“I’m Sure That Is Their No. 1 Priority”

March 29th, 2012

Joe choked on his Circle K Thirst Buster driving around listening to TampaBay.com Bucs beat writer Rick Stroud tell a radio audience that Team Glazer’s No. 1 priority is putting fans in the seats yesterday.

That’s beyond ludicrous.

First off, you don’t fire an iconic Super Bowl winning coach off a 9-7 season and hire Raheem Morris if you’re concerned about action at the box office.

You also don’t shun free agency, either, if ticket sales are the top priority. And when you do dive into free agency, as was done this year, you don’t spend a majority of your cash on a left guard (No slight on Carl Nicks, but Joe knows of no left guard that generates ticket sales, especially to casual NFL fans) and a cornerback that never made the Pro Bowl and isn’t a household name.

“I’m sure that is their No. 1 priority — to sell tickets,” Stroud told WQYK-AM 1010 host J.P. Peterson.

Clearly, and thankfully, Team Glazer is focused on winning, not ticket sales. Now whether Team Glazer has a sound plan to build a winner is open to serious debate and scrutiny. But Joe’s quite sure if Team Glazer’s No. 1 priority was ticket sales, the Bucs would look a lot a hell of a lot different, including having some guy named Tebow backing up Josh Freeman.

    Tebow > Orlovsky.

  2. Eric Says:

Tebow would have helped in the winning department also.

Glazers >> most of the owners…

Get ’em Joe! Puttin the smackdown on all the incredulous talking heads today!

  5. Jarret Says:

Tebow = distractions. Yes the Glazers did it for ticket sales. They also did it to win. Look around the league, the best teams always sell out.

    Glazer’s # 1 priority was European Futbol.

The Bucs are their ugly step sister compared to Manchester United.

Glad to see they are finally showing monetary interest in their NFL Franchise.

    No more games overseas.

Give a crap, spend that cap…. And they sure do this year 🙂

I wish season ticket holders would be refunded 50% of their money from last season, as the Glazers truly only gave about 1/2 a crap.

I would like to see Hawthorne added.

  8. Vince Says:

No. 1 priority? They didn’t even launch a ticket sales campaign after signing their free agents.

  9. Big Picture Guy Says:

It sure seems like only 1 Glazer pays attention to the Bucs anymore. Im not smart enough to know which one, but I’d be curious to know if he has been delegated the Bucs Czar within the family or something, while the others manage ManU and their shopping malls.

  10. Bobby Says:

The Glazers are smart enough to know that one thing sells tickets…WINNING.
They put a winning team on the field and people will pay to come see them.

Actually, Joe…that “iconic Super Bowl winning coach” started the blackouts because the fans were sick of him.

And one could easily argue that they want to win in order to drive up ticket sales.

Mind you…I’m 100% pro Glazers, but lets not pretend history was different.

    @Joe

Does the NFL regulate ticket prices, or are the Glazer in complete charge of them? What I mean is…when the Glazers lower ticket prices, do they need league approval?

    Just curious…no hidden agenda.

Bobby- I know you are a frequent flyer on ” Peter pan’s flight”, there in Fantasy land.

Buut, they haven’t exactly” provided a winner”
3-13, 4-12 two of last three years
Lowest payroll for last 7 years
Still have lowest paid coaching staff

I’m glad they decided to show a lil interest this year, but “providing a winner”, or “fans in the seats” was obviously not important at all to them, until this year.

LMAO, why didnt you put a Coach who had not won a playoff game since the Super Bowl, including 2 playoff losses that were So Horrible it reminded me of the 1999 season opener vs the Giants. A coach who rather sit on his behind than Coach (lets be real clear, if he had a TRUE Passion for coaching he would Coach for 2Mil rather than do NOTHING for 5 Mil, his ONLY Passion is Ego and Money which is why he could never win a big game after he gained Ego and Money).

I understand you are saying this was a Good move in firing him, as it will lead to wins. But my dislike for gruden is too great. And the fact he is willing to NOT coach for money is sickening and Proven his Passion was nothing more than a Smoke Screen.

Papawill13- lol! And the truth will set you free!
