“Clear-Cut Starter” Cody Grimm

August 2nd, 2011

Raheem Morris’ tone got serious when talking about his safeties yesterday.

Good serious.

Raheem didn’t even let a reporter finish asking a question about the chemistry and communication between Cody Grimm and Sean Jones before the head coach/secondary guru cut him off and called their teamwork “ridiculous.”

“I was really marveling over that in a walkthrough. Just watching those guys disguise and use different packages, and when Freeman checks they move to a different look,” Raheem said while shaking his head in admiration. “They have a great feel for the defense.”

Just another position where the Bucs should be a step better in 2011, assuming Grimm can hit 100 percent health in 5 1/2 weeks. Jones was new to the team last year and Grimm was wet behind the ears and dropped into the starting lineup thanks to Tanard Jackson’s urine.

Now these guys are building on real chemistry, and Raheem called Grimm a “clear-cut starter.”

Grimm’s an extraordinarily critical cog, if for no other reason than he nearly single-handedly kept the Bucs’ run defense from reaching historic marks for futility. They need him out there drilling his hat into holes. Hopefully, he’ll get a little more help with that this year.

Grimm is great but I hope Jackson comes back with a bladder full of clean pee.

  2. Matt Says:

The question is: If Tanard returns and is in shape, does he push Grimm out of the lineup? Or could Grimm move to SS?

  3. thomas 2.2 Says:

When does THC Jax have to provide urine again? I bet that he was smoking himself silly during the lockout. If they test him soon he will probably pee smoke.

  4. Freeman4President Says:

I like Tjax at free and Grimm at Strong, two hard hitters, and lets face it if Tjax can stay off the green he is neck and neck with Talib for most talented player in the secondary.

  5. Freeman4President Says:

Hey Tommy go back to your abstinence now straight edge ralley with the rest of the people no wants to party with…

  6. Jrock (mobile) Says:

Grimm said he is working off the soreness in his leg and it should be 100% within two weeks. We shall see

Joe: at the end of that press conference Raheem (hilariously) cut off another beat writer for “writing that i was a traitor to Ruud”. I couldn’t find the story he referenced, any help?

  7. leningan Says:

Just saw that DeAngelo Hall has been suspended 4 games by the league. Does this mean we’ll hear a ruling on Talib soon?

  8. SRQBucFan Says:

I think Grimm is a stud. He is one of few people on our secondary that really knows exactly how to tackle. he can do it solo and in the open field. I hope his style of tackling rubs off on some of his team mates. Everyone even agrees. Between that type of tackling and SWARMING to the ball. is what made the 2000 Bucs so dangerous and good on defense.

And i think if Tjax comes back he will be moved to FS, while Cody stays at SS. I think Tanard is a better FS because of his agility and ballhawk skills. He will cover deep routes while Grimm sneaks up to the line kind of like have a smaller LB right behind the LB corp.

  9. HIRE GREG OLSON! Says:

Uh, I think you mean Philip Buchanon.

And to those who think that there is a possibility of T-Jax returning to this team, you are crazy.

We didn’t sign a bunch of FA safeties last year and draft Ahmad Black for no reason.

  10. Dew Says:

Detroit’s #1 pick Nick Fairly out 4-6 weeks and will miss the opening game against us. Also, Phillip Buchanan suspended 4 games but unclear why?

  11. leningan Says:

oops! Buchanon it is. Question stands, does his suspension mean we will learn more about Talib sooner than later?

Has t jax even been reinstated into the league?

  12. HIRE GREG OLSON! Says:

Dew, where do you see 4-6 weeks??

    Nothing I see places a timeline…

  13. Eric Says:

    rediculous!

  14. Meh Says:

Really want Tanard back. Got nothing against these guys but Tanard is just in a different tier (if he can keep clean).

Detroit Lions have no luck.. Fairley has a stress fracture (Foot) could be a 4-6 week injury..

  16. Mauha Deeb Says:

Thomas, always the pessimist. You know how I know you aren’t a bucs fan? When the bucs lost those close games to the Falcons, Baltimore, Lions etc you say “Because those teams are clearly better”. When the Bucs beat the Saints you say “The Saints weren’t ever really trying”. To you they lose because they are loser but when they win, its only because teams let them. You laud their losses and downplay their wins. Your a scumbag troll. GTFO!

  17. McBuc Says:

Dew, I am sure your info is accurate, but should we trust a guys named “incarceratedbob”…Is he in prison or jail?

  18. Dave Says:

Would love to see them get 10-15 lbs of muscle added to Grimm, otherwise the name Bob Sanders comes to mind

  19. TpaBayFlyFisher Says:

Fly thinks it is a grim situation where we will rely on Grim………….this team is setting up to go 6-10. Oh BTW did anyone see that Man U turned a 100,000,000 pound profit? Yet the Bucs are millions under the new pay floor………….

  20. Dew Says:

@McBuc. LMAO. Great name huh? Whoever he is he has broken more sports news than anyone on Tweeter the last week. Maybe Joe can tell more about the Dude??

  21. Sheldon Says:

Incarcerated Bob is not a fully reliable source. He tweets every little rumor he hears and hopes it’s correct. He has been correct enough times that people follow him and take him seriously but it’s not a good idea to believe everything he says because he has also been wrong A LOT. Take it with a grain of salt.

  22. Dan Says:

its like a gatlin gun he shoots out rumors so often several of them hit but he probably has a 10 percent acuracy rating lol

  23. bucsalltheway Says:

I’d start Jackson and grimm that’s a tandem that can stop the run….

  24. BigMacAttack Says:

Yeah, I want Tanard back too. I hope he makes it back and gets straight…. or they legalize weed. Either way, I don’t care. I like him.

Hey, what’s incarcerated bob in for? bribing a congressman?
