Big Day For Jameis Winston, Bucs

March 31st, 2015
jameis and magic

The action starts at 10 a.m.

Yes, Joe is typing this here post from Tallahassee, where Joe will be among the many at Florida State’s indoor football practice facility watching Jameis Winston’s final public display of his talents before he is drafted by the Bucs.

Joe is confident a large contingent of Bucs brass will be in attendance.

It’s a big day, but just a piece of the puzzle. Remember, too many teams (perhaps the Bucs as well?) were turned off by a subpar pro day last year by Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater last year. That certainly was no harbinger of things to come.

JaMarcus Russell also had one of the best pro days scouts can remember. How’d that turn out?

Oh, yeah, Winston won’t be the only guy working out today. Florida State has a few other players the Bucs could use, including center Cam Erving, who is expected to be a high pick.

The event will be broadcast on NFL Network live at noon, with the broadcast team of Lindsey Rhodes, Mike Mayock and Kurt Warner, but the pro day actually begins at 10 a.m. Remember, monitor Joe’s Twitter (@JoeBucsFan) feed for updates.

“I will be shocked if Jameis Winston does not have a great pro day,” NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah said on NFL Network.

  1. Luther Says:

I expect Jameis to kill it today.

  2. Pickgrin Says:

Last chance for Winston to show us all what he’s got. It’s not all that important really for him to have a good showing – although it would be surprising if he doesn’t. Licht says its mostly about the tape – and I agree with him that it should be.

Time to flash that big arm with the great touch Jameis. And flash the smile.

Hopefully we will be seeing a lot of both come Sundays this fall.

And hopefully at least one of these OLinemen (Erving or Tre Jackson) will be a Buccaneer as well. Hell there’s a few of these Noles I’d love for the Bucs to somehow acquire – CB P.J. Williams, WR Rashad Greene, DE Mario Edwards Jr.

    Big day in TallyTown.

  3. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

Did Jameis get in any trouble last night ?

  4. JJV Says:

The only trouble he got into is trying to find a bank to deposit all the money he gets when the Bucs draft him. Sorry to disappoint all that do not approve but it’s happening whether you like it or not.

  5. Mariota Joe Says:

Not up to me to approve or disapprove. But is IS up to me whether to support a team with this guy or not. I’ll go with “not”.

  6. flmike Says:

_____________is going to immediately energize that fanbase, that football team — on the practice field, in that locker room. Three years from now you could be looking at a guy that’s certainly one of the elite top five quarterbacks in this league. …You’re talking about a 2-3 year period once he’s under center. Look out because the skill level that he has is certainly John Elway-like.” — ESPN’s Mel Kiper

This year, I can’t get over how good and talented ______________ is. It just blew me away. If I had the first, second, third, fourth, fifth pick in that draft, I would be tearing apart his personal life trying to figure out whether or not I could trust this kid with $10-million … From a physical skill set perspective, I’ve never seen a college quarterback with more ability than _________. You put the tape on and it’s frightening. The only thing that’s going to keep ________ from being great is him. What it comes down to is you’ve got to figure out whether or not this kid wants to be the best quarterback in football. If he wants to be the best quarterback in football, he can be.” — NFL Network’s Mike Mayock

    Fill in the blanks….

  7. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

“The only trouble he got into is trying to find a bank to deposit all the money he gets when the Bucs draft him”…….he better hide it offshore….’cause there are folks lining up with court papers to take it from him….

  8. Todd Kiper Says:

People hoping for Winston to get in trouble shows a complete lack of character. It’s quite ironic……and pathetic.

  9. flmike Says:

Every year, we hear the same thing said about the next best greatest QB to ever be…
60% of all drafts picks are busts, thats not a very good average, it’s a crap shoot at best, career suicide at worst….pick wisely, expediency is what kills franchises.

BTW…in the above post, it was JaMarcus Russell they were talking about….

  10. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

Nobody is hoping Jameis gets in trouble……he does it all by himself…..what is pathetic is your twisting words

  11. dmatt Says:

The legendary “Magic Johnson” n the future legend “Famous Jameis”…who happens to have some magic of his own.

  12. Eric Says:

What are the Bucs going to do without the support of Mariota Joe?

    Oh so sad.

  13. Eric Says:

The Bucs should just not participate in the draft since its a crap shoot and no good players ever come from it.

  14. Mariota Joe Says:

    Eric, please……

I’m aware no one cares whether I continue supporting the Bucs, which I have done since I moved here in 1986. But believe me when I say this….I’m only one of many thousands. And I don’t care about those that attack football fans for not fawning over this jerk. It’s really kinda funny how Jaboowins’ fans attack his non-fans. We read the news, and make our own decisions on character.

  15. Phil Says:

The Bucs should already have signed Winston. He could be already working out with VJ & Mike Evans.

  16. flmike Says:

Phil, you do realize that no team can have organized football practices until 6 weeks after the start of the NFL year, there is a CBA mandated off-time period.

  17. Eric Says:

I’m not attacking you Mariota Joe, just saddened we won’t be seeing you at any more Bucs game……along with the other “thousands”.

Miami and Jacksonville are short drives. Maybe you can start a limo service like Joe did back in the black out days.

I might do that to bring in the members of the Seminole Nation who will be happy to take your seat.

    So sad.

  18. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

    Tell’em again Eric,tell them again.

  19. iamkingsu Says:

    @mariota joe

Good riddance here is where I say goodbye! And don’t come back and change your screen name win he turns the bucs into instant winners!

  20. wifebeater5 Says:

So Joe and other media are appearing at Lamies old Hunting Ground. Wonder if Joe will be interviewing Erica Kinsman???

  21. iamkingsu Says:

Since he feels so strongly about the indivdual

  22. seminolebuccaneer Says:

People claiming “thousands of people wont support the Bucs if they draft Winston” yea… im sure you speak for all of them, you people are funny or sad but definitely one of the two

  23. Mariota Joe Says:

See? It always happens. Attack the fans that don’t have the same appreciation for Jaboowins that others (who read the news) do. You have every right to cheer for the jerk. Hell, invite him over to meet your daughter while you’re at it. But this isn’t about me.

  24. Mariota Joe Says:

Wonder if Jaboowins will be distracted by the huge civil suit that’s about to hit the fan? Also wonder how Bucs fans will react to the protesters outside Raymond James?

  25. Waterboy Says:

You can also watch him working out with Steve Marriucci on Game Changers tonight at 9 pm on the nfl network. I haven’t been this excited about Buccaneers football in a long time!

  26. iamkingsu Says:

The NFL has officailly opened their investigation into Jameis’ s past smdh. You’ll still don’t think it was the league’s decision for him to stay home until further notice??

  27. Waterboy Says:

Good luck on your search for a new team Mariota Joe! I’m sure some new Buccaneer fans will be more than happy to replace you at the stadium on Sundays.

  28. nate_tweetz Says:

Whether you’re a Winston supporter or not, to think there won’t be a spike in tickets sold and interest peaked with Winston as our pick is asinine. Leonard Williams isn’t going to get anybody excited and Mumbling Mariota will put everyone to sleep at his press conference and be holding a clip board for the season opener according to almost ALL the experts. If Winston gets drafted the seats will be full in RJ opening day. I guarantee it. If they win that game, the bandwagon is gonna fill up real quick.

  29. twizzylax Says:

I still cannot understand the vitriol some people have for a kid who was accused of something, yet never charged, and cleared by the SAO and a former supreme court justice.

Kinsman’s attorney, Clune, before the CofC hearing, said that the outcome would determine if they had enough to file a civil suit; and afterword said he was likely done with it (especially since Winston’s attorney, Cornwell, said he would file countersuits against Kinsman and her attorneys if they attempt a civil suit). If she is to file a civil suit, it will be with her third set of lawyers, and will have to be put on the stand and held under oath for the first time in this process. This will not be a payoff scenario, as Winston has already been fighting this for nearly two years and has the full backing of his attorney to file countersuits; and he also has every bit of the physical evidence on his side (as well as the clearing of the SAO and Harding, as mentioned before). Therefore, I do not see a civil suit coming.

Lovie Smith said that he trusts our justice system… now if only the fans of this team would.

  30. Mariota Joe Says:

Nate, I have no argument with your points. He will attract some new fans, yes, and he will repel some fans too. And winning always sells seats. But don’t expect instant sell outs. And RJ will not be “full” on opening day. That hasn’t happened in almost ten years.

  31. Mariota Joe Says:

Twizzylax…but the BIG missing link is Winston’s “friends” who were there that night…….their silence is deafening. But they’re not talking.

  32. BrianDorry55 Says:

    Mariota Joe:

Have fun with the thousands of ignorant protesters like yourself…you “read the news”…you don’t read the truth…because if you did, you’d know that her allegation is bogus from the ground up. No drugs, no blow to the head, marginal amount of alcohol in her system…what the Tallahassee PD did with it after that is their own problem…those are the undoctored facts and that makes her a liar…I’m sure she would be the first sorority girl to ever tell a lie!

Then you aren’t a real fan walk the plank I already got my season tickets regardless Winston is the real deal

  34. Pickgrin Says:

Geez – I thought the Winston hater trolls would still waiting for their Billygoat breakfast to come strolling along the bridge this morning – but instead are already starting to congregate here. I guess SuperSam and barry and “Time” and their ilk will be joining in soon as well.

Sounds like the “impending threat” of a civil suit is about all they have left to try and threaten a reason to be “scared” with.

Hate to tell you fellas – but there ain’t gonna be no civil suit against Winston. Erica would be opening herself up to Perjury charges if she testifies under oath. I’m sure Winston’s lawyers would just love to have unfettered access and all the time they want to cross examine under oath and show her for the liar she is. A countersuit would be the result of civil action as well. Erica’s lawyer’s aren’t stupid enough to let that happen – preferring instead to keep their accusations in the court of misinformed public opinion – where it is “safe” and nobody asks questions about those pesky little things called FACTS which clearly contradict her story and show that Jameis did NOT do what she has accused him of.

  35. bucs4lyfe Says:

don’t understand how 90% of the people on this site wanted bucs to sign grown man greg hardy proven guilty in a court of law but hate on this kid Winston for an accusation Ericka kinsman has yet to prove. what a country….even when you have no evidence to support any statement you made against a guy all you have to do is be accused and your guilty because of the college you went to lol. even when she goes after a civil suit and fails at that you nuts will still be hating on the kid but it’s fine im glad the signing of Winston will weed out bucs fans, the jags and dolphins need you. why wait the sooner your gone the better. real fans support the team regardless, lol imagine people like mariota joe throwing a temper trantrum because the bucs wont do what he wants them to do

  36. robert 9 Says:

can we get a pic with him and bill cosby?

  37. Pickgrin Says:

Oh – there’s Robert. Right on time. How could I have forgotten your name when listing obvious trolls.

  38. Bucfan4life Says:

Mariota Joe you are wrong about selling out the first game. As long as they take Jameis it will be sold out. I have been a Bucs fan since ’76 and I along with every suffering fan have waited for an opening day with franchise QB to be under center. Buc fans will show up in drives to see this kid play. They also will bring in bus loads of FSU fans that may only be casual Buc fans at this point.

As for your statement that you read the news; it sounds like you just read the headlines. If you read the report and investigated a little deeper into this kids character you would already be on board with this. Do you think the Bucs may know a bit mire about this kid after investigating him the past four months. If they take him that means he is a better person than you give him credit for.

  39. Rrsrq Says:

Great pic Joe, with the Magic man, why, because winners win.

  40. aunt jemima Says:

    Rosewood Massacre (1923)

you can only lynch brothers by attacking the character in the modern day…..what the hell makes any of you think you know anything about the guy, I doubt anybody here lives in Tallahassee. rosewood all over again because all it takes is a white woman to say she was raped and here we go again the klu klux klan is on the rampage this time wearing suits and dirty jeans. give it a rest already

  41. Keepitreal Says:

@mariota… What are you smoking!! Do your know how many times she has changed her story. Didn’t want identity known now she embraces it. Looking for PAYDAY anyway she can get it. Sorry you won’t be at the game, true Bucs fan… Lol. Rayjay will be sold out, guarantee! I guess I’ll see you opening day leading that protest with you 4 other haters.

  42. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Jeebus. Could we forget the rape allegations?!!!!!

One side is using allegations to come up with derisive terms like “thug” with racist overtones and criminal without a conviction.

The Fameis fluffers are just as bad! They constantly zero in on the rape allegations and because they can point to all the flaws in Kinsman’s complaint and the lack of a charge much less conviction that means Fameis is fine. Get off your knees fluffers.

FORGET the rape ALLEGATIONS. Move past it. What about all the rest? It’s the PATTERN that is disturbing not simply the allegations. Even if we accept those allegations as being unfounded and an attempt to extort money it does NOT change the REST of the behavior, including two suspensions from two different teams in two years. Those are FACTS not hate! The 2nd and most boneheaded act of all IMHO could have cost his teammates a conference championship. This is the equivalent of getting suspended by Goodell right before a final game against a divisional opponent for the playoffs!

Again…I’m on the record as backing Lovie. If he thinks this kid deserves 5th or 6th chance then I’m a Bucs fan, I respect Lovie’s character and so I’m fine with taking Fameis.

But “charactermatters” made some excellent points as to why he is not fine with it. While I disagree with his final assessment I HAVE to respect the way he posted and stuck to facts with no name calling.

That’s waaaay more than the Fameis sycophants did in return. They NEVER rebutted CM’s points and went to false equivalencies and straw man arguments along with the usual name calling of anybody whoever points out Fameis flaws.

There are a group of posters here who simply state their belief straight out…character does not matter…football is a mean nasty sport and not suited for choirboys. Bring on Fameis…Hardy…Incognito if Herandez can beat his murder rap sign him. While I do not agree with them I respect their opinion because they are honest and not apologists who just spin and spin and spin.

There is a group here who do believe that character matters and I respect their opinions just as well and certainly come close to sharing them.

There is a group here who believe Fameis has scrwd up frequently and at best can be said to be incredibly immature. So let’s draft him and roll the dice. I belong in tht group.

But could you Fameis fluffers stop trying to blow smoke up our butts? He DID what he DID…it is what it is.

  43. bucs4lyfe Says:

you just never know what your gonna get….johnny manziel and jamarcus Russell had excellent pro days so don’t pay too much attention to it. it was fitting that the raiders took Russell and not only that dealt with a hold out. atleast it means we aren’t dead last in evaluating the draft

  44. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Once again…all it takes is one poster to get the “Winston Wagons” circled…..come on guys…..just ignore it and move on to the topic at hand….

My fear is that this will continue indefinately….as a Mariota supporter, I have resignend myself to the fact that Winston is the likely pick…..am supporting him and moving on.

The last thing I want is to come to JBF 2 or 3 years from now and see this same $hit.

  45. ATrain Says:

The wonderful world of Bucs Fans… A spike in sales for Winston and he is the only one Fans will be excited for. But if he fails or makes another bad decision those Fans will be gone and the stadium will be filled with the other teams fans just like this year.
Oh by the way every poll in Tampa has shown 50 – 50 for Mariota and Winston. So if that many support Mariota you don’t think they will buy tickets.
Maybe if the media spent as much time on Mariota as on Winston you would have more hype for him. Lets not forget Mariota buried Winston in their last game.

  46. Eric Says:

I can hardly concentrate at work with the very thought of Mariota Joe not supporting the team anymore.

    Say it aint so Joe.

  47. Keepitreal Says:

Really stpete….BB gun, soda in a tiny cup, crab legggs… He should be in prison. What a joke. So glad you never did anything stumped at 19 and 20. Are you f in kidding me!!! Better yet why not lynch the guy. Get off your high horse. Why don’t you Robert and mariota go watch the JAGS

  48. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Now we are comparing Fameis to a lynching in the 20’s. See what I mean?

He hasn’t been lynched. He’s going to get selected first and make millions of dollars. PUHLEEZE spare us the poor Fameis routine….boo freaking hoo.

He still has the opportunity to learn from somebody like Chris Archer the Ray’s opening day pitcher. He still has the opportunity to turn his life around. I honestly hope he does not just for Buc’s fans but out of simple human compassion. Again part of the problem is poor Fameis has been surrounded by sycophants for so long it’s probably corrupted his behavior. So I’m willing to give him that benefit of the doubt.

  49. Keepitreal Says:

Stpete… I have to take back some frustration had not finished your novel befor post.. My bad

I’m not Robert. I’ve said I support drafting Fameis. And yet the fact that I mentioned it’s legitimate to be concerned over TWO SUSPENSIONS draws this kind of response?

No rebuttal of the FACTS….2 suspensions….just an assassination of my character and a call for me to root for the Jags. Really well thought out post. LMAO

  53. FLOGROWN Says:

The people who hate Winston are blind to the facts because of their hate. The supporters are blind to his faults because of their love for the guy. Ultimately, he did some dumb stuff, and he was a great college QB. The only thing I care about is whether or not he is going to be a good NFL QB. And I say he will.

  54. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

The anti-Winston drivel is just that. Drivel. He’s coming. We all know it. I’m so sure now, that when people say ridiculous things, I just laugh.

April 30th at 8:05pm is going to be a hilarious time. Can’t wait!!

  55. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Great! We’re cool. TBBF makes the best arguments that we should all just chill.

He of course is correct. But then again he supports Mariota for on field reasons.

TBBF you suck!!! Just joking all. 🙂

  56. Supersam Says:

@love and Warrick Dunn you might wanna start thinking of getting some anti- depressants because from the coaching staff hires down to the other quarterbacks we’ve scouted that run an offense similar to what Mariota ran at Oregon tells me there leaning Mariota. Lovie is blowing so much smoke right now that he’s gonna have lung cancer by May.

  57. Keepitreal Says:

Did you not see my second post… When I was halfway through novel I saw some support. Your still a bit of a hater with your Famies quote. But you no Robert, I’ll give you that

  58. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Ignore the drivel and it will go away….but if you continue to address it, you give it credibility….

  59. robert 9 Says:

you ladies can bash me all you want. I’m not a bible thumper or liberal or racist.

I just look at all the incidents he has been involved with as a body of work, just like others do when they look at his football skills. I acknowledge his skills, dude’s got mad skills…….but when you combine his risk of being the next great #1 QB pick bust, with the risk of him having off the field issues and the possibility that “something very bad” happened the night in question……….

well, I am not only not on board, but adamantly against it. yeah I huff and puff and throw jabs, but so do the nut huggers. so be it.

  60. ATrain Says:

Winston haters get off of the character train.. It doesn’t matter when it comes to winning or it doesn’t matter when it comes to stupid college mistakes. Don’t get on the girl thing he was not charged (period end of that conversation)

Lets talk football. A QB who throws bullets ( even though half as many INTs as TDs), His college coaches say he is the best (But were glad he left), Took them to a Championship (playing against unranked teams), Played in the first college playoff game ( and got killed by Mariota), Has great athleticism ( for a fat kid), And is very Coachable (as long as he is coaching himself. Lets not forget great underpressure (just look at his last game)

jameis winston was one of millions of college kids to have consensual sex with somebody they recently met that night. aside from those who walked away with serious STDs, i’m not sure any of them have suffered more fallout from it than JW did. let’s go around probing the sexual histories of every Division I scholarship athlete so we can see how many uncorroborated rape accusations they “deserve”. i wish people would read beyond the accusation (not a conviction. not even a charge.) and stop this “he put himself in that situation” nonsense. yes, every time an unmarried athlete refuses to be abstinent, he “puts himself in that situation”. Maybe athletes need to start recording consent before it is even clear they will be famous, that would have been the responsible thing? “Hi, i’m a redshirt freshman and relief pitcher on the baseball team. do you mind looking into this camera and confirming that the acts we are about to engage in are purely consensual?”

  63. Keepitreal Says:

your really slow sorry to tell you. it’s kinda sad someone has to explain lthe word lynching as a metaphor, they were simply saying blacks get lynched in a different way…..no one came at big ben this way and the kid is just coming out of college. you have to be guilty of rape not accused for me to stand against you. don’t understand how someone can be more hated than Sandusky guess it really does come down to color because if it was glennon im sure there’d be some excuse

  67. BoltIsle Says:

People keep talking about a pattern. Here’s the pattern that hasn’t been acknowledged. Since he began as starting QB, the two incidents that have happened are the Crab Legs, addressed by the court system and baseball program, and the meme yelling incident with an appropriate punishment. So his redshirt freshman year, first away from home, he made a couple knucklehead choices. That’s so hard to believe.
The pattern would appear to show he may have learned some lessons and grown up a little. 6 months without any incidents, again, this is not something that moralists want to acknowledge.
Comparisons to Jamarcus Russell are not accurate at all. JW loves the game and loves to play. He studies and gets his teammates to rally behind. None of these applied to Russell. That would be like comparing Dennis Dixon to Mariota, another inaccurate comparison.
As for the fear of civil suit(s), highly unlikely they will be successful. Inconsistency in her statements will be her downfall. She did herself no favors with her documentary appearance with yet another version. If they had found she had drugs in her system like she claimed, she’d have much more credibility. Only those two really know what happened. A lot on here figure the girl should get the benefit of the doubt, and she should, when there are facts and consistent statements from her that support her version. That has not happened.
I think there is a tinge issue of race thrown into it, but I think the bigger problem is butt hurt gator and $EC fans that a non $EC team can be the best, as has been proven the past two seasons. That would be a great debate thread elsewhere.
I got no problem with Marcus. Think he’ll be a good QB, but he too has turnover issues, fumbles. In addition, he has not shown an ability where if his team is behind, he will lead them back. Then again, rarely were they behind.
Both QB’s have issues that can be easily addressed and overcome.

  68. Jacko101 Says:

    Let’s Go Mariota 🙂

  69. cspann Says:

I think JW off the field stuff is magnified because he was special on the field. In today’s day and age media and the people a alike, love to see people in the lime light crash and burn. Most of his off the field stuff is way overblown, i mean he is a kid, I did the same things at his age. The rape thing didn’t concern me because it seemed like a money grab from the start. He was also proved to be cleared. If that stuff wasn’t so overblown, this dude is the clear-cut #1 draft pick last year and this year and any other year. If the Bucs did they’re research and I know they did, what is the problem. He is obviously a beast QB. I think we are very lucky as fans for our team to be in this position. We didn’t draft Teddy Bridgewater, but now we have a QB that superior to Teddy in every way. I think this franchise and team on the rise the moment we pick JW.

You’ll see a collection of pics making fun of Big Ben and his reputation. Some are actually hilarious.

    But to your point…

no one came at big ben this way

NFL suspends Ben Roethlisberger six games

Posted by Mike Florio on April 21, 2010, 1:49 PM EDT
The National Football League has suspended Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for six games for violating the league’s personal-conduct policy.

Roethlisberger will not be permitted to participate in team activities until he undergoes an evaluation. If he meets with the terms laid out by the league, he will be permitted to participate in training camp and the preseason before sitting out the start of the regular season, and he could have his suspension shortened from six games to four.

  71. Mariota Joe Says:

Stpetebucsfan thanks for the intelligent post….well said.

  72. robert 9 Says:

“it really does come down to color because if it was glennon im sure there’d be some excuse”

    lol

says the guy who berates glennon and schiano daily. never heard one kind word about a white guy from this cat.

    off to my klan meeting.

  73. robert 9 Says:

JW is special alright, just not in a good way.

a person with great skills is common. it’s the intangibles that seperate the men from the boys, and he fails miserably in this category.

  74. Bucfan4life Says:

I love how almost every novel (err post) StPete writes has 7 paragraphs where he details every sin that Jameis has committed and all of the concerns that he has and his mistakes are due to “at best immaturity.” He then sums up each post by saying it’s ok and I’m on board with him being the first overall pick.

StPete just be honest. You are clearly not on board. You say forget the rape allegations and (in my best fatherly voice) you are very concerned about his other actions. The reason people down play these other actions is because they, while dumb, were minor. Let’s detail them.

A publix employee wrapped up some crab legs and said of ahead and take them kid. Dumb but evil? Really?

A BB gun fight with team mates. Again this was dumb, but how bad was that?

Stealing soda by filling up a condiment packet. Do I really need to address that.

Lastly your biggest concern seems to be his swearing on campus. I will give you that it was definitely a poor decision. Do you know the context of that though. He was repeating a well known you tube skit. Again it was dumb but hardly evil. That is why people are ok with him and would not be ok with Hernandez. Your holier than thou statements on here are annoying to those of us who have done the research and decided that much of the venom thrown at this kid is over the top.

  75. BrianDorry55 Says:

    @SuperSam

Mariota ran a read-option…a very different variation of the spread that none of our offensive coaches have ran in the past. Everyone runs a damn “spread” nowadays…a read option is different.

  76. Architek Says:

    Have a good showing Winston!!!

  77. ATrain Says:

BoltIsle Says: Think he’ll be a good QB, but he too has turnover issues, fumbles.

Do you watch football, 5 INTs in his college career. A LOT HAHAHAH

You Winston fans really disappoint me, When a post about character is written you jump all over it. But a post about his stats and nothing. Must be a bunch of Lawyers on here or Bucs employees trying to hype the MAN. Just like the media is doing.

    ————————————————————————————–

You don’t have to like blacks or whites in the case of glennon and schiano. its strictly about win and losses moron which says they both suck. you have no idea what JW will be at the next level and if you say you do then your guessing. schiano and glennon are losers according to their record, glennon will be carrying JW helmet after practice this summer and schiano would be running behind him like a lost puppy like he did with belicheat during joint practices if you simply are comparing wins and losses

@love and Warrick Dunn you might wanna start thinking of getting some anti- depressants because from the coaching staff hires down to the other quarterbacks we’ve scouted that run an offense similar to what Mariota ran at Oregon tells me there leaning Mariota”

Again, not worried in the slightest. Thought about a longer response, but, nope, not even worth the time type it.

Just make sure you are here with the same username on April 30th.

  80. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Bucfan4life

Apologies for the long posts. I’m a writer and so I certainly accept your point there.

However I do not “detail” all of Fameis sins. In fact I’ve been screaming to forget the rape ALLEGATIONS.

I’ve stuck to basically two suspensions, one of them could have cost the Noles the ACC title. I’ve pointed out that I empathize with Fameis because he’s been above society norms for quite awhile. No wonder he feels entitled. Society treats ALL jocks not just Fameis with different standards.

Bottom line for me is simply trying to bring balance to the debate.
Fameis is not a monster, nor is he a saint. All things considered I feel very comfortable with OBP’s decision. I’m just going with the crowd in assuming it’s Fameis but if it’s Marcus I’m fine with that as well.

TBBF has busted me. Some of this is just an appreciation of striving for objectivity. We were both journalists in another life and objectivity is the metric by which we judge ourselves.

But I confess some of it is just rattlng cages because the predictable responses make it fun. Sorry for my perverted sense of fun. 🙂

  81. Skyline Crew Says:

Lots of Titans brass there as well. Must be looking to take Winston once the Bucs take Mariota.

Caveat: We still have Glennon and it doesn’t make sense to draft Mariota with Glennon on the roster. Unless we plan to draft 2 QBs in the draft.

  82. robert 9 Says:

    just a bb gun incident?

he was in cuffs hours earlier and told to stop, yet he went right out and did it again.

lack of common sense would be putting it mildly, complete disrespect for the law is more like it. nothing black or white about that.

  83. robert 9 Says:

if we’re just going by wins/losses then your boy lovie has a long way to go to catch up to schiano, but hey, whatever fits your agenda.

  84. aunt jemima Says:

lol no worries hahaha once again the English need the help of Indians in difficult matters of survival. once again JW will rescue the English, he’ll get slaughtered and end up needing to be traded

  85. Skyline Crew Says:

I wouldn’t just call it a BB gun incident. While they were shooting out windows what if a kid or even adult had been hit in the eye? Would it just be an incident then?

For those that have watched Draft Day, this feels just like it. That one guy that everybody thinks will be #1, but the coach has a gut feeling he will be a bust and that he has a character issue. Then there is the guy that the coach really likes. For me it is just a character issue with Winston.

  86. cspann Says:

@robert 9 so would you say JW was not a good QB or not?

  87. Mister Niceguy Says:

“Remember, too many teams (perhaps the Bucs as well?) were turned off by a subpar pro day last year by Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater last year. That certainly was no harbinger of things to come.” – Joe

Why wasn’t the same thing said of Marcus Mariota’s Pro Day?

Doesn’t matter. Winston could have zero completions and fans here would still want him. After all, he is just short of being Jesus…in some people’s eyes.

  88. Mister Niceguy Says:

While character is certainly a concern with Winston, it is not the only reason I don’t want him. Mechanics, release, mobility, weight concerns, leadership…to me there are a lot more red flags than with Mariota.

Unfortunately, I DO believe Winston will be a Buccaneer though.

  89. Bucfan4life Says:

Lol @SkyLine I would just call it a BB gun incident because nobody was hit in the eye. Lots of things that all of us do could result in harm, speeding or talking on the phone while driving come to mind.

Draft Day was entertaining but it was a movie and it was very far fetched. I know you hate Winston but come back to reality my friend.

  90. Mister Niceguy Says:

I know Mariota is also a gamble and has red flags too.

Honestly though, I would not be too upset if the Bucs went with another position with the first pick and took Petty instead.

  91. Mister Niceguy Says:

    @Bucfan4life

I think Skyline Crew understands that Draft Day was a fictional movie. He was just saying that there are a few similarities to our current situation as far as the two QBs are concerned.

Obviously, we won’t be seeing trades like they happened in the movie.

  92. charactermatters Says:

add me to the list of trolls because obviously if you’re not 100 percent sold on Windton you must be a troll.

  93. Skyline Crew Says:

I don’t hate Winston. I just don’t want him as a Buc. Simple as that.

Coming from a life of using guns/weapons whatever you want to call them, it was dangerous, stupid, careless, immature, idiotic, dumb, etc. to be shooting out apartment building windows with BB guns.

  94. robert 9 Says:

I would say JW is a good college qb. who knows what happens when he gets to the NFL and has millions to scratch that character itch.

  95. Skyline Crew Says:

    @Mister Niceguy

At least you get it. I don’t expect Homers to get it though.

  96. Mariota Joe Says:

It’s kinda interesting, if you scroll to the top of this page, you’ll see “ACCUSED OF A CRIME?” with Winston’s photo just below. Well played JoeBucsFan!!

  97. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @charactermatters

Kudos on your posts on that thread last night!!! Your use of intellect instead of ad hom and name calling was impressive.

As you can see I’ve signed off on drafting Fameis if L&L have done their due diligence.

All of your points were spot on they just don’t “quite” add up to enough for me to deny Fameis another chance.

The main reason I can cut him slack is because he’s a product of his environment. As you saw from the response to you last night many fans are simply irrational when it comes to their sports faves.

Fameis has been above society norms since his 97MPH sometime in high school. By the time FSU and Bama and Stanford were battling for his services he had to believe he was truly special.

Add in a Heisman and a National Championship and he just feel prey to all the boosters and biased fans. He felt he was above the law because in fact he was!!!

On a simple human level I’m hoping he can get his act together and I believe if anybody can straighten his head out and teach him some humility it will be Lovie and DB55.

While I come to a different conclusion your posts were excellent!!!

  98. bucs4lyfe Says:

i’m pretty sure JW knew after the Heisman he was going to the next level…im pretty sure he knew either baseball or football would make him millions. character is nothing that can be predicted, there are people out there that have issues and don’t necessarily get in trouble. no one really knew dez bryants background until a scout asked him the question. no one knew anything about josh freeman, it would be foolish to think he started doing drugs after he got drafted. so derrick brooks putting his reputation on the line being someone who certainly wants to be a gm in the nfl hey if he can do it I can say ok atleast we know what his issues are and we wont be blindsided by anything

  99. lurker Says:

i didn’t call you stupid, just what you did was stupid!

  100. robert 9 Says:

“character is nothing that can be predicted”

    what????

the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior.

people in the system elevate from juvenile issues, to selling crack, to killing cops….thats why they lock them up! but hey maybe we should let them all out cause you just can’t predict it. lol

step outside of football for a second and smell the world around you.

  101. lurker Says:

“the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior.

    ——————————————————————————————-

wow, false. you do not know of which you speak, again.

  102. BoltIsle Says:

@atrain, I notice in your response that you do not refute that Mariota has fumble issues. Thanks for the indirect confirmation. Can’t dispute, you start to shoot.

The real atrain would be embarrassed by your lack of reading comprehension.

  103. ATrain Says:

So BoltIsle you say Mariota had a fumbling problem.. That was one game… How many fumbles did he have in the season..

Now I notice you don’t bring up Winston’s fumbles… How about the statue of liberty fumble in the playoff game.. That should be a “let me give you the ball” not a fumble.

I look a the stats on these guys … All of them.. Not the one that fits my Guy.

Hands down Mariota is twice the athlete the combine showed that, Less INTs.. More TD this last year..

Winston has a great arm and has made incredible passes.
    Many comeback wins
Won the Heisman, Won a National Championship

But we have to look at the WHOLE picture to Guess who will be a better QB. Its a gamble.

So stop and take a look at the numbers that is the TRUTH you can see..

Not character issues, Not he said this better or he is more up beat.

AND to bring up fumbles with MR FUMBLELIA FUMBLEROSKY…

WHO turned the ball over more Winston or Mariota?

    WHO had a better year?

WHO can outrun a Defensive Lineman

    Don’t pick out one stat..

  104. Skyline Crew Says:

Winston had 7 fumbles last year. Mariota had 7 fumbles last year. Not seeing how Mariota’s fumbles are more pronounced than Winston’s fumbles. If anything I could say that Winston actually has the fumbling issue. Out of 57 rushing attempts Winston had 7 fumbles. That would be 1 fumble every 8.14 rushes. Now Mariota had 7 fumbles out of 135 rushes. That is only 1 fumble every 19.28 rushes.

  105. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

The only thing that matters is what the owners and OBP thinks. It’s getting pretty obvious who will be the pick. You can try to ignore the sun, but, it’s still shining.

    Winston to Evans. Touchdown.

  106. robert 9 Says:

    TBPD to Winston. jailtime

  107. Skyline Crew Says:

Falcons will lose a 5th round draft pick next year for their crowd noise.

  108. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

    @robert

You can flame all you want. I’m smiling. It’s going to be so GD funny on draft night.

You can say absolutely any amount of rubbish, and it’s not going to change Winston coming to Tampa.

  109. lurker Says:

despite his “athleticism”, mariota was sacked 7 times in one game vs 3-9 (2-7 pac 12) washington state team.
