Buccaneers Sign Former Pro Bowl Cornerback Tim Jennings

September 3rd, 2015

jason and lovieDepth has come to the Buccaneers’ crew of cornerbacks.

Tonight, Jason Licht announced during the Dolphins-Bucs game that Tampa Bay signed 31-year-old former Colts and Bears cornerback Tim Jennings. The 2012 and 2013 Pro Bowler was cut by the Bears last week. Last season, Jennings had zero interceptions followed by minor offseason knee surgery.

Joe can’t imagine Jennings would sign here without being told he has a strong chance to start. Also, Joe suspects Jennings is being paid quite well.

As Joe wrote earlier, there’s a reason Lovie ran out Johnthan Banks and Alterraun Verner to play against the Dolphins in a meaningless game tonight. They’re still fighting for starting jobs.

Welcome aboard Tim! Now tear it up for us Brother!

  2. Rrsrq Says:

Jonathan Banks is not Richard Sherman, I get that, but you have to develop your on, he has talent, he gets his hands on the ball and he can tackle, I hope we don’t get into so many free agents that we don’t grow the draft picks, that being said, Jennings over Jenkins and I wished hard for the local kid to shine.

    Verner, Jennings, Banks, Jenkins….

None are great but all have strengths and give the Bucs depth. There will be A LOT of times when 3 of the 4 along with 2 safeties and Kwon and LVD are in the field. That should be pretty damn formidable for the back 7.

Just need the DEs to step up because the DTs should be damn good.

  5. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Oo my bad, we haven’t acquired Shawn Williams services yet.

  6. Dave Pear Says:

We should now be called …
    The Tampa Bay BuccaBears.

  7. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

Yay! We signed a guy with no picks last year, coming off knee surgery, who was cut by arguably the worst team in the NFL. C’mon.

  8. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Jennings is not replacing verner or banks…unless because of injury.

I’m thinking he’ll be our 3rd CB and cover the slot.

  9. Vincente Says:

    Wait for it….

  10. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @Dave
Verner is great. Banks will eventually be.

Verner is going to explode this year.

  11. LUVMYBUCS Says:

I here Cortland Finnegan is trying to pitch his services.

    Serviceable Nickle Back?

  12. LUVMYBUCS Says:

  13. Danr Says:

    would LOVE cortland.

he is TOUGH… doesnt know the system at all though.

  14. maccam Says:

We’ll know after awhile if he’ll work out or not, but it don’t hurt to sign him.

    Danr

Back when he was w/ Tenn. – He played a lot of Slot/Nickle.

He’s a savvy Dude, So I’m sure he can Jam, Sink and handle the 9/7 routes on the outside.(Gulp)

But nah, at this point in his career – He’ll make a solid backup slot corner. He’s instinctive enough, to play the flats well. Plus he’s a decent tackler

    So why not?

LCB Alterraun Verner | Tim Jennings
RCB Johnthan Banks | Mike Jenkins
SCB Sterling Moore | Cortland Finnegan

Licht is the GM comeback of the year!

OK Licht bring on some depth for our o-line!

8-8 is coming to us this year!

    Jennings > Dixon

  21. LUVMYBUCS Says:

If he has the balls to release Logan Mankins
($7 Million a year is to much for below average pay).

Some how trade for a swing tackle

    Example(s)
    -Michael Ola (Bears)
    -Cordy Glenn (Bills)
    -(James Hurst (Ravens)

Pick up serviceable guard that can play center(If released)

    Examples(s)
    -Andy Levitre
    -Trey Hopkins
    -Dillon Day

Trade for a decent Edge Rusher or Two

    Example(s)
    -William Young
    -Chris Clemons
    -Quinton Coples

    +Win a playoff

No doubt! – He should be the GM of the Year

  23. Stanglassman Says:

Bonzia- You are correct about Jennings position.

Jason L. basically said he would be competing for the slot corner spot vs Sterling Moore. Jennings seems to want to be on the field more than collect a last paycheck or just get a ring for just being a back up player.

  24. MadMax Says:

You’re right on it like always Luv, damn straight we respect this move. Now to watch the waiver wire for O line, Guards in particular.

  25. Stanglassman Says:

Why are you guys so concerned saving Glazier’s Money? Are we unable to sign a player this season due to cap room? I thought everyone on here thought it was a bad idea to cut starting OL players before you find someone better to replace them. Now it’s a good idea to do it a few days before the start of the season. And with rookie QB that we all know will be blitzed like crazy up the middle. Bad idea. I’m not saying it won’t happened but I hope they have more sense than that.
