT for us in the past. LMAO!

One of Blount’s Fumbles yesterday was not a Fumble at all. He was down by contact, it was a bad call, but not enough video evidence to reverse it.

LMAO! Last time I checked…not enough video evidence to reverse it = Fumble.

    @apple roof

    Agreed. His knee was down.

BUT. This a non-issue. There are SOOOOOO many other problems. I am not faulting Blount, this is a team effort. Which we all know is no where to be found.

Apparently EFFORT is still on lockout

  6. passthebuc Says:

He is one of the few Buc’s that display effort. Someone made a good play and ripped the ball out. But don’t have the Buc’s teach him anything that will take away that extra effort.

  7. passthebuc Says:

AS far as drafting a running back, our record is not so great. How about trading down.

    Sounds like a medical issue.

Seems like all backs go through this, look at Tiki, Ryan Grant, AP even, when they learn to hold the ball higher and tighter is when they stop fumbling, great backs are so used to being the best athlete on the field when in HS and College that they develop bad habits like holding the ball like a loaf of bread or not cradling it high or tight enough going through traffic, they learn though.

  10. CC Says:

Blount is the least of this teams problems.

  11. Buc Neckid Says:

Alstott had similar “effort fumbles” in his early years too.

Blount is a nut job and wil never be the long term answer. Be lucky if he gets through another offseason.

While I don’t dwell on the Oregon State incident with Blount I still worry about his civility after the accusations regarding the traffic incident. More importantly I worry seeing Blount hanging close to Aquib Talib as Talib laughed, danced and rapped his way through the pounding yesterday. I would have straightened Talibs stupid cap and kicked his ass into the locker room.

  14. DP4LIFE22 Says:

MIKE ALSTOTT FUMBLED MUCH MORE THAN LAGARETT BUT WE DIDNT ASK TO TAKE HIM OFF TEAM, WE MADE EXCUSE THAT HE WAS MAKING EXTRA EFFORT. SO IS BLOUNT.

DRAFT RUNNING BACK FROM OREGON HE HAS SPEED!!! TO COMPLIMENT BLOUNT POWER
