Suspension Equals Chemistry Quandary

June 25th, 2018

Wide receiver DeSean Jackson

Yes, the problems for America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, now run much deeper than his inability to connect with DeSean Jackson, who Dirk Koetter insists was open last season but the offense didn’t capitalize.

However, that chemistry issue remains a key to the season, and the suspension casts a dark shadow over fixing it.

Koetter was adamant that Jackson did his job very well last season. In fact, at the NFL owners meetings in March, Koetter explained to Joe and media that his staff crafted an in-house video of the offense (quarterbacks) failing to get Jackson the football.

Jameis strongly considers himself a “relationship” quarterback. Jameis detailed this to Joe and Ira Kaufman during a private sitdown for the Ira Kaufman Podcast two weeks ago. In other words, Jameis truly believes he needs a second season to build chemistry with a receiver.

(Joe doesn’t buy it, but Jameis does, and that’s what important.)

So now what?

With a pending suspension, Jameis should be the No. 2 quarterback through training camp and preseason, if Koetter is wise, which means Jameis won’t be throwing much to Jackson.

And then Jameis has to go home for three weeks and not see his teammates (assuming his suspension is for three games). When Jameis returns, it’s safe to say there is a great chance he’ll be pressing, which he’s prone to do, and a little out of rhythm, especially with Jackson.

Joe sure hopes Jameis can connect often with Jackson after training camp practices — and maybe a little before camp — to compensate for lost time.

Fitz can’t hit djx deep either. So they might as well start him now

Joe – your opinion – why is the NFL waiting to announce?
Might be waiting for Monday, July 2, to capitalize on fewer people paying attention on the holiday week and many NFL writers on vacation. Might just be negotiating with the attorney for the accuser for a backroom settlement so when this announcement pops it ends for good. No way to know. –Joe

@Sc. Two words… SWEEPS WEEK!!! Haha

Well hopefully the defense is good enough to win. I’m upset with Jameis… even tho this was 2016… he’s not a good decision maker and this won’t be the last time he leaves ppl frustrated…
Maybe this is a reality check for him… I know Cincinnati Bengals are known for picking up questionable character players… just don’t trade him to New England!!!

    Thanks fir your view Joe

Since the reports came out I bet both Kraft and Jerry Jones are the most anxious ppl on Earth right now waiting on that report. And if he gets 3 games that’s a slap on the risk and I expect them to be pissed.

I think they are waiting because they need to justify his 3 games and why not 4-6 games giving Zek and Brady got hammered.

Im a HUGE JW fan one his biggest I do believe if he is innocent I still think he should get his 3 game ban and take like a man. He needs discpline. Koetter not doing it. Goodell get the job done

  7. Lamarcus Says:

If he goes to new England it’s a wrap. 10 Superbowls and the dynasty continue

  8. Trench War Says:

We’ve got 3 other QB’s on our roster who will be available to play. We know about Griffin and the fact he’s never taken an NFL snap in a game but what about the walk-on rookie Austin Allen who is as short as Brees and Wilson. Will they go with 2 and put Allen on the PS because Griffin has no more PS eligibility. When Winston comes back will they release Griffin? Or will they carry 3 on the active roster with Allen on the PS? At this point these questions are more important than the Winston saga.

  9. jmarkbuc Says:

The Bucs had better bring another qualified QB in. Once the season starts Fitz is one concussion away from Griffin being your starter, with no real back up from there.

  10. Maze Says:

Jameis better keep his head on straight during his suspension and stay clear of the bars. Hopefully he doesn’t have Josh Freeman’s phone number either.

    And John Elway.

  12. Lamarcus Says:

The only reason I’m happy Fitz is here cuz I don’t have to hear about Kappernicky. And thats it.

This whole thing makes me want to throw up

  14. Not there yet Says:

If Winston still needs full time reps and 3 games to be on the same page with a guy who has never had a problem with quarterbacks hitting him deep then it’s a Winston problem and at that point you just have to admit your strong arm is useless is you can’t get deep balls

  15. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Think it may be time to trade Djax, hope fitz can get the team going but its gonna be uphill battle that may be too tough too overcome and i like djax on the bucs but he has no respect for #3

  16. Duke Says:

    @Joe,

On a topic not Jameis Winston related, is there any interest in from the team in selecting a DB in the upcoming supplemental draft? Jason L could use a win about now and the kid from msu would instantly be the team’s #1 corner prospect.

Also, there’s a virtual bargain basement price being set in the veteran safety market. Do you think that the price is at a point where the team pulls the trigger on upgrading the safety position.

Last, the QB position is not the same as it was a week ago. If there is an injury do we roll the dice with a yeti as backup. Yeti, hear a lot about it but like Griffin it’s elusive and more mythical than actual.

  17. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Well America’s Quarterback Jameis Winston might miss reps with DJax (who will be gone next year) but America’s Quarterback Jameis Winston is going to get many more reps with younger guys like Godwin, Hump, Bobo, and Watson.

You know, the guys he will be playing with for many years.

Fitz is a smart cookie I think he knew he was going to get a chance to start if he stuck around
