Dotson Has “Catapulted”

May 22nd, 2013

Bucs offensive line coach Bob Bostad offered some rare public commenary

It’s darn rare to hear from — and see — Bucs offensive line coach Bob Bostad, who put in a heroic effort last season as the Bucs’ O-line did its share of circus juggling but still had a dominant running back and strong pass protection.

Buccaneers.com video captured Bostad yesterday chatting about his unit. (Click the link to watch.)

Interestingly, Bostad offered heavy praise of Demar Dotson, saying the Bucs’ right tackle has “catapulted” off his work last season.

This is encouraging, considering Dotson was the weak link on the line and the Bucs have yet to put solid competition alongside him.

Jeremy Zuttah and Donald Penn also received Bostad’s love in the video.

    When I chat about my unit at work, I get reprimanded by HR.

    What I think is interesting, is that the NFC South had 3 DE’s that posted 10 or more sacks last season: John Abraham, Charles Johnson, and Greg Hardy… the Bucs played these DE’s 2X a piece… and between those 3 guys, the combined for .5 sacks. Dotson must be doing something right.

    Is Cark Nicks expected to fully recovered by training camp?

    I would credit few position coaches in the NFL more than Bostad, so this is good news indeed. The brass must have anticpated this improvement as they made no move to bolster the RT spot in free agency or the draft.
    I do still tend to be of the opinion that D.D. may be better in a zone scheme, rather than man, in the run game.

    Davin Joseph or Zuttah would be the weakest links this season imo. Joseph has been bad since 09, its unbelievable how overrated that guy is and how delusional some of our fans are.

    @Illuminati LMAO.
    Dotson is just now at an experience level most RT’s have coming out of collage. Hopefully he has it in him to be a pro bowler in a few years time.

    Dotson was the weak link in the line? Not Meredith or Larsen? Specifically Larsen comes to mind as he was yanked after 4 games and had to be reinserted upon Nick’s injury.

    Unless the protection was slid over to the right side with either tight ends or backs chipping more than on the left he seemed to hold his own in the face of pass rushers. The run game is his weakness, but 6’9″ tackles have a hard time with leverage, especially when they are slight in build like Demar.

    This news isn’t surprising at all. I said it before, Dotson isn’t a lost case as some may say. He is a young player that hasn’t had a lot of football experience, getting a late start in college and all. This kid has potential to be a solid starter and he is still learning the position and game. I would not be surprised if he were to continue making large improvements in his game this season. People forget that not every player comes in the NFL completely polished, Dot is a developing player and will get better over time.

    Penn,a healthy Joseph, Zuttah, a healthy Nicks, and a Much improved Dotson, oh yeah with Crabtree on the field also.. If all those guys and Martin can stay healthy this year, I can easily see us having a top 5 rushing offense

    Still need depth

    Jonny 2.3 you’re and idiot!! Enough said

  12. RustyRhino Says:

    One of our best coaches imo .

    @Johnny 2.3

    So you’re saying that Davin Joseph isn’t a pro bowl guard? He was invited to the pro bowl because of his charity work? Yea, that must be it! Lmao…clown.
