Your 2015 Mock Draft: Jameis Winston

March 3rd, 2014
WaterFootball.com guesses this is your starting Bucs quarterback in 2015. The guess, however, is fraught with obstacles.

WaterFootball.com predicts Winston is your starting Bucs quarterback in 2015. The guess, however, is fraught with obstacles.

OK, we have reached absurdity levels with mock drafts.

The more mock drafts have become popular, the more Joe grows weary of them. Most — not all, but most — of the mockers change their mock drafts nearly on a weekly basis (Joe is looking right at you, you Bristolites). This really annoys Joe and frankly is little more than internet trolling or just throwing s(p)it on the wall to see if it sticks. Either stand by your picks or justify moving them, such as, “An NFL player personnel director said… “)

Mock drafts before free agency are little more than mental masturbation. If a team fills a need through a trade or a free agent signing, then what’s the point of drafting for the same position?

Joe remembers hearing draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah, of NFL.com and NFL Network, say on SiriusXM NFL Radio how much he hates mock drafts and the only reason he does them is his editors order him to do them because they get — altogether now — pageviews.

Now there are guys who take mock drafts seriously. Mike Mayock does one — two or three days before the draft. That’s it. Joe’s good friend Justin Pawlowski of WHFS-FM 98.7 also takes pride in his craft and doesn’t throw mock drafts out there just to troll.

That brings Joe to WalterFootball.com, an otherwise fine draft resource, that has decided to push the envelope of the lunatic fringe and post a 2015 mock draft. Yes, 2015! What, they haven’t predicted the 2016 presidential election yet? What’s the hangup?

Apparently, the Walter Football crowd has a grim forecast for the Bucs and dire news for the Mike Glennon Mob, as Walter Football has the Bucs picking Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston at No. 2.

Think about that for a second folks, the Bucs having the No. 2 pick. Walter Football believes the Bucs will have one of the worst seasons in franchise history, which is saying a lot. Additionally, Joe guesses someone there didn’t know that Winston, a redshirt freshman, has gone on record saying he plans to play through his junior season.

Now here is where it gets crazier. Walter Football picks the Jags to have the No. 1 overall pick. Wait, it gets better. They believe the Jags will pass on drafting a quarterback this spring and, in terrible need of a quarterback, will pass on who is widely believed to be the best quarterback in the nation who just so happens to play down the road about three hours away in-state.

That is, if Winston comes out.

Now after you spit your coffee on your keyboard from laughing, remember this: Joe took Walter Football to task last summer as they predicted a dismal season from the Bucs in 2013, so much so Joe said if what they predicted actually happened, then there would be a regime change at One Buc Palace.

Walter Football was right, and so was Joe.

After reading this 2015 mock draft, mock drafts have, now, jumped the shark.

Joe…..I have much more interest in the Mock Draft for 2016 & 2017 than 2015….I’m sure you can find someone who has prepared one.

  2. BOBBY C Says:

There would be no way that the JAGS would pass on Jamesis, Would love to see this happen for Our Super Buccaneers, So if he does come out, which i think in the long run is what will happen, the bucs would need the number one outright.

  3. BOBBY C Says:

Joe does your super mock tell us who the jags would take at one?

  4. The_Buc_Realist Says:

The Bucs finished #2 overall in the draft! They must of factored the Lovie and Licht kept the current O-line and D-line to “see what they can do” . Like many here have suggested!

  5. BucfaninMi Says:

    Not this dude.no way.

  6. Snook Says:

    Jump the shark!

    Bababooey!

  7. Meh Says:

Mocks are explorations of possibilities. I find them enjoyable, and a way to check out players I may not have watched as much. I love late round mocks in particular.

  8. Macabee Says:

Who this mock projects as the QB taken by the Bucs next year pales in significance to the implication that no matter what the Bucs do this year, in 2015, they are still going to need to draft a QB!

  9. Espo Says:

I mock we will have the 32nd pick in the draft every year from here forth!

  10. Psychic_Maya Says:

Yes & Dungy will be our new coach in 2015….

  11. Pewter_Power Says:

Most people just do mock drafts because they are football starved during the offseason and the draft is the only football related thing they have to cling to.

  12. That Guy Says:

Wait, I thought you guys disliked when people describe this type of thing as internet trolling?

  13. Bucfan#37 Says:

I would bet my life the Bucs don’t finish with such a lousy record or take Winston. You sure this mock was’nt made by the ghost of long gone Walter Brennan?

  14. BucsQcCity Says:

This is ridiculous. With all the possibilities that’s coming just with FA, I hope to read some good stuff this week: Orakpo, Byrd, Jackson, Dansby, etc..

Plus the Manziel drama should be in effect since Raiders now likes Carr over Manziel. If Houston doesn’t select a QB in first round, there’s a real possibility that Manziel will be there at 7…

Hope FA will bring new blood to both side of our lines. This would ease the draft process.

Joe – – – I read a lot of what YOU write. Cannot take time to read ALL the comments but I am one of the biggest critics of TOO MANY MOCK DRAFTS and way too much analysis overall. If somebody is writing a story in February of 2014 about a 2015 mock draft, THEY are wasting their time, and the only thing worse is and of us wasting OUR time reading it!!

I know I am in the minority here, but if I did not read one more article on who the Bucs MIGHT take I can live with that and just wait and see in May how the draft unfolds.

New uniforms out and I don’t know what to think.

My 2015 mock draft….with the 32nd pick Tampa bay selects….

  18. Patrick in VA Says:

In other news, the new uniforms that the bucs just sent a link out to is way different. Would’ve preferred they stick with what we had. Of all the changes that needed to happen on the team, the uniforms were not where we needed to start

  19. Chris Says:

Winston won’t even declare next year. He’s got to prove last year wasn’t a fluke without some of his wrs and rbs and adjust to defenses with a full year of film.

  20. K_bassuka Says:

C’mon Joe do a little research. Walterfootball.com always does a good job with mocks, I would say even better than Mayock (not saying that they are better evaluators than him) heck they even mocked Clayborn, McCoy, and even Talib (not 100% sure about Talib) way in advance. The way they do the following year draft (in this case 2015) is by selecting teams that didn’t make the playoffs this year at random and creating a list from those and the rest it’s filled with another random list from teams that made the playoffs. The only reason why they started making those was because the public asked for them, and people seem to be attracted to it.

  21. Joe Says:

If somebody is writing a story in February of 2014 about a 2015 mock draft, THEY are wasting their time, and the only thing worse is and of us wasting OUR time reading it!!

    There you go.

  22. thegregwitul Says:

Ridiculous, just ridiculous. I have faith the team will be much improved in 2014, but even if the Bucs stumble, I don’t see Winston going pro in 2015, especially since he also dabbles in baseball. I think he’ll come out in 2016 and will be a top three pick. Hopefully at that point the Bucs have their franchise QB in place and are a playoff contender.

  23. Left_Coast_Bucs_Fan Says:

Hey Joe, isn’t that plagiarism or something like that? I predicted weeks ago that Houston, Cleveland, Jacksonville and Oakland would all take QBs in the ’14 draft leaving Winston for the Bucs to take next year after Glennon proves he’s not the Bucs long-term franchise QB this coming season.

I will also go on record now to say Winston will NOT stay in college two more years but will come out after next season.

  24. SAMCRO Says:

Me thinks Buc1987 is moonlighting for Walterfootball

  25. Patrick Says:

No thanks, don’t want a rapist QB being the face of our franchise.

  26. Bucfan#37 Says:

    Agree with Patrick.

  27. Joe Dunn Says:

When asked if ever date raped anyone, Josh Freeman said “not that I remember”
