“More Disappointment” From Lovie

March 24th, 2014

A reporter reveals a possible steak scenario

Mike Williams is a victim, “but” …

That was the drum beat this morning from Bucs beat writer Rick Stroud on WDAE-AM 620. Stroud talked to Lovie Smith last night.

Few specifics were revealed about their chat, but Stroud said there was “more disappointment” from Lovie, in addition to concern for Williams’ welfare after he got stabbed in the thigh at his Tampa home yesterday. Police are searching for Williams’ brother, the alleged attacker.

Like Joe and most observers, Stroud was very suspicious of the police report of roughhousing leading to the stabbing. “Unless Mike grabbed him from behind while the guy was eating a steak,” Stroud said, friendly kitchen horseplay with a knife between siblings is a tough thing to imagine.

Joe agrees.

You can hear Stroud’s full audio below.

  1. Dooley Says:

Does Mike Willians know he’s dealing with a Lovie Smith whose had to deal with that whole Sam Hurd situation I’m pretty sure our HCs tolerance for this type of nonsense is lower than 0%. I like Williams as a player and hope he can clean up his act before getting bounced off this roster, but he’s testing Lovie & Licht with these unsavory reports.

  2. Buc1987 Says:

Calling all wide receivers, calling all wide receivers. Come in Watkins. Are you there? Come in Watkins.

  3. SteveK (MGM) Says:

We need to trade Mike Williams ASAP.

    He gone!

  4. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

Never would have guessed something bad happening…..

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We don’t know all the facts but unfortunately for MW19 he is a product of his reputation and even though he is a victim he is somewhat responsible. He has been behaving with a lack of maturity needed….
He makes millions of dollars…not just for his performance on the field but for his role as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer in the community and NFL. He needs to get his act together….and quickly.

  6. Architek Says:

Yeah he does need to get his act together on another team.

  7. williethewonder Says:

No way he gets traded. Other teams will know that if the Bucs shop him, he will likely be released like Revis and Penn were, so nobody will give up a pick to get him – if they want him, they’ll just wait.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Sammy @ 7

  9. williethewonder Says:

Give up the Watkins fantasy. He doesn’t make it past 4 or 5, and it’d be foolish to trade up when there’s so many quality receivers in this draft.

  10. Jeagan1999 Says:

Anybody got Desean Jackson’s phone number?

  11. tmaxcon Says:

the more information that comes out the more he is not a victim but a dumbARSE…. put yourself in bad situations and bad things happen. that’s not a victim that is pure stupidity.

  12. tmaxcon Says:

i agree watkins will not make it past 4… plenty of WR in this draft. still need a qb who can get the WR the ball though. you can have jerry rice in his prime on the roster but with a journeyman with 8 to 10 good games and a 2nd year qb that can’t get out of his own way and failed down the stretch it does not matter who is at wr.

  13. lightningbuc Says:

Mike Williams has taken “community involvement” to a whole new level this offseason.

  14. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

Is this just extreme viral marketing for the Cave Man Gang? Is the wanted poster for Captain Caveman?

  15. tampamac Says:

Even with all the distractions, I have a feeling MW won’t be going anywhere until the end of the 2015 season simply because of his cap number and the dead money he’d cost if released or traded prior to then.

Year Base Misc. Cap Hit Dead Money

    2014 -1,200,000 – 600,000 – 1,800,000 – 6,400,000
    2015 -5,200,000 – 1,600,000 – 6,800,000 – 5,200,000
    2016 -5,600,000 – 1,600,000 – 7,200,000 –
    2017 -5,900,000 – 1,600,000 – 7,500,000 –
    2018 -4,150,000 – 4,600,000 – 8,750,000 –

  16. tmaxcon Says:

    joe,

i know you have stated you are not a cap guy that being said. Is there any information floating around if the bucs can recoup some money. I understand the june 1 designation would help this year but next you would be a significant hit. I am a selfish bucs fan and could care less what happens to williams at this point. He clearly does not give a crap about his own career by his actions and the people he surrounds himself with so why should fans give a crap about him personally.

  17. coolman Says:

Let’s trade for jackson take cap hit on williams

  18. tampamac Says:

Sorry my chart came out screwy.. It looked better than that when I submitted it.

  19. brandonbucfan Says:

And the hits just keep on coming! THE BUCS could eat the MW cap hit. But even if DJAX is released the BUCS would probably have a tough time winning a $$ battle with all we have spent right now. We might as well realize that SOMEWHERE in 2014 we are going to come up short…OL or WR.

  20. Jktampa Says:

Not a bit surprised that this happened. Yet another mess made by Dominic that needs to be cleaned up. Maybe they can trade him to the patriots. That seems to be the landing spot for any Bucs with “issues”.

  21. tmaxcon Says:

    willimas has ZERO trade value

  22. Joe Dunn Says:

I agree with the smart people here – – trade??

    Yeah, right.

We would do better trying to unload K A R L Williams.

  23. mark2001 Says:

Tampa Mac…I understood 1.8 mil. if June 1 cut and about 5 mil to 6 for next year…and that was about it. Where did you get your numbers?

  24. mark2001 Says:

And Mac…heard the salary cap was rising in 2015, so it should be doable. Think it was on PR.

  25. tampamac Says:

    mark2001,

    http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/tampa-bay-buccaneers/mike-williams/

It doesn’t have info on pre/post June 1st designations though. Just straight contract and cap figures.

  26. tmaxcon Says:

    tampamac

thanks for posting the numbers. hopefully there is a clause in his contract to recoup some of the dead money or reduce guarantees. from what I understand the clauses are “Morale” clauses not necessarily tied to arrests but anything negative to the shield can be used to recoup.

  27. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Oay, let me get this straight. You guys want Williams gone because he scratched some paint on a door, did 43,000 worth of work on his house, raps and was stabbed by a relative in his own home?

You guys are idiots thru and thru.

  28. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

The guy sounds like the consummate professional. I’m sure every instance was a misunderstanding, and nothing else bad will occur in his future.

    Clear skies ahead, guys!

  29. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

And, btw, Desean Jackson gets in MORE trouble. And we already need another WR in a starting role. You guys want to have to fill two starting spots???

Tell the truth. You guys are hating on Williams because you want the Bucs to draft Watkins (not going to happen even if he is there at 7).

  30. tampamac Says:

    tmaxcon,

No prob! Not sure about any clauses though.

  31. tmaxcon Says:

Bonzi when has jackson got in trouble. asking for a deal year in and year out is not trouble might be annoying and an ARSE move but when has he been arrested or has had MULTIPLE 911 calls. being a headcase is different than being in trouble.

  32. Westsidebucsfan Says:

I guess I would be considered the idiot who is connecting the dots between all of these incidents that has happened (stabbing, house fire, being brought up on charges, property damage, cops called to his house 4-5 times since June) and saying to drop him. I bet they were not “horse playing” and the truth will come out soon enough. It’s time to start holding people accountable for their actions. Stop making excuses for this kid already

  33. Chrisfresh23 Says:

Get rid of him and get us a legit home run threat as our #2 receiver.. I know it couldn’t hurt us too much to make a push for D-jax or even upgrade during the draft… Do whatever but please stop relying on mike, he seems to have too much going on and doesn’t seem to be too dedicated to perfect his skills but rather party his rear end off.. Lol

“MW19 is a product of his reputation and even though he is a victim he is somewhat responsible. He has been behaving with a lack of maturity needed”

Why is he responsible for getting stabbed?

  35. Joe Says:

Why is he responsible for getting stabbed?

Exactly. Next thing you know, the Bucs will be cutting guys after someone blows a red light and T-bones a player.

He shouldn’t have been in the intersection! He’s a bum!

Mike join one of those internet dating sites of your choice and find yourself your soulmate and settle down and start maturing into a responsible adult. Talib turned over a new leaf and is doing well for his NFL career and you can too. Listen to Lovie and start earning the fortune the Bucs are paying you, or you are going to be a cut has been! Tell your brother to talk to you on the phone only and you will see him just on major holidays with family. Tell your Cave Boys to find another immature meal ticket, they are dragging down your image. Rent another home suitable for raising a family.
