Freeman Portrayed Michael Jackson In December

February 5th, 2013

Joe knows every Buccaneer has a right to personal time, especially on his day off, but what Josh Freeman did on Tuesday, Dec. 4, doesn’t smell good to Joe.

As part of a new BSPN The Magazine feature on athletes playing runway models and re-creating classic album covers, Josh Freeman, in the midst of his 2012 freefall, posed for the photo below on that day, per BSPN.

Joe gets that this was done in the name of art and publicity, but do Bucs fans and the New Schiano Order really want the face of the franchise out there honoring controversial Michael Jackson like this during a playoff chase?

Look at him… Staring down another receiver.

  5. Bobby Says:

He was trying to point to his junk but he was off target on that too…….

  6. Buc Fan South Tampa Says:

I think Michael Jackson would be embarrassed to have Josh Freeman mock him. But, Michael Jackson was not controversial – he was just another California Freak Show who wrote / sang good music and won multiple Grammys.

  7. Rob Says:

Gosh. That is our franchise? Priceless

  8. MadMax Says:

Beat it Thrilla, just beat it. Thats my new nickname for him now.

  9. Have A Nice Day Says:

HAHA! That is funny as heck. I love it. Glad to see some people still have their sense of humor these days.

It’s funny and no harm done. He puts in his work in practice HARD lots of fans bash him for things they can’t do like play in the NFL. Freeman has work to do and I believe he will be his best. Will that be good enough to stay in tampa? We shall see Go BUCS

  12. ShutTheBucUp Says:

At least he’s ranked #2 in SOMETHING

  13. Joe D. Says:

    “Raheem is not my lover…”

  14. ShayneGoodfellow Says:

Freeman will have a great season next year, mark my words..

  15. PRBucFan Says:

    lol…

Yours and many others words have been marked. Believe that jajaja

  16. Andrew 2 Says:

It was his personal time, hes free to do what he chooses as long as it doesn’t jeopardize him or the team. It didn’t. Everybody should be fine with this.

  17. Tye Says:

Maybe if he keeps trying different things he will some day find SOMETHING his good at… As for Freeman Portraying Michael Jackson, Yet Another FAILURE!

  18. OAR Says:

    PRbucfan

    lol…

Now, I can’t be the only one that thinks that looks like someone drowning?

  19. Big Marlon B Says:

at least it’s a tiger cub on his knee and not a 10 year old boy

  20. PRBucFan Says:

lol… <—- Someone is drowning lol

  21. FloridaGirl Says:

LOL, I thought he was straight……….MJ’s ‘Thriller’ needs to be the soundtrack played a RJS whenever Free throws for a TD…

  22. Bucfan4life7 Says:

You guys are too much. You are taking shots at him and it isn’t even football and you can’t wait to insult him. Josh Freeman is the best QB this franchise has ever had and I expect him to take an even bigger jump next year especially if we can get a good TE (Hopefully Tyler Eifert) and a pass defense that doesn’t make every QB look like a future Hall of Famer.

  23. 4everBucsFan Says:

As far as Freeman’s PR team goes, this is not what you want his detractors to see. It’s a kin to throwing blood in the water to a bunch of sharks, or throwing meat into a bunch of hungry savages. The only stories or photo shoots of Josh should be about him preparing for his last audition. I know the photo shoot was in the beginning of December, coupled with talk about contract extensions were all factors that coincided with Josh’s collapse. No more distractions, cause this is it. No more get out of jail cards, disappoint again and you become a casualty, Focus, take command of your destiny, win baby win, and you’ll be a wealthy, wealthy, man. Then after all that LOVE comes back to you, we’ll lose you to free agency cause we can’t afford you. LMAO

  24. Brad Says:

Wow .. Media, and Joe u are on the top, and people are just ridiculous!! Who cares what he did and I’m sure it was approved by the team. As far as posing as Jackson I’m guessing it wasn’t his idea. Instead of fabricating crap Joe why not report on real news. Unreal!!!

[Suggesting Joe makes things up, or in your word, “fabricating” information, is a high crime against Joe. You’ve pushed the envelope enough Brad making false allegations about Joe in the past. This went over the line. Joe didn’t doctor this photo. There is zero in this post that is false. — Joe]

  25. Mr. Patrick Says:

Oh now come on guys, who wouldn’t absolutely jump at the chance to pay tribute to a drug abusing freak show who was also a pedofile? Geez!

  26. Capt. Tim Says:

Lmao! Funny! He actually looks a lot like Michael.
It’s only a big deal to people who take themselves and football Waaaay to serious!
To Freeman, football is a job. A high tension, high profile job

To overweight, middle aged men- it’s the most important thing in the world! That’s because it gives their drone like life some sense that they are competing for something. In actuality, still just watching the competitors.

Relax, it was funny, and an uncanny resemblance!

Anyone who thought we were ” in the middle of a playoff hunt!”, with our secondary, is more popstar than prognosticator!

  27. teacherman777 Says:

    Wow.

You guys sound like Ravens fans calling for Flacco to go!

    Now look.

Josh Freeman is FRANCHISE QB. Period. He is 24. He works hard, is openminded, and has led us to many 4th quarter comebacks already. He has one of the best arms in the NFL and he never misses a game. 1 in 4 years. He will have 30 TD 10 int year next year. Just watch.

    I wonder.

If all the toxic haters on this page would be happier to see the Bucs make the playoffs next year, or happier to see Josh have a bad year?

Im guessing you guys are the kind who love to see people fail.

“We need to stop judging each other, and start helping each other. People are too critical.”- Ed Reed after the Super Bowl

  28. Jamie Says:

This is hilarious. What about it is “honoring” Michael Jackson? Just another example of your humorless, scandal-seeking writing, Joe.

    I smell off-season desperation.

@Jamie – Paying tribute, portraying, honoring, all the same. BSPN is honoring classic album covers and they asked Freeman to join them. Joe’s not the one posing. Freeman chose to do this knowing it would attract massive attention. If anyone is seeking “scandal,” to use your word, it’s Freeman.

  29. Jimmy Says:

Yeah, way cool for a quarterback who can’t hit the broad side of a barn to take time off while he is struggling to pose as a pedophile who turned his back on the hood and tried to physical change himself to whitey.

Nothing wrong with that. Every American kid should grow up to have these Norman Rockwell ideals.

  30. Keith Says:

Freeman begs for freak show attention with this “photo shoot” and some of you clowns try to turn it against Joe. Amazing.

  31. rickster Says:

This ladies and gentlemen is our qb.
    Scary isn’t it?
This picture is sure to put fear in the hearts of all the defenses of the NFC south, and all defenses that we come across! !

  32. Free's a Boob Says:

If only The Moron had Michael Jackson’s footwork

  33. bucbucbuc Says:

It’s a picture. We’re talking about a picture. The Freeman bashing is getting ridiculous on this site, seems like the guy can’t do anything without people jumping all over it. “Controversial” Michael Jackson? I hardly believe posing as a famous musical artist for a light-hearted magazine article should qualify as another reason to slam Freeman. Get a grip people

  34. Red86 Says:

For a guy that set many of the franchise records and thrown the same percentage as Dan Marino. I didn’t think he would do something like this. It’s refreshing to see this side of humor from him. He seem like the type to take thing serious at all time. Freeman is an adult. He don’t need anyone permission on how he spend his off season in Jan or Feb nor his life. Free has a life beside football.

  35. Rrsrq Says:

At least he is not jamming his finger by firing a gun. Just having fun, lets get over it, it’s only a story because we didn’t make the playoffs. Look at Gronk, dancing and falling all over himself with a broken arm. Besides isn’t Schiano the joe Jackson of the nfl.

  36. Rrsrq Says:

Plus he will be able to keep his toes on the line now

  37. bucfanjeff Says:

We’re critical of him doing something fun on his own time with a bunch of other athletes?

Joe has stooped to a new low.

@bucfanjeff – Joe stands behinds his criticism. And what, athletes are off limits on their own time? That’s BS. Freeman is begging with this photo for reaction, positive and negative. … Joe’s not alone. See McFarland above, and remember Derrick Brooks was critical of Freeman’s decision-making when he had the gun-range accident. Mark Dominik even had a talk with Freeman after that. When you’re the face of the franchise, your off the field is in the spotlight.

  38. Dan Says:

    @BUCFANSOUTHTAMPA
… michael jackson was not controversial?!!!!?!!?

really. REALLY now. Please obtain a dictionary and the knowhow to use it.

    more than once.
    spouting off about the illuminatti.

  39. 4everBucsFan Says:

    @Red86

Except this year, he needs to focus. Time to be a pro and not act like tinkerbell. Get us to the post season or have more time to play house when you get cut from the team. Man, I hate to be rude, but this is it. …shiit or get off the pot.. I don’t know how much clearer it can be.

  40. Jimmy Says:

Hey Joe, which jock posed as Mark Chmura?

  41. rickster Says:

Although, Joe namith did wear pantyhose??
How did the People respond to that?

  42. 911bucs Says:

    What an embarrassment

  43. Red86 Says:

Let me ask you a question. Does most if not all his teammate says he’s the hardest working player on the team? After all he voluntarily started multiple pre camp and OTA workout since his first offseason. I don’t doubt that he’s going to take things seriously when the time comes. It’s call a vacation when the season is over. I’m sure he has a set time he’ll start working out. In the mean time heal up and have fun is the activity of all NFL Players now. If anybody deserve this much scrutiny it the defense that haven’t rank higher than 16th overall since 2009.

  44. Red86 Says:

    @Joe:
Do you have inside info who was contacted first for this shoot? If I have to take a wild guess it’s ESPN contact Free first. I see nothing wrong with this. If anything can come from this, then get national attention for a team that ranked 28th in popularity.

  45. PRBucFan Says:

It seems to point to maybe Josh allowing his head to get a little to big in the midst of the success he was having this season however short it may have lasted.

    To those crying,

Look the Joes have always reported all things Bucs and if this isn’t Bucs related I don’t know what is. Just because your boi decides to pose as one of the most controversial yet legendary musicians/characters in history and you don’t like it doesn’t mean it’s off limits. He ultimately decided to do it, unless your proposing his hand was being held or needs it to be held and it wasn’t his decision? He seems the rather innocent lamb to most of you afterall.

Look to me it was funny and not a huge deal. Albeit I don’t think his timing was great and that does cause concern, he has much more to be concerned with starting with HIS play at the QB position, no, no Rondes’s play at the QB position or Gerald’s or LJ’s or EJ’s or Mason’s or LD’s or VJ’s or Dougies.

Yes we need a better defensive effort but I am talking solely the QB position here, what HE’S responsible for. Just like I won’t blame Free for the horrific the secondary play of this past season, I won’t blame the D for “Bad Josh” when he rears his ugly head. We saw on display this year in the play-offs that ultimately the fate of the team lies on the choices and outcomes of what the QB does with the ball. We saw the importance of the QB position.

I want Freeman to be our quarterback of the future, I really do whether anyone believes it or not, that’s not my problem. I am sick of the mediocrity we have had throughout our history at the position and I really really want to find stability and consistency at the position. I most definitely do not desire to have to start over with someone else. The problem for me is that right now I just don’t believe we are going to find that in Free, he’s given me hope at times, but that’s as far as it goes. I desperately hope he does prove me wrong, for our franchises sake. You see for me, no one player is beyond reproach because what I care about it the team as a whole. I’m not a players fan, I’m a Bucs fan.

You can continue to point elsewhere when Freeman throws a bad pass, or stares down a receiver, or crumples under pressure (real or not), or when his reads are off. All the while showering him with praise when he does get it right and discounting the rest if the team you blamed before. That’s fine, that’s your prerogative, thats your right. Just know that realistically speaking Freeman is not beyond reproach and time is running out, whether you believe it’s fair or not. It’s time for us to see where our future as an organization is heading as far as Freeman is concerned.

Honestly, whether you believe in him or not we are about to have that answer. Finally… we are about to have an answer after this next season with Freeman.
Either his is or he isn’t our future , and that won’t be able to be spun anymore.

For me, yes it would absolutely suck if he wasn’t but at the same time we can “finally” now move on in our search for that guy.

If Free does prove me wrong I honestly will be super stoked and at the same time I will eat my big fat plate of crow and admit my disbelief in him was wrong.

But at the same time, either way there is this sense of excitement in having been given our “finally”.

  46. MadMax Says:

Hey, not everyone is bashing him and attacking him. Ive been one if Josh “Thrilla”s biggest critics. But Im having fun with this, its all good, just long as when it comes time to ball out, he gets his mind right and balls out. Yes, the timing of it is quite curious. I wouldnt have done it if I was him…..but thats just me. I just want him to pull a Flacco this year.

  47. Brian B Says:

This proves his priorities are out of whack. I was on the fence as to if Freeman was going to be a very good quarterback, this pushed me over the line. This was the wrong move on so many levels it answers all questions for me. Time for Josh to move on.

  48. Blob Says:

ESPN: hey Josh you wanna help us with a photos shoot? Freeman: No I am not allowed to do anything fun or humorous on my free time.

  49. Bobby Says:

LOL! Brian B….what an idiot…… I don’t see how this can possibly be equated to his play on the field. It may not make you happy but to say it determines whether or not he will be a good QB next year is mind numbingly ignorant.

  50. SacBucs Says:

I never seen so many tight ass people…This shhh is funny! Gut busting..Freeway IS 6’6 DOING Michael Jackson Dance Moves. Lol lmao!

Let go of your IM BETTER THEN YOU complex know it alls.

  51. Dan Says:

i found the whole thing hilarious. i just had to correct the rediculousness of whoever above… not controversial pfft.

  52. teacherman777 Says:

    @sacbucs

    Right on bredda!
