“No Egos”

Loves chemistry on defense.

Loves chemistry on defense.

Yes, Bucs cornerback Vernon Hargreaves is a rookie with mad skills.

Joe has spoken to Hargreaves a few times already one-on-one, and he seems to have a bit of America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, in him: intelligent, confident, driven, willing to do whatever it takes for a win.

It seems, from talking to Hargreaves, he expected veterans to give him some rookie treatment ,whether that means freezing him out or making him pay his dues, like carrying helmets and shoulder pads after practice.

But Hargreaves says not only has he been welcomed by the veterans on the defense, but they have embraced him as a brother and are always willing to help.

“You know, we have a group of great vets,” Hargreaves said. “All of the guys in the locker room, they all take care of the rookies extremely well. They’re not steering us wrong.

“We have no egos on this team, that’s one thing I did notice. Not a lot of egos and just guys that really care for one another and guys that want to win.”

Two guys that have helped Hargreaves — it seems he doesn’t need a whole lot of help — are Brent Grimes and Alterraun Verner, who Hargreaves said told him the path to NFL success isn’t about just athletic ability.

“Those guys are extremely smart,” Hargreaves said. “They know what’s coming before it’s coming, and that’s why they’re good and that’s why they are who they are, that’s why they’re Pro Bowlers.

“Just learning from them, taking bits of information from them every day, staying in their ear, staying [on] their hip, bugging them, and keep asking them questions. That’s how I learn the best and that’s what I’m doing and they’re doing a great job of helping me.”

This is cool to hear. Joe is fully on the Hargreaves bandwagon after this week, eager to see what he can do when the pads come on.

Joe thought it was interesting Hargreaves said how well Verner is practicing. That is encouraging. Perhaps Verner has been liberated by defensive coordinator Mike Smith?

    A little Jaboo in him and he is on D? I’ll take it. Very glad to hear his experience has been positive and that the vets are grooming him for greatness. There is something about this current Bucs roster that screams “LEGIT” to me and stories like this enforces that feeling.

    The Bucs really seem like a family. It’s nice to have players who really care about each other’s success.

    The fact that one of our player admits having an ego isn’t good for yourself or your team, shows he’s a genius already! This is great !!!

    Is it me or has Banks been getting burnt in practice this entire camp? Every vid I see he’s given up a TD, what’s up with that?

    cant wait until the pads come on….GO BUCS!!!!

    @DB55

    I noticed that too. It’s not looking good for Banks, especially with Hey Jude getting first team reps.

    Hope we get to see Grimes pick off Matt Ryan at least once this year

    @DB55 and Scurvy

    Ive actually heard that Banks is getting some good ints and break ups, but I dont go to the practices so I wouldn’t know for sure

    That’s good news, if that’s true. I really like Banks, I’ve been waiting for his come out party.

    Close your eyes and just listen to this kid. He sounds like a young Tiger Woods. Cock sure, ultra confident, and intelligent. Gotta have that swagger on the island, and he’s got it. Let’s see.

    Verner and VH3 are our 2 most talented CBs. They should be our starters for the next several years. Grimes should be n the slot and Banks should move to Safety. A combo of Banks and Smith as our safeties and McDougle as our #3 could be awesome.

    This is more for either later in the season or for next year. But that would give us one of the scariest and deepest set of DBs possibly in the entire league. Our future is bright. We are 1 really good WR away from being truly special. The league better watch out. We are coming!!

    @FunkyX Monkey

    I agree on VH3, but Grimes is our most talented guy, not Verner. I think Verner is 3rd with VH3 or Grimes being no. 1 talent wise. Grims is the most complete CORNER we have as of now tho,. But when it comes to talent I think VH3 has got the most skills imo.

    Imma go ahead and say it now, the Bucs have the deepest roster in the league at CB. We are loaded at that position.

    Grimes
    VH3
    Verner
    Banks
    JAB (Hey Jude) don’t sleep on him btw either. Played well for a rookie in a terrible scheme.

    IL feel quit confident throwing those 5 corners against any team. I realize there’s 6 there but u really can’t put 6 DB’s on the field at the same time. Now If Smith can develop at safety as well as McDougald, the future looks bright for this ball hawking secondary. Can u say… INTERCEPTION??
