Time For Henry Melton To Rise Up

Henry Melton

There’s a reason Tampa Bay decided to pay defensive tackle about $4 million to join the Bucs this year.

First, that’s the kind of money capable, experienced defensive tackles earn in free agency.

Second, Melton was needed to back up Gerald McCoy and rotate in at other spots on the D-line.

But the Bucs raised expectations for Melton big time in the summer. Leslie Frazier even told BSPN that Melton was the team’s defensive X-Factor, because his Pro Bowl form was back. Yes, Melton was a Pro Bowler after the 2012 season, and he was the Bears’ designated franchise player.

Melton has been ok with the Bucs, but certainly nothing special.

With Gerald McCoy today admitting to a busted up hand that needed repair after Sunday’s game, well, it’s certainly time for Melton to rise up and prove himself in a big way. Joe would be quite surprised to see Gerald McCoy play much football on Sunday.

Melton, 29 years old and a free agent after this season, certainly has a load of cash incentive to perform.

I hope he steps up and proves his worth….GO BUCS!!!

  2. Newbucsfan2 Says:

Hope it’s more than just a job to him. Probably not, but we’ll see soon enough.

  3. Marcus B Says:

Melton will play better than McCoy did!!!! He has something to prove…McCoy has been mothing but talk and excuses his entire career!! We needed to get a quality backup at DT to bring some heat in!! Shine Henry Melton!!!

  4. Defense Rules Says:

Melton played in all 11 games, but with 12 tackles and 1 sack don’t think anyone would say that he’s lighting the world on fire. If that’s his production in the first 11 games, why are we supposed to think that he’ll all of sudden become a beast in the last 5 games of the season?

By the way of comparison, McDonald only played in 6 games and already had 21 tackles when he got hurt.

  5. OneLove Says:

We need you BIG MELTON!! WOOOOOOO!!!

  6. Fsuking Says:

Melton is a great example of Lovie’s complete inability to have the best players on the field at any given time. I’m not sure he could tell the difference between Revis and Leonard Johnson without looking at a stat sheet! He’s a moron

    REALLY BRO

  8. Dougy balls Says:

Like joe said in his previous article. McCoy leads all DT in sacks since 2012 and that is all while being double teamed on 95% of his snaps

  9. Pick6 Says:

to paraphrase Rodney Dangerfield in “Back to School” – “you could be whatever you wanna be. if you wanna be a loser, be a loser. if you wanna be a winner, be a winner. the choice is up to you. Remember: YOU’RE A MELTON!”

    @Fsuking

Let’s get one thing straight. Lovie Smith knows more about football than you or I will EVER KNOW! That’s why he’s a Head Coach in the NFL and you’re just a B!TCH posting on a blog… It really is as simple as that….

Thank you and have a nice day!

  11. Buccfan37 Says:

4 million for what? Better step up Melton to earn some of that.

  12. The Buc Realist Says:

Thats nothing, Lovie has collected 10 million just to go 7-20 so far!!!

  13. BucMania Says:

Some would say that McCoy hasn’t played all year long. I find it surprising that people are just now noticing McCoy coming out of games. I’ve heard many saying they noticed it during the Colts game. I noticed him on the sidelines for many defensive snaps during the Cowboys game. It would be interesting to find out what % of plays he has missed thru out the season.

  14. Defense Rules Says:

@BucMania … “It would be interesting to find out what % of plays he has missed thru out the season.”

If you go to Pro-Football-Reference.com (http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/tam/2015.htm) you can find out exactly how many snaps GMC has played. Scroll down a little and click on ‘Boxscore’ for each game, then scroll down until you find ‘Snap Counts’.

Hint: It’s a LOT more than you seem to think he’s played. He’s been in on around 80% of the defensive plays … which is a bunch for a DT getting beaten up in the trenches.

  15. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Buc Realist

7-20 so far!!! I see you’re wising up and CYA….so far indeed!!! Even you have to be just a little fearful that he’s actually turning things around and is about to go on a Chicago like run. At least nobody can actually argue with your last post because it doesn’t contain innaccuries just facts. Good for you.
And BTW I see you’re coming around to the reasonable take which is that the truth about Lovie’s ability probably does lie somewhere between the haters and the staunch defenders.

@FSU King….you weaken your posts when you put in such absurd hyperbole.
Revis against Johnson? C’mon man. You don’t get to make up an over top characterization and think that it’s meaningful or expresses your point.

When it’s that far fetched it draws responses like OneLove’s…

Lovie Smith knows more about football than you or I will EVER KNOW! That’s why he’s a Head Coach in the NFL and you’re just a B!TCH posting on a blog…

I wouldn’t call you the last part…I don’t take this Lovie hate that personally but I do have to agree with the first sentence…Lovie clearly knows more about football than any of us posting here…by definition…he’s a head coach in the NFL with a very successful run in Chicago and still some time to turn it around in Tampa.

  16. MaHaBoNe Says:

@OneLove don’t be a fuktard! Lovie is no more a SB coach than all 3 of us! What he lacks is what Jameis has ….. PRESENCE!!!!! FsuKing u nailed it!

  17. McBuc Says:

Mahabone. The difference between you three, the rest of us posters, and Lovie is that he is one of 32 people that have the chance to be a SB winning head coach. Your argument is without marit. Smith has been a HC for a long time, very few people can say that. To compare yourself to him because niether of you have a ring is ignorant.

  18. BucTrooper Says:

Henry Melton? Never heard of her.
