Don’t Worry About Barber’s Streak

March 26th, 2012

Yeah, Joe sees the story by Bucs beat writer Rick Stroud that claims Ronde Barber will have to fight for a starting job. Joe’s believing that about as much as he believes Rachel Watson will knock on his door at the stroke of midnight begging Joe to pudding wrestle her.

Stroud, of TampaBay.com, talked to Greg Schiano and claims Barber will have to earn a starting nod.

In the end, Barber got what he wanted — a chance to compete as a starter.

“I see it like every other position,” Schiano said. “That’s the great thing about competition. Let it play out the way it does through performance. The best man wins. That’s the way I like it.”

Joe’s quite confident Barber, the NFL’s reigning ironman with 199 consecutive starts, is not going to have to prove himself by impressing in OTAs and making splash plays in preseason. That’s absurd. Joe can’t imagine Schiano would bench the Bucs icon under any circumstances.

Barber will own his rightful spot in the starting lineup on opening day, and that will be his to lose. How much Barber plays is another story. Hopefully, he’ll be rotating with Aqib Talib, Eric Wright and Morris Claiborne.

How about Eric Wright, Asante Samuel, Ronde Baber, and Brandon Boykin?

  2. Capt.Tim Says:

    Rotating with Aqib??
Damn, there aren’t any prisons close enough to the RJ for that to happen, are there?
Would that be considered ” work release “for Talib?

If so – I’m all for it!! Finally Talib can focus on Football, and not act like an Ass!

I don’t think Ronde has any worries! He lost a step, doesn’t react quite as fast- and was still twice as good as any other pathetic CB we threw out there!

Ronde will start, and have time to mentor Mo Claiborne and Al Dennard!

If we get anything outta Wright( ugh!), then that’s yer Four!

The rest can move on to productive lives, or some( ahem) may choose to be the best inmate they can be!

Either way- Cornerback would be looking good!

    Next year- LBers and safeties!

  3. Fear The Glow Says:

After Sapp, Lynch, and Brooks it’s really nice to be able to see Ronde given the chance to go out on his terms. I would hope Schiano would pencil him in as the starter from the get go.

  4. ATLBuc Says:

Sounding more and more like Cleveland will go for Mo. Hope it’s not true.

Lol The image of Rachel and you rollin in puddin is hilarious. Much like our secondary.

  6. thibs5599 Says:

It sounds more and more that Cleveland is going after Blackmon not Mo. They said they went after multiple WR in free agency and missed out on them all, and they are stuck with Colt McCoy at QB. I think Blackmon is going to be the pick for them, or possibly Richardson. Hoping for Richardson because that would pretty much lock us into Claiborne as long he is there.

  7. thibs5599 Says:

Barber is most likely a nickle back at best at this point in his career, however he does deserve to begin the game as a starter, he has earned that right.

  8. GonnaGetcha Says:

Terrific Rachel Watson reference, you dirty dog.

“Blue, you’re my boy!” comes to mind from ‘Old School’.

  9. GonnaGetcha Says:

Nobody better then Barber to not start.

Sorry, in a defense on zero experience, we could use a Barber and a London Fletcher like that to get these youngsters in charge.

  10. jvato24 Says:

Anyone that believes any inside info about teams and there draft plans must be new to football. Dont sweat what the media says. Teams know what they want the public to know.

Give it a week, The Bucs will be targeting Tannehill

  11. J 2.0 Says:

Cleveland may be posturing to see if we trade picks with them.

To all: if you were Rock Star, would you trade your 2nd rd pick to move up and draft Claiborne?

  12. J 2.0 Says:

Also it isn’t out of the realm for Minnesota and Cleveland to want to draft Claiborne. For all of those who say T Rich is far beyond the other RB’s in the draft, well I think Claiborne has an even bigger gap between him and the other CB’s in the draft.

  13. Stevek Says:

Schiano needs a stallion to go with our clydesdale.

Rent Trent for 6 years, he is going to be a special running back.

I want to win, he is a winner. I want another Super Bowl.

  14. Cmurda Says:

@ 2.0 – NO. CLE is not taking MO. They just drafted a corner that is working out and corner is lower on their list of needs. I take MO and if worst case scenario and he is picked, I go Trent or preferably trade down.

  15. tonytwocents Says:

Nice picture of Barber, Joe. It just shows that scrapper in him – the scrapness. He’s like that 17 year old mutt thats still kickin and can still bite your face off. Lets hope he bites off many faces this season.

(That picture of Rachel is just rediculous)

  16. Lion Says:

BROWNS WILL NOT DRAFT CLAIBORNE!!!! They will be looking at offense no matter what people say, Brown’s will draft either Richardson, Blackmon, or maybe even Tannehill. If you think otherwise then you obviously don’t know much about the NFL.

  17. 941-Bucs Says:

No, I would definitely NOT move UP for any player on this board. If i were the GM i would either take BPA or move down to garner more picks and fill more holes.

  18. 941-Bucs Says:

let me be specific. I was referring to the first round trade.

Someone wrote that they might look at him at safety.
