Hiding Jameis

July 18th, 2018

Do the Bucs consider America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, to be the face of their franchise or not?

A quick study of the Buccaneers.com home page reveals no sign of Jameis.

You scared of something, Bucs? Training camp is next week and all eyes will be on Jameis.

Things have changed quite a bit the past month on the team’s official website, so it’s not like it’s been dormant or an afterthought for the powers at One Buc Palace.

It also appears the team has launched new slogans, or has at least ditched the moronic “Siege The Day” tag, which was a colossal example of team executives and their marketing agency being out of touch with fans and common sense. (Joe is always here to help, guys.)

On their YouTube channel today, the Bucs rolled out four new marketing videos featuring Kwon Alexander, Gerald McCoy, Mike Evans and the defensive line as a whole — but no Jameis as of noon today.

Combine that with the stone cold silence after the Jameis suspension from Team Glazer, Dirk Koetter and Jason Licht, and it sure seems like the powers at One Buc Palace believe Jameis is guilty of something worthy of redirecting their spotlight.

Enjoy the new Kwon video below:

  1. AHBuc Says:

They have a HUGE red flag flying above One Buc Palace, that’s good enough.

  2. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

    Maybe they’ll trade him.

  3. Pete I Says:

Stain of the franchise yes. Isn’t America’s Choir Boy, the turnover toucher still got a huge picture hanging from the side of Ray Jay?

It’s real simple the Glaziers either want the face of the franchise to be a disturbed man who is guilty of “touching the driver in an
inappropriate and sexual manner without her consent” , apparently has/had a drinking problem and lied about it…

    Or they don’t.

Outside of the local area and half the Buc’s fans the rest of the nation see’s the reality of the situation. Do the Glaziers even know what to do?

  4. Chris in WA Says:

Why is it so hard to figure out a slogan?

FIRE THE CANNONS! There you go. To think people get paid hundreds of thousands to come up with different slogans… Siege the Day? Really? Who came up with that?

  5. DILLIGAF Says:

    “Make the Yucks great again”

  6. DILLIGAF Says:

“Now Hiring for 2019 season: Defensive Coordinator, Head Coach”

  7. DILLIGAF Says:

    Kwon is a BEAST!

  9. Robert Says:

pretty sure jdubya will get all the branding needed…..

on the side of a milk carton.

  10. Robert Says:

jameis famous crab shack, eat em like you stole em’

    RFLMAO…..

  11. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Chris

    You just nailed it.

I think the Glazers, Licht, Koetter et al are struggling with how to regain trust.

DB55 likes to point out how Jameis ignored Koetter and threw that winning TD pass to Godwin…and indeed he did and when it works people are happy.

But to judge it properly it needs context. How many other times did Jameis go against the call? Then how many times did it succeed and how many times did it result in a bad play or worse a turnover? I do not know but without ALL the info can’t make a judgement on whether that’s a good trait of Jameis or a liability.

  12. Dapostman Says:

Ho, ho, ho, ho a pirates life for me!!

  13. Dapostman Says:

I can see calling an NBA player the face of the franchise since you can have ONE very good player and be in the playoffs. This NFL face of the franchise is a joke. Before last year the Saint’s Drew Brees won 7 games for 3 seasons in a row. It’s all marketing BS. The NFL is a TEAM sport and no one player can dictate wins and loses in every game unlike Lebron, Jordan, Bird, Kobe etc…… There are too many variables in NFL games. Face of the franchise? Pffft………

  14. Fartman Says:

I got a feeling Jameis implodes this year… I felt that Freeman’s last year. Its just what happens here. I don’t tihnk he finishes the year, and its probably his last as a Buc.

  15. Defense Rules Says:

Dapostman … nailed it. It’s a T-E-A-M sport, although some players are more ‘valuable’ than some others in any given game. And StPete, I agree wholeheartedly that fans (and media) never REALLY get to hear the whole story. You’re fond of saying there’s a lot of LUCK involved in winning NFL games, and I think it’s even more pronounced than any of us will ever know. The coaches know, and the players know, but there’s no way any of them is gonna stand up there after the game and say “Wow, we had no clue what we were doing, so we sure were lucky to win that one.”

Oh and Joe, there’s a picture of Jameis that keeps popping up on my computer (caption underneath reads “Lingering Effect of Eating Ws”). IMO you can tell a lot from folks’ eyes and facial expressions. That picture (and Jameis’ expression) makes him look like a wild man. Scary.

  16. BrianBucs Says:

Right now, the Bucs franchise does not have a “Face”. But that is really NOT a bad thing. It promotes more of a Team image and mentality

  17. Fartman Says:

The franchise doesn’t have a “Face”, but it has a “Hand” and it keeps ending up where it shouldn’t.

  18. JMan5 Says:

Their heads are in the sand hoping it will blow over and they won’t have to talk about it. True leaders.

  19. ben Says:

Winston does NOT deserve to be the face of the team. Publix won’t hire him either!!

  20. BrianBucs Says:

Realistically though, why would you want somebody as the face of your franchise that is a disgrace and constant embarrassment to that franchise?

  21. JameisNOT Says:

Face it bozos: he is done in Tampa. He may be a good fit for the revamped WFL that is to begging in 2020. I hear they are going to put a team in Greensboro, named the Gropers. Has a certain ring to it. The mascot will be a large hand that will chase the cheerleaders on the sidelines.

  22. Robert Says:

he’d be better off with pom pom’s

  23. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“ditched the moronic “Siege The Day” tag”

You have no idea how happy that makes me.

The Bucs could gain a lot of public relations favor if they went back the red and pewter and ditched the red and Charcoal uniforms.

  24. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Btw…I really, really hate those 20 second videos. They always offer just a tease, right when something good starts. This particular one seemed to cut off right in the middle of a good video.

  25. Buddy Says:

You alleged fans on this site are hilarious. I really do get my kicks reading this mess. Tough crowd. Brutal even!

It’s a hoot watching the soothsayers, the walker walkers, the righteous (love or hate) doesn’t matter. I Imagine the Joe’s laugh their tails off daily. I know I do.

I get all excited to see who the flavor is today. Who’s face is on the piñata today.

Is it Winston? Is it going to be McCoy? O Oh, it’s Kotter and Smitty’s turn today.

No MATTER WHAT THOUGH, THERE WILL BE A BERATING GOING DOWN TOWN!

Man it’s a hoot! I want to thank Joe and the guys for setting the stage. I really enjoy it…

And I just have to thank all the impassioned supposed fans for kicking the crap out of the players and coaches and of course each other for my entertainment.

It’s an arse clown show in itself and I think it’s just wonderful.

I promise to attempt to stir the pot as much as possible if I see it getting slow.

Truly one of the best dog and pony shows you can find for free.

    Thanks for the entertainment
    Sincerely …..

  26. Guilty Says:

If JW is gonna be featured, they can use the slogan of
    “Pillage and Plunder!”

  27. Bucsfanman Says:

It’s good PR to keep him out right now. Nerves are too raw, emotions too stirred.
This is the best way to help sooth the situation. Stay quiet and win games. In time some people will forgive and forget, some will not. The ‘nots’ cannot be won back anyway.

    SHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Win games!

  28. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’m thinking the Bucs are taking all Jameis Winston pics etc down from their website so they can have a clean launch of their new slogan.

“Jameis Winston not only Bucs Quarterback but AMERICA’S QUARTERBACK”

They have taken Joe’s lead here……he will be draped in the American Flag with all sorts of patriotic art surrounding him…..Rocket’s red glare fireworks in the background. Also unveiling a new song……Jameis the Beautiful to the melody of America the Beautiful”

    I can’t wait.

  29. Roy T. Buford Says:

The Bucs put a legal disclaimer on their emails when you write them about “matters” (as Joe astutely calls it up top!). So I can’t paste the email. But I did get some info….not pro Winston or anti Winston–doesn’t mention him at all. BUT it does talk about the Bucs wanting members of their team to be people we can be proud of in the coummunity, and how it’s understable to be unhappy with things, and expressed hope for continued support. This is a lot of boilerplate, kind of what we’d expect…but it does tell me they are still not sure on how things will go. This is not a “support Winston” atmosphere, at least just yet, at least publicly from what I see on that.

  30. Roy T. Buford Says:

^^^^And as I’ve been saying. They Bucs can have FFF Winston on the roster and even start him at QB when quits huring his team and is back from suspension…but NO, they don’t have to have him as their “face” or QB on the future. We’ve gone a couple years without one in the making before. Not good for fans, not good for business, but you also can’t parade a disgrace out there. He may just quit the moving the needle sooner than later. Hoping the Bucs win either way of course.

  31. JMan5 Says:

The lack of national sponsorship certainly shows he is not America’s qb. Even notoriety often brings sponsors. This child does not deserve to be the face of anything positive. I hope his child is 100 times the man he is.

  32. Tampabaybucfan Says:

This may be a repeat but my original post vanished.

  33. Roy T. Buford Says:

Something about the seeing the image of #3 on the side of the stadium and then reading the NFL realease and other stories about a drunk 6’5″ inappropriately touching the privates in a sexual manner a lady half his size without her permission…and it makes me enbarrassed that my stadium has that image, and that my home town football team has that guy wearing our colors. Yup, the Bucs have a problem. Mabye be watching for TSA to discreetly paint over him and put something else there.

  34. Walter Seidel Says:

Joe is gonna go BANANAS when they remove the huge Jameis poster from The Den Of Depression.

  35. JameisNOT Says:

Hi speak the truth, I am the truth, and the truth hurts

  36. I’m a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

JMan5…..Exactly what I was thinking…Maybe he can start pitching advertisement for Uber or maybe Pepsi Cola… What do you think? Win a few games and be the face of something big and then just maybe he will be America’s Quarterback!!!!

  37. WillieG Says:

[See ya.’ Warned people enough. Some have to learn the hard way. — Joe]

  38. Tom S. Says:

I rarely give the Joe’s kudos on their takes, but props to Joe for at least feeling the ‘Den of Depression’ that fans have felt since the NFL concluded it’s investigation.

While other Bucs sites are trying to generate some hype, dismiss any issues with Jameis, Licht or the season the Joe’s are at least partially feeling the pulse of the fans rather than acting like state run media and propaganda pieces for the team.

  39. gambelero Says:

    Great tradecraft. Genius really.

  40. GhostofSchiano Says:

Do the Bucs consider America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, to be the face of their franchise or not?

More like the @$$ end than the face at this point.

  41. Schlomie BarmitzvahCircumScissorStein Says:

Ah, the new age term(s) to make it easier to extract money from taxpayers: “community,” “giving back,” “foundation,” “making a difference.”…

  42. GhostofSchiano Says:

Slogans? You want to talk slogans?

    “Culverhouse, all over again”

    “Out of work Dirk”

    “We smell very Smitty”

    “Home of the Smitty Defense”

“Bunch of goobers and one anti-uber”

“We’ll make you love the Rays”

    “Come see Cleveland South”

“It’s a pirates life full of strife”

“Fire the cannons, no one is currently suspended”

    “Eat a “W”, crap an “L”

  43. Pete I Says:

    “Eat a “W”, crap an “L”

    hahahahahahahahaha

    This is the money quote!

  44. Jim Says:

I too have been watching and waiting for some comment from coach, manager and the owners. Their collective silence speaks volumes…

  45. D-Rome Says:

The Buccaneers focusing on other players rather than Jameis is not only the right thing to do, but it speaks volumes.

  46. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Jim

You will hear nothing from anyone…..if you do it will only be in response to repeated questions and it will be a generic response.

  47. tval Says:

Over/under? 2 years before every hater here jumps back on the ship. With Capt. Shameis leading the vessel. Better hop on quick, matey!!!!
And I thought my fellow eagle fans were crybabies..HA!!!

  48. tval Says:

They are showing respect for the NFL and their decision..nothing much they can do so why fight a losing, idiot, battle? Trump needs the glazer p.r. team..lol

  49. Roy T. Buford Says:

The Bucs have a PR problem; Winston has to overcome a 2nd time failed character problem. Those two may NEVER converge to where Winston is the face of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (again).

Seriously, want to get Winston thinking, reflecting, being more serious about contrition? Want to get him out of sight/out of mind of PR spotlight? Paint over his image on the RayJay, drop him to #3 on the depth chart, strip him of team captain this year, do not put him out there at publice events, especially at schools/around kids. That will naw at him. Let him focus ONLY on football and recovering his image (if it’s possible). Assess his play, his development as a person (lose the BS lines this time) AND fan/community support at season end. Let’s say he needs “three thumbs up” there to stay here through 2019. If you don’t get all three thumbs up, draft a QB in 2019. Winston becomes a “staff” QB to start or backup according to development of the new “face of the franchise” in 2019 and he’s released the following year.

  50. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Roy T.

I agree that it will gnaw on Winston a great deal if he is forced to curtail his community service especially with kids..he loves that and it will hurt.
That, may end up being the best therapy.

It is a shame because the kids gain a lot from his work……it will be very interesting to see how this works out….in our “me too” era….there will be many who object strongly to allowing him access to children. Teachers and Administrators will be loathe to accept him back.

  51. Roy T. Buford Says:

@TBBF…I have no doubt…Winston would not do anything wrong, but yes, given the NFL findings the Bucs have no right putting him out there with kids as a principle of things if nothing else. Parents would understandably be infuriated just at the notion, and OMG, the media would go bananas. Also, I saw an article in TBT where Bill Currie Ford took down a longtime billboard with Longo and Winston on it, and when asked, had no comment on Winston, other than confirming they still have an existing agreement (don’t know terms of that). They replaced the billboard with a billboard with no athletes. Related? I don’t know. I expect so.

  52. BringBucsBack Says:

    Ghost & Dilli, LoL!
    …Allow me to pile-on!

“Celebrating nearly 20 years of rebuilding!”

    “A race to 3!”

“Your TB Buccaneers; we promise to never interfere with your January travel plans!”

  53. lightningbuc Says:

The Den of Depression has been renamed Jaboo’s Lair.

  54. Rob Says:

How do the Steelers market Big Ben? Guess it’s a little easier because they actually win lol. Vagamis is a disgrace and cannot be trusted or depended upon. Bucs are scarfing down a $hit sandwich because of “Joe’s quarterback “. What a mess. Go Bucs!

  55. Not there yet Says:

One training camp begins it’s not all about Winston, it’s about wins and losses. I care how they lose, how they win and by how much.

  56. BrianBucs Says:

    Ghost

    You missed one;

    “There’s Always Jacksonville”

  57. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

Fartman: I had the same feeling that JW is currently pre-implosion when I watched his social media video saying something along the lines of “sometimes you are by yourself and people are doubting you, I don’t matter. I’ll overcome” the expression on his face looked like it was insecure bluster. I certainly could be reading into it, but I almost but not quite felt bad for him. Like he’s gonna be the Ryan Leaf of this era with some kind of mental decomposition in full public view. How will teammates, fans, owners, broadcasters react this season if he has a meltdown like he did after the Panthers game or when he poked Lattimore or tried to fight a defender? Everything has changed now. Most of the country isn’t buying the PR sell-job of the past 3 years. Will he manage?

  58. BrianBucs Says:

Business wise, the Bucs are trying to hold on to their corporate advertisers and sponsors. Lots of Millions at stake there. Nobody wants to spend Millions of their advertising dollars on a team whose “Face” has bad character, is a known Liar and may be a sexual deviant. Not surprised at all that his picture is not on their site or page at this point

  59. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I feel badly for the innocents who will be affected by Jameis’ actions……the Coaches in particular if things turn south.
I feel badly for the community which for now has at least temporarily lost an asset.
I really feel bad for the Children who won’t get the attention from him…(someone needs to step up)

As far as feeling badly for Jameis….part of me wants to and part of me doesn’t……I do believe in forgiveness….

  60. BrianBucs Says:

    TBBF

Parents are not going to send their kids to a camp or event where the keynote player, guest or namesake may be a sexual deviant

  61. stpetebucsfan Says:

Someone asked yesterday where I get the time to post. I EARNED it.

Worked my butt off to get to retirement in good shape and I’ve been lucky.
And I’m 70 LOL. Plenty of time.

The entire group of Jameis “hijinx” reminds me of a great song I loved when I was 12 back in 1959. Back then there were funny songs..and the Coasters were the best of groups when it came to that.

They had a song Charlie Brown. Won’t post all the verses just the refrain…

    Charlie Brown, Charlie Brown
He’s a clown, that Charlie Brown
    He’s gonna get caught
    Just you wait and see
(Why’s everybody always pickin’ on me)

That last line in parenthesis was sung by the Coasters bass with his deep voice representing Charlie Brown….always….”Why is everybody always pickin on me”

Reminds me of Joe saying…paraphrasing…Jameis is used to people hurling slings at him no matter what he does. Sorry Joe I’m too lazy to go back and capture the precise quote but you can rip me if I’ve essentially misquoted you..actually paraphrased.

If you youtube that song…that last line jumps out…after listing ALL the messups of Charlie Brown….

“Why is everybody always picking on me”? Indeed WHY!

  62. stpetebucsfan Says:

Could we stop bringing up Roethlisberger. It’s totally different.

BR had NO scrapes in college. He had already won a SB by the age of 23…the youngest ever.

In his two charges one was a joke. The girl makng the allegation had a friend who ratted her out saying she was hoping to create some “little Roethlisbergers”.
He said she said like Jameis but instead of a “witness” like Darby they had the accusers girlfriend. Did someone pay her…I do not know.

The one in GA was worse in terms of what was alleged but the girl went to the hospital for a rape kit and they never came up with any semen to indict BR because of his DNA.

But that was IT for BR. Two sexual allegations…same as Jameis…but how much more does Pacman Winston bring with his resume?

But AGAIN…it’s not the sex…I do not believe Jameis is a deviant or a pervert.
He simply a totally spoiled pampered athlete who could do no wrong since middle school. Hard to keep your head on straight when everybody worships you.

  63. D1 Says:

    St Pete and Roy,

I keep reading the same thing …2 incidents. Why not acknowledge the 3rd?
If you did, I missed it.

  64. Moebuc Says:

Just cause big Ben is on a winning team doesn’t let him off the hook.
He was dead wrong just like all the Winston haters say he’s wrong but the only difference is they’re is no police report video or anything with Winston no evidence but big Ben well you can watch the video of him so we can compare the two if we like.

  65. gp Says:

There is one person in Tampa that knows Jameis and his character better than any of us by a long shot
Apparently, she thinks enough of him to marry him and have a child with him
All of this decided after the announcement of the “Uber incident”
She has been his girlfriend since high school

    I defer to her judgement

  66. stpetebucsfan Says:

    D1

That’s not what you’ve read from me. Jameis brought a ton of baggage to the Bucs from Tallahassee.

I’ve always said forget the sex allegations if you wish because NONE of us were there…NONE of us know what happened.

But it’s not just TWO incidents. It’s a lie as recently as this year and the total disrespect that a man accused of RAPE would be out pass out drunk with the same guy he got into trouble with Kinsman…Darby…let’s make sure we keep that alive right? Oh and he’s accompanied by a CONVICTED rapist out on appeal…he’s currently in the slammer.

So again D1….would you be upset if you saw video on social media, TMZ whatever from this coming weekend where Jameis is out again with his friend…his right eh…and another guy actually convicted of a crime with Jameis blind drunk.

Would that be OK. Was it OK when he did just a year after a horrible controversy in Tallahassee…lie about it?

Try to get to an official with a wild eyed scary look which fortunately did not intimadate Shelton Quarles…SQ is not the type to shrink from a challenge otherwise Jameis gets to an official and we’d be looking at a lot more than just three games if he touches an official.

How about getting in a fight with an opposing player that ended up with his star WR getting suspended.

Sex sells which is why we’re getting inundated in sex jokes about Fameis. But that isn’t what bothers me. I do not know what happened I was not there so I do not pass judgment on it.

There are simply too many past messups that make me view Fameis like Pacman Winston. He has betrayed my trust.

And can we save the moronic remarks about me being perfect or never grabbing a woman’s vajajay. IT’S NOT ABOUT ME!!! The fact that I was never stupid and thoughtless enough to grab a strange woman’s vajj is really irrelevant.
I am not the face of the franchise or the franchise QB.

  67. BrianBucs Says:

    qp

Money and notoriety make people do funny things

  68. Trench War Says:

You know if the Bucs win in spite of Jameis we may never see the Bucs put Jameis on center stage again.

  69. Tampaspicer Says:

I can’t wait for the season to start. These JW3 threads make my head spin sometimes.

  70. Buccaneer scotty Says:

Why would you want this sex offender W fingers eating dumb a@@ as your face of the franchise! But they already knew that before they drafted him he sexually abused women and stole crab legs before the draft hypothetically

  71. D1 Says:

    Stpete,

I was referring to the three , Kate kinsman and the third which allegedly happened at FSU prior to kinsman.

  72. jmarkbuc Says:

    gp

you can’t be serious….Of course she married him. If I was her I’d marry him too, great shot at getting half in the divorce when he screws up again.

    Duh

  73. gman Says:

    How about…”Oh NO…we suck again!”

  74. JameisNOT Says:

Stpete speaks the truth. He is my honorary member of my very own speak the truth club. But for only a week, who is next. I was new to tennis site last season in which everyone bashed me for my views on dumb as a bag of hammers JameISNOT. Hell, Joe even banned me for quite some time. He still to this day reviews my post and delays entry for several hours. Step it up guys and join the “speak the truth” club, as Joe is starting to believe.

I speak the truth, I am the truth, and the truth hurts!

  75. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

I love the hypocrites up here. I can guarantee that every last one of you who cry that Jameis lied about this Uber incident have lied about things you should’ve told the truth about but you all sit up here condemning him for what most men will do as well. How many of you lied thru your teeth when caught cheating? I wonder how many of you voted for and support our sex offender president? He’s a despicable individual but so many of you love him and look past the bad things he’s done. I’d love to see you girls say the things to Jameis face that you say up here. You actually might because false bravado you know you can sue him and get something like Kinsman.

One of you got a lil tiffed because someone brought up Jameis color reason for some of the hate. You must be in denial or just a straight up liar to think you guys don’t get upset at the idea of one of Jameis kind with even a trailer park trash like kinsman.

You guys need to get over yourselves. This is a team sport but you dudes put all the losses on him. So if after his suspension and and he starts to win in place of Fitz would you all be nice enough to fall off the face of the earth? It would be nice not to have read your borish childish dribble.
