Revis Reviving His Island

September 8th, 2013

It’s hard for any Bucs fan to not think the sky is falling tonight, after the Bucs delivered one of the ugliest losses in team history — to the hands of the sorry New York Jets and rookie QB Geno Smith.

However, all is not lost. Don’t head for the Skyway yet.

Darrelle Revis made his long awaited return and he played quite a bit, about two-thirds of the of the Bucs’ snaps on defense. He looked good. He broke up passes. The Jets tested him early and often, and Revis was up to the task. He’ll get better, stronger and more confident.

Revis, of course, will be a lot busier against the Saints next Sunday, when the Bucs will have to generate more pass rush.

There’s no way the Bucs can get away with blitzing Drew Brees like they did Smith today. But if Revis can revive his proverbial island, and Dashon Goldson and Darrelle Revis can continue to hit and intimidate, Joe’s confident the Bucs’ defense will be alright this season. It’s the offense Joe’s most worried about.

@ Joe, the offense did not cost us the game, the defense did just like last year …FACT ! The offense will get it together as will the defense, we will get better and better and go on a nice win streak….I am telling you we will .

  2. Raphael Says:

I was impressed with Revis and Dashon ! Wow that guy can hit…how much in fines do you think Dashon got today ?

Please….Brees is going to have a field day

I would like to see the offense stop strategizing so much and just and go non stop. We need more deep throws and more discipline. I am thoroughly disappointed we could not be the fn jets. Watching and reliving David’s last play makes me cringe in all parts of my body. I sure hope something changes by the bye week.

Yeah we could easily go 0-3 I’m upset at the Play Calling by Sullivan. Crappy Crappy Job. Much work to be done by next Sunday.

I’ll be stunned if they get to the bye at 2-2. Offense doesn’t look like it can score more than 21 points a game.

If you say it enough Raph you may eventually begin to believe it.

  8. Theodore Says:

You are exactly right, Joe. The Buc defense is much improved. New Orleans is in for a shock next week.

  9. Chef Paul Says:

The defense has improved and will continue to improve, but at the end of the day, today, they still made the opposing QB look like an all star. Just like they did all of last year. What’s going to happen the next 2 weeks when we really are playing against all stars?

Did it ever occur to anyone that Geno Smith played a helluva game for a rookie?? Our penalties made him look better than he was but he did not play bad. I wish they would turn Freeman loose to run like that. It makes a difference when the legs of the QB are a threat too.

Yes , the defense was much improved. 5 sacks today was a good start. If we eliminated the penalties we win easily. I saw a lot of good but we definitely need work on offense. O-line was really bad. Freeman erratic. Dropped balls. No holes for Martin. Still, we did enough to win and just gave it away at the end.

  11. Philip Says:

If the bucs go 0-3 will freeman be sat in favor of Glennon? I am all for Freeman if he can prove himself, but he cant be given an extension of any value if we have another losing season. Might as well just start developing Glennon if the season starts 0-3.
Also if the Glazers better buy out next weeks game if it hasnt reached the 85 percent mark by thursday. The fans deserve that after being embarrassed like this.

  12. Luther Says:

Revis was everything I could hope for and more. Once he gets his legs under him, I expect the defense to be even better. One thing for sure, it was nice to have an enforcer in the secondary again as well. If you plan to go across the middle, make sure you wear your big boy pants.

5 year’s ago that would have been a great day for Goldson. But in today’s football those stupid penalty’s he took. Were as much a part of this loss as David’s. I mean c’mon what was he the forth guy in on that play. 3rd down to boot. Aside from V-jax the offence was pitiful.

Anyone else feel that feeling since lynch left? I’m excited to see our safeties letting loose
